As BRILLANT now as it was then! These two are AMAZING. The choreography as well as the execution were first rate, elegant, most enjoyable. There have been a lot of ice dancers but this couple took things to new heights of elegance, sophistication, athleticism, and sheer joy. I doubt there will be any other couple who will match them in my lifetime.

Poetry on ice! The best that has ever been. Magic. it is interesting that they did not win the gold in Lillehammer (a gross injustice) but they are still the ones people remember. Torvil and Dean were total class on the ice, and no one has come close to matching their chemistry.
Next year at birmingam at world championship Grischuk and Platov (real best dancers ever) improoved even fer bizarre dompers how should need Ginger and Fred dance. Improve your critics skills and beszt wishes !! ))

Torvill is the 3rd oldest person to win a medal in skating in Olympic history and the two who were older both competed in 1924. The artistry was still there but the technical cost them in this competition.
They did win. But it's hard to receive your gold medal when judges, countries and federations conspire behind the scenes deals to guarantee their own countries the desired result. Figure skating is corrupt. Figure skating isnt a sport. The ISU is a social club of people who answer to no one and play with the lives and hard work of athletes who waste their time training for competitions which have pre-arranged results.
It was sour grapes by judges. I swear it was fixed as Chris Dean said that he thought it was the lifts were legal and then they weren't. I'm sure as he was such a perfectionist he wouldn't have made a mistake like that
Have to confess, at the time I was underwhelmed by this, though I ADORE T&D. But I keep coming back to it, and coming back, and now I absolutely adore it. The brilliant choreography, the elegance, the joy, the unmatched chemistry.... It's perfect. They were underscored, and definitely should have won the Gold.

These two should have received GOLD again but did not!!! It was a brilliant & technical performance, again perfection. They were robbed. But it does not matter everyone knows they are simply the best Ice Dance Partners to ever take to the ice. No one comes close not even any Russian pair. Before, then or since. Probably never. Simply the best ever. I love them.

Even 27 years after this performance still looks fantastic ! The choreography was clearly a tribute to the golden age of musicals and to the most famous American dancers like Cyd Charisse, Leslie Caron, Gêne Kelly, Fred Astaire and so many others that I can't remember the name right away.

И хотя между Болеро англичан и Кумпарситой советской пары лежит более 10 лет, танец советских фигуристов по-прежнему производит завораживающее впечатление. Оно - вне времени и навсегда останется в памяти сотен тысяч людей, которым посчастливилось его увидеть. Вообще слишком самонадеянно звучит это чересчур ура-патриотическое (что свойственно британцам) высказывание о какой-то особой "выразительности" Торвилл и Дин на фоне многолетнего триумфа советской школы фигурного катания! На фоне Моисеевой и Миненкова, Бестемьяновой и Букина, Линничук и Карпаносова! Которые занимали все призовые места на чемпионатах Европы и мира и на Олимпийских играх! При этом прокладывая дорогу другим спортсменам, вводя в свой танец абсолютно новые и сложные элементы, беря в качестве музыкального сопровождения не разрозненные куски с разным темпом (то есть три куска - быстрый, медленный, быстрый), а одно произведение с определенной тематикой. И далеко не все судьи это новшество воспринимали - и снижали нашим спортсменам оценки! В том числе и английские арбитры. Напомню, что и Кумпарситу Пахомова и Гончаров исполнили свою Кумпарситу только во время показательных выступлений.

They were brilliant. Seems every Olympic Games produces another Superstar couple. Since 2010 we have been blessed with dancers like Tessa & Scot, Meryl and Charlie and Gabriella & Guillaume. Athleticism is one thing but that with incomparable artistic flare is irresistable. These two have got it all. Their skills have served them well through several decades. Who else has done that?!

This is ice dancing at its best. I think the reason they did not win is because they left amatuer ice dancing, went professional and then came back and there was jealousy. This was what they asked for in this competition that there should be more dancing which they provided. They are the best ice dancers of all time and nobody can beat them.
Actually, they do. Oksana Gritschuk / Evgeny Platov were one of the most successful pairs in ice dancing history and they went on to win another Olympic gold again 4 years afterwards, in Nagano. I loved Torvill / Dean, but there's no way they could compete with those two Russians here: their program feels a bit outdated and rusty compared to the Russians' rock and roll. Torvill and Dean revolutionised ice dancing, there's no doubt about that, and they have to be applauded for returning to competitive skating after so many years of absence and for winning a medal, but I think that anything above the bronze was simply not realistic at this stage.
This couple with the brilliance of their dancing made you forget sorrow, worries , tiredness, etc. Ethereal dancing that for a moment elevated you to a new plateau. Their passion, concentration, rhythm, etc was just like if they were floating like Angels, I couldn’t breath or get distracted because we didn’t want to miss anything. Ravel’s bolero was special but to me ‘Rhumba’ transported me to the clouds. It was also terrific to hear from Robin Cousins whose, maestry avoided a fried of mine to have a nervous breakdown with the betrayal of her husband. When sad the net recorders brought the magic of Cousins. His entrance in the ice rink slowly lifting & streching an arm left people spellbound & his dance like a gangster, was the tops. … if only the new skaters learn that speed & harsh movements doesn’t stir much, it would be different.
25 years ago today! (21 Feb 19) It's incredible to see this in HD for the first time on that anniversary. Thank you Mintaka. There really was/is a layer of class to Torvill & Dean which their opponents did not possess.

Oh my gosh!!! The passage of 10 years since their massive gold win at the 1984 Olympics doesn't show at all. These two have lost nothing of their magic and charisma in this video. That footwork from 2:09 - 2:26!!! And don't you just love the way he rolls her over his leg?! And that ending! Their originality is just breathtaking! No one I've seen before or since them, can match the grace and delicacy and absolute inventiveness of Torvill & Dean. They redefined and refined ice dancing forever.

I saw Torvill and Dean perform Bolero live in 1984 and then saw them years later perform Let’s Face the Music and Dance live in 1994 (both times at the Forum in Inglewood, California) and yes they should have won their second Gold Medal instead of the Bronze, but that’s nothing to sneeze at. It’s an honor to win any Olympic Medal. However I remember the couple that won the Gold and they clearly were simply not as good, and I even recall them making a serious mistake in their long program. Torvill and Dean chose not to contest the decision however their fans may have disagreed. That performance was however flawless and why the judges did not see that remains a mystery to the international ice skating community. The Olympic Committee did years later at the Salt Lake City Olympics have to openly address corruption amongst the judges and give the Canadian pairs couple the Gold while allowing the Russian couple who’d won the contested Gold to keep theirs. I strongly suspect there was favoritism going on at Lillehammer.

Nope. Sorry, but this routine lacked the difficulty that the gold medallist routine possessed. Charming and fun, yes, expressive and charismatic, definitely, and technically well performed, but difficult moves? Nah. Having said that, it's a very good routine, but the bronze medal was fair.

This is ice dancing at its best. I think the reason they did not win is because they left amatuer ice dancing, went professional and then came back and there was jealousy. This was what they asked for in this competition that there should be more dancing which they provided. They are the best ice dancers of all time and nobody can beat them.

Nobody remembers the people who won, only T&D;s superb perfect dance. They are the ultimate ice skaters.
Actually, they do. Oksana Gritschuk / Evgeny Platov were one of the most successful pairs in ice dancing history and they went on to win another Olympic gold again 4 years afterwards, in Nagano. I loved Torvill / Dean, but there's no way they could compete with those two Russians here: their program feels a bit outdated and rusty compared to the Russians' rock and roll. Torvill and Dean revolutionised ice dancing, there's no doubt about that, and they have to be applauded for returning to competitive skating after so many years of absence and for winning a medal, but I think that anything above the bronze was simply not realistic at this stage.

This couple with the brilliance of their dancing made you forget sorrow, worries , tiredness, etc. Ethereal dancing that for a moment elevated you to a new plateau. Their passion, concentration, rhythm, etc was just like if they were floating like Angels, I couldn’t breath or get distracted because we didn’t want to miss anything. Ravel’s bolero was special but to me ‘Rhumba’ transported me to the clouds. It was also terrific to hear from Robin Cousins whose, maestry avoided a fried of mine to have a nervous breakdown with the betrayal of her husband. When sad the net recorders brought the magic of Cousins. His entrance in the ice rink slowly lifting & streching an arm left people spellbound & his dance like a gangster, was the tops. … if only the new skaters learn that speed & harsh movements doesn’t stir much, it would be different.
The speed, the footwork, the brilliance of the symmetry.... judges were useless .. should have seen 6.0s

Oh my gosh!!! The passage of 10 years since their massive gold win at the 1984 Olympics doesn't show at all. These two have lost nothing of their magic and charisma in this video. That footwork from 2:09 - 2:26!!! And don't you just love the way he rolls her over his leg?! And that ending! Their originality is just breathtaking! No one I've seen before or since them, can match the grace and delicacy and absolute inventiveness of Torvill & Dean. They redefined and refined ice dancing forever.
My parents just introduced me to them and they are so cool!! I adore their energy.

@@РадмирКильматов He's not kidding. The point is that the chemistry and magic that T&D offer with their skating is so great that lots of people don't care if they aren't the fastest or the most athletic. Me too, it's the only pair I really loved watching in icedancing over the last 40 years.

I saw Torvill and Dean perform Bolero live in 1984 and then saw them years later perform Let’s Face the Music and Dance live in 1994 (both times at the Forum in Inglewood, California) and yes they should have won their second Gold Medal instead of the Bronze, but that’s nothing to sneeze at. It’s an honor to win any Olympic Medal. However I remember the couple that won the Gold and they clearly were simply not as good, and I even recall them making a serious mistake in their long program. Torvill and Dean chose not to contest the decision however their fans may have disagreed. That performance was however flawless and why the judges did not see that remains a mystery to the international ice skating community. The Olympic Committee did years later at the Salt Lake City Olympics have to openly address corruption amongst the judges and give the Canadian pairs couple the Gold while allowing the Russian couple who’d won the contested Gold to keep theirs. I strongly suspect there was favoritism going on at Lillehammer.
Why is it it is always in favor of a Russian or one of the Soviet satellites???

Nope. Sorry, but this routine lacked the difficulty that the gold medallist routine possessed. Charming and fun, yes, expressive and charismatic, definitely, and technically well performed, but difficult moves? Nah. Having said that, it's a very good routine, but the bronze medal was fair.
