  • @BatterUpICT

    Update: I only used the mid 80's football for my own personal collection. I didn't need anything baseball card related. My buddy, who purchased this lot, pulled what he needed and then moved a portion of this lot to recoup his original cost. I am fully aware that this is "Junk Era" cards, but to clarify, this was more about collecting rather than investing.

    Wow, I got all of those cards. I worked at Goodwill and they would sell bags of 100 cards for .99 cents each and I would buy all of them - they were just stuffed with stars from the 80's to 2000 or so. Sometimes even cards from the 60's and 70's... So I have a ton of that stuff. I even found some 80's "Gems" in those bags such as the 86 Donruss Canseco, 83 Topps Gwynn, 89 UD Griffey, 89 Topps Traded set w/Griffey, Randy Johnson, Bonds, McGwire, Clemens etc RC's... Those bags were certainly a good deal. Now I have 20,000 baseball cards sitting in my card room. Not only that but I only got back into collecting 18 months ago after not collecting for 20+ years. (I stopped collecting in about 1997)... What's even more interesting is that I'm mostly a hockey collector (although I love baseball cards, especially vintage pre-80) and so far in 18 months I have managed to amass 250,000 cards from all 4 major sports... Ebay is an interesting tool, and I enjoy buying lots, collections and in bulk - it's a thrill because you never know what you're going to find.. Especially in those "flat rate shipping boxes" that hold 3,000 cards - you can find some gems in those boxes because a lot of the cards in those boxes haven't been touched in 20 years, so you may not find Gregg Jefferies RC's but you will find plenty of Maddux Rc's, Johnson Rc's and rookies of players who's cards went up in value as their careers progressed..... So yea, now I'm swamped with baseball and hockey cards (mostly hockey) and I have been auctioning off my doubles on ebay, but boy that takes time...
    Nice video tho, it reminds me of my collection but my collection is 1000x that, lol.. But I do enjoy watching collectors discuss cards from the 80's and early 90's because that was when I started collecting and these cards bring back good memories.. I even have memories of some cards where I was like "hey I remember this card, I traded this card to my buddy for his 86 Rickey Henderson, lol....

    That was Jim Kellys Rookie Card. The Michael Finley auto was cool as well... All thess 80s ams 90s cards are catching steam... A couple years ago not much value or desire but in another year or two they will be good 💰. Two years ago when I started buying cards again I was buying '90 fleer basketball rack packs for 2$ a piece because my LCS told me they had no value. Bought a couple with stars on the fron including MJ. Same rack packs on ebay going for 25$ on line now so... Great find my friends.

      Thanks Casey...its fund to collect and this channel has enabled me to share collecting with others. The nice thing about 90's era collecting is it is cheeaapppp! I'm done building the 90's sets, but occasionally will find a couple of good cards, such a s a Jeter rookie. There still are some good cards in this era, but not a lot!!

    • @BatterUpICT
      @BatterUpICT  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Juan Fierro jr ... happy to answer and thank you for asking rather than what others are doing by making stupid comments. As mentioned in the video we are completing sets. Mostly childhood sets that were started, yet never finished. While most consider this the “junk era” , its more about collecting than investing. With that said nobody wants to purchase junk, but when it’s not in demand it’s worth pennies on the dollar, so we don’t pay up for it either. What we don’t use is offloaded on eBay or locally to others with the intention of recouping or money and keeping what we want at hopefully even less expense than we had in it originally.

      G D ... I personally have not bought out collections in this era for sometime. • @BatterUpICT
      @BatterUpICT  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't ask what he paid for the lot as it wasn't something that we were going to split the cost on...I just used the lot he bought as an opportunity to film something for this channel. Based on who he bought it from and the fact that the guy wanted to unload it, as he doesn't deal with "junk era" cards, it had to have been cheap. I do recall him saying that he moved some of it shortly there after and recouped his original purchase cost. I ended up using some of the 80's football to fill in some of my sets, but didn't need much when it came to the baseball card related items. I know this isn't a dollar amount like your asking for, but this is the best I can give you.

    You guys are building sets so I get the appeal for you. But in most cases, it's the oldest cardstore scam in the book.
    An owner gets in a "haul" they can't use. So they want to sell it cheap. Meanwhile they already went through it first and pulled anything of value. Essentially you're paying someone else to haul their garbage away for them. LOL

    • @BatterUpICT
      @BatterUpICT  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That might happen in some cases, but the local card shop (LCS) owner did not go through this lot as my friend was their when the original deal went down. The LCS owner only wanted a few things that were being offered, but the seller wanted to move all including the "junk era" items...understandable. So the card shop owner bought it all and then asked my friend if he wanted to purchase the stuff he didn't originally want after the seller left. I'm sure it was cheap as both of them have done business with each other for yearssssss.....and even we don't pay up for "Junk Era" stuff! The other guy in the video, my friend, then pulled what he wanted to build the sets he was working on and then flipped some of it and recouped his original purchase price. Looking back at this I believe my friend did rather well, he got something he wanted and didn't pay a penny for it. In turn, I saw an opportunity to create a video for this channel which in turn worked out well as it has 17k views, at this time, and is the most watched video on this channel...who would have thought!! That's a Win Win in my book!! (I realize that most people that watch this video don't know the back story.)

      mac madden everybody has just about made that mistake at one point in collecting cards.
      Especially in the early 80s and early 90s until they started sale the top loaders and card savers.
      But yes I hate the pages there awful.
      Years ago they had a oil base on the pages and it ruined so many cards.
      They should have been sued for selling something to protect cards but only ruined cards.
