Good proof of concept, but that weather-exposed USB connection will corrode in no time.

for the most part, i'd say this is worth giving a shot. there are other videos on youtube that are very similar that are a little cleaner and technically correct.

This is useless, you're just picking up your neighbour's password protected networks

how about in an rv park?

@@austinb4254 i commented that a year ago, looking back i see that this video maybe isn't exactly fake, but it doesn't make that wifi card work any better than it would without all these stupid antennas, as its transmit power does not increase, therefore it won't communicate over a longer distance. Basically, adding all of these antennas did nothing and it's pointless.

@@kam_mil you speak as though you have an education on the topic and yet you state fiction as fact. maybe you're a little confused. but what you outlined...is not how antennas work. the purpose of the antenna will dictate the necessity for TRANSMIT power. was the individual in the video setting things up to transmit signal, do you think? if you have no intension of transmitting signal, then the transmit power... is obsolete (see the new Nighthawk AXE3000 which is an exceptional receiver, but TERRIBLE transmitter). transmit power and gain are completely different. gain can vary greatly based on the design of the antenna itself. and certain antennas are inherently better at broadcasting than receiving and vice versa. i will say that i believe having two coaxial lines with two antennas on the same RP-SMA connector might be counterintuitive, and he could have just threaded onto the connector, but it could be completely fine and not really make much of a difference and let me tell you why. each one of those piddly little monopole/dipole antennas he took off the router were probably 3-5 db gain. that dish adds like 15 db of gain at least. it catches the signal much better. so he went from 3-5 db to 18-20 db.
TRANSMIT power... is for broadcasting. so it depends on the way you're using the antenna. EVEN THEN... youre gain is still your gain. it's completely possible to get 24-26 db of gain on the 2.4 ghz and 5ghz frequencies from a parabolic dish with the right driver and fine tuning without needing to add ANY amplification. so he actually did do something to that wifi card... he added a fucking signal howitzer to it. as someone who knows a fuck load about antennas, the only thing that's sussy about this video to me is attaching 2 antennas to the same connector/feed for the card. but if there's one thing i know about RF its that until you try it, you really never know. so i give this video, for the most part, a passing grade.
finally, depending on where your ethics for right and wrong lie - maybe accessing his neighbors secure wifi was his plan all along? maybe the neighbors have given him a password? or maybe he's just a 1337 hacker.
for what it's worth, there's actually like 5 other videos of other people doing very very similar things to this on youtube, and they've all got it working. one of them is a pastor so. thanks for coming to my ted talk. hope you learned something.
