Those "staircases" are actually cascading drains to prevent soil erosion. Cascading to prevent water from flowing too fast downwards

It is also a fire breaker
If there is bush fire it will break the spread & give access to firemen to fight the fire
You will find it a common place in the mediterranean countries

🕝 Time 4:50 🤓 There's even a minister also don't know about it when he officiate the completion of the big retaining wall near my house with similar structure and 🤭 commented there are stairs to the upper level of the retaining wall 😅 for recreation.
🧐 indirectly this is correct as the maintenance crews do used there steps for easy access when carry out
      inspection and maintenance 👍.

My recommendation if anyone come to Johor and drop off at Larkin station, just walk across and go to Selera Johor at Plaza Larkin. You will find a lot of Johor foods at one place - nasi briyani gam, mee bandung, kacang pool, lontong kering, lontong, nasi ambeng etc.

Actually if you really can’t tahan to go toilet, usually we approach the driver and request and most of the time they will stop at the next RNR. Some Johor food I recommend is lontong kering, kacang pool, and my favourite kampung snack mi siput with sambal. Brings back memories of spending raya at the old wooden kampung house and we have that as our tea time snack with the elders.

Although i am from Selangor but i am even more excited that u are in JB cos as a student there, i have tried so many awesome food and would like to share some of my fav (hopefully these stalls are still around!!):
    - Sup Tulang ZZ @ Jalan Petri
    - Warung Saga @ Jalan Mahmoodiah (for early breakie, i remembered most food are sold out by 9am)
    - Pisang Goreng Mawar @ Nong Chik
    - Restoran Hua Mui @ city centre, a kopitiam
    - Ong Shun, a seafood restaurant which is filled with students at night (at my time) cos of the reasonable price for rice dishes
    - Onn Kitchen, different menu for breakie and for dinner
    - Bumbu Asli, the best laksa in my opinion
    - Bakso Kubur Cina / Warung Boyan, funny story on this place and i highly suggest to go!!! The word Kubur Cina means Chinese cemetery and the stall is literally located next to one, in fact ur view is the cemetery as you are enjoying their bakso!! I went with a friend and we went at night and had no clue where we were driving to cos it was dark and found ourselves at the cemetery with other ppl also parked there. We followed this other couple who just arrived and walked along this short path towards these lights coming from a house/stall and behold... It was the bakso stall hahaha but very tasty bakso!!!

Welcome to my hometown Steve & Ivana! Although I grew up in JB, I'm with Steve on Laksa Johor. My palette just couldn't agree even after so many years of trying 😣
    Nonetheless, here are the list of food recommendation in JB for you guys to try;
Baby sotong (seasonal) (dinner) - Tepian Terbrau, Jalan Sungai Chat. Even with no sotong, other seafood dish there are great especially the salted egg prawns.
Mee Rebus Haji Wahid (lunch) - Plaza Angsana
Murtabak Singapura (late afternoon/dinner) - Jalan Kolam Ayer
Nasi Lemak & Lontong (breakfast) - Warong Saga, Jalan Mahmoodiah
Sup Tulang (Gearbox) ZZ (breakfast) - Jalan Mariamah
Roti Telur & Lontong (breakfast) - Onn Kitchen, Jalan Tarom
Salahuddin Bakery (breakfast to tea time)- Simple buns cooked with 100+ year old oven. Goes well with Teh-0 kosong. Very nostalgic. Jalan Dhoby
Woodfire @ Jotic (lunch-dinner) - JB pride gourmet burgers. Jalan Kolam Ayer or Stadium Sultan Ibrahim
Pisang Goreng Mawar (tea time) - Jalan Sungai Chat

One of the things I'd always recommend to do in JB to at least watch a football game at the JDT's Sultan Ibrahim Stadium. It's one of the best football experience you'd experience in Malaysia. But unfortunately the next scheduled JDT game is 20th Oct, not sure if you'll still be around in JB or not.
Or at least go to the stadium and try the Woodfire burger. About 20-30 minutes from JB city centre.

Those are not steps for humans, well they can be at certain times for the maintenence people, they are actually steps for water, they form part of the surface water drains, and instead of one longgggg straight slope that will give too much power to the water that it'll tear up and break up the drain at the bottom of the slope in no time at all, causing the entire drain to collapse, and maybe even taking down the slope/ground with them, so they are designed that way to provide multiple breaks as brakes for the rushing water from above (you know how the rains are like in malaysia! In liverpool when they said it rained a lot, I was like oh no, but after experiencing some of those "rains", I told them those were not rains, those were what malaysians call drizzles!)
Char kuey teow = penang? Hmmm, fair enough, but have you two tried _ipoh char kuey teow kerang_ yet???
Johor = _otak2, laksa johor, lontong (yum!), nasi briyani gam (not my favorite), kacang pool (nothing to do with swimming pool, nor shooting pool as in billiard), zapin,_ and _kuda kepang_
    😬

I'm the type of person that like my rice banjir (flooded).😅
