This was 2007. Prince is nearing 50 years old. He’s dealing with hip pain issues. The years of splits and jumping on and off things are behind him.
He still dances and brings the X factor to his shows but in a different way. As you see in this performance he was still magic. A superb musician, singer, performer. A superstar 🎉

Prince by this time in his life had hip replacement surgery so by the 2000's it was very hard for Prince to dance like he did through the 80/90's. However this time was also imo some of his most creative albums. Funny enough even me as a massive Prince fan this super bowl performance is not one of my favorite personal performances. Although you can't deny it being legendary because it rained during Purple Rain & it hadn't rained in over 40 years at the super bowl. When you also add the spiritual meaning of Purple Rain it makes this not only the best super bowl performance of all time but also one of the most iconic & important Prince performances of all time. God was Prince's effects artist lol. Can't deny the power since over 140 Million viewers tuned in to watch Prince perform. Even though this isn't in my personal favorite. Prince shredding in the rain is undeniably Greatest of all Time list.

I didn’t know about that hip, thanks! And not having it having rained in 40 years is also insane if you think about it

Also: the entire performance in a TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. Prince before the performance: "Let it rain harder."

He survived hostile elements of Rick James fans AND Rolling Stones fans. Nothing could phase him anymore. He had been sharpened by tough crowds and let his music do his talking.

Prince was at least 2 hip surgeries in by the time we get to this point in his career; so you lose the jumping off of the piano bit, and you gain a more versatile guitar player, a more skilled lyricist, and a master of pacing a live show.

Prince was an absolute beast on guitar. He’s always underrated in that area. I’m not even a Prince fan and this performance blew me away. U just felt like you were watching greatness. It’s really due to his guitar skills.there was a lot of concern about the rain and they thought about dubbing in the performance. and producers were telling him to cut things and he told them to make it rain harder

You have to note that this is 20 years later than some of the more high-energy performances you've seen. Prince was almost 50-years-old here and still absolutely phenomenal. He went from "my d*ck and bubble gum is all you get" in 1981 to "this phallic silhouette is all you get" in 2007 (and kept his clothes on). Lol

Proud Mary (Tina Turner,) All Along The Watchtower (Jimmy Hendrix version,) and Is Someone Getting The Best of You (Foo Fighters!) He mashed them all and honored them! Check at about 11:13 minutes ... look at Prince's eyes.... EGADS. Tells it all! And, lol @Klown? Prince doesn't have to take off his clothes to be show-stopping! He through off his "doo-rag" that he'd worn to keep his hair up to HIS standards during the pouring rain and wind during his show until he got to his song "Purple Rain."

Pressure? To play music LIVE was his natural state. He was music.
Prince played not only his own music but a short history of music.
He started the show with 'We Will Rock You' by Queen
'Proud Mary', wrote by Credence Clearwater Revival' (wich Tina Turner made her own)
'All Along The Watch Tower' wrote by Bob Dylan, made even more famous by Jimmi Hendrix. But he chained this one with 'The Best' by Foo Fighters
And his hits "Let's Go Crazy", "Baby, I'm a Star" and "Purple Rain".

This is the first time it rained during a Super Bowl halftime show. It was pouring heavy rain.
As for the audience singing along to purple rain-they have been doing that since 1984.

You don’t understand, there is a thunderstorm ⛈ going on. Both the twins are wearing 9’ heels. Prince is wear 6 inch heels. The platform is soak’n wet and they are drenched. And he is using the rain to his advantage and making this a Iconic performance.👍🏿💯%

It was so dangerous for them to oerform with the rain but Prince didn’t care . The show must go on no matter what . It’s literally pouring rain!!! The dancers are in 5 inch heals dancing on the edge of the stage all of the cords and electricity was hella dangerous but they went for it

  • @SallyKinley-4prn
    @SallyKinley-4prn 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

Loved your reaction. Prince only had 2 dancers, one back up singer and 3 other band members on stage, so it wasn’t a massive production apart from the marching band, which was pretty spectacular! But they weren’t on stage.
Watched by 100,000 people in the stadium plus another 100 million worldwide! The first time in 40 years it rained at the Super Bowl! When Prince was told about the weather forecast, he said “Can you make it rain harder?”
It rained so hard, was windy and was very dangerous on a slippery stage (him and his dancers in high heels) , also very dangerous playing live guitars. Electricity and water, not a good mix! Apparently the 3 guitars he played, never played properly again. Also to play guitar solos with wet guitars, wet strings with wet hands? Prince was fearless! Also he was old school, and had the mentality that ‘the show must go on’. The man’s a legend!

“Proud Mary” Ike and Tina Turner

    • @cryptozoomauler5505

"Proud Mary" is a song by American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, written by vocalist and lead guitarist John Fogerty. It was released as a single in January 1969 by Fantasy Records and on the band's second studio album, Bayou Country. The song became a major hit in the United States, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1969, the first of five singles to peak at No. 2 for the group.
Later that year, R&B singer Solomon Burke released a rendition on Bell Records that reached No. 15 on the Billboard R&B chart.
Another version by R&B duo Ike & Tina Turner, released on Liberty Records in 1971, did nearly as well as the original on the charts, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No 5 on the Billboard R&B chart. They won a Grammy Award for their rendition in 1972.

Keep in mind this is older Prince with a hip replacement. Hey, fact of life that we all slow down. Still his was arguably the best halftime show in history.

The other version of this (more of a documentary, as well as his performance,) shows you the incredible challenges for this particular show. It had NEVER rained before, and the lightning and pouring rain you see are REAL lol. The stage was crazy slippery, rain pouring.. electric guitars, high heels, wind. Only Prince could do this. Truly. AND highlighting other musician's music and songs rather than just himself. Best EVER.

The lightening is not real. It was added after and it looks fake as fuck. It was, however, pouring rain.

Awesome reaction, post previous scandals, NFL took a risk with Prince, so he very much in control with out the need for OTT showmanship.
The song you were asking about was Proud Mary, a Clearance Clearwater Revial song , most famously covered by Tina Turner.
There's a little documentary about this show, I'll try to find a link, but you should react to it too.
Trust me when you hear what went down you'll have even more respect for Prince

@2eurocoin! Exactly! I sent it to Klown also along with this version. The producers, etc. freaking out.. lol. And you are spot on regarding Prince not needing scandals. He is brilliant simply being himself. I had the amazing luck to have seen Tina Turner perform this in about 1976 in Berkeley. It just occurred to me.. wow... it
was pouring that night too! Ike played the whole concert with his back to the audience. Tina went all out performing.. I'll never forget it. I was 16.

So excited to see you watch this. Prince did not feel pressure. Have you noticed that it's pouring rain? By this time in his career, he wasn't jumping around or getting naked that much anymore. He was in pain from doing all that stuff in his youth. That's what let him to his death by addiction to pain killers. The song you're wondering about is Proud Mary. You've probably heard the Tina Turner version. Check out this Prince song : th-cam.com/video/H9tEvfIsDyo/w-d-xo.html p.s. are you Dutch?

Before a Super Bowl performance the artist has to do a press Q&A the day before, sort of hypes the thing.
But Prince doesn't talk to the press too often.
His solution is agsin worth another reaction. Just a mini concert for the press.
