Oh and apologies for the incorrect title. I did upload a corrected version but forgot to cancel this version, so both were published, and for whatever reason this one got all the views.

      @@margaretallsop8146That reveals...
The Clangers sound comes from the use of swannee whistles. There is a different whistle for each Clanger:
Tiny Clanger is a small African rosewood whistle
Small Clanger is a toy whistle
Mother Clanger is a metal slide whistle made in the USA
Major Clanger is a UK-made orchestral swannee whistle made by the biggest specialist whistle maker in the world (who made everything from dog to police whistles to referees’ whistles to Swannee whistles!)
Granny Clanger is a professional-quality 1930s Bakelite whistle found on e-bay
Dan Maddicott, the Clangers’ series producer for Coolabi, is also the ‘voice’ of the Clangers. When the production team couldn’t find a professional swannee whistler or an unsolicited one that they were happy with, Dan was suggested.
He has a background in playing wind instruments, having played recorder since he was four and clarinet from the age of 11, reaching a Grade 8 standard. He also worked for an educational publisher and, among other things, produced recordings for English language teaching which specifically aimed to teach the intonation of language to students.
“I have a lot of experience of the unique ‘tune’ of sentences, something that is invaluable in the context of the Clangers,” says Dan.
