Greatest cyclist ever. Won three, should have won 1985(ordered to help Hinault by his team) and probably would have won two more(1987, 1988 gunshot recovery years) to make 7 plus, a career cut short by the 40 lead pellets, 5 in his heart lining which poisoned his body. Highest VO2 max recorded and never cheated with doping or motors. Fastest time trial speed ever recorded, made up over 50 seconds to win 1989 over Fight in a 15 km time trial. Heroic effort. Greg Lemond. Most of those Tour wins he did without any help. Belive it or not folks, the world existed before 1990.
33.52 "Indurain never goes to the front. Never sets the pace" .... cut to 35.05 and you see Indurain grinding on with Rominger on the wheel for the rest of the stage even letting Rominger take the win. Phil Liggett always hated Indurain so much 🤣😂
He was pushing close to 50 km hr on a normal bike with only tri bars. The power of the chemical assistance is right there for all to see. I know cycling is easier in the Southern European area but still you would need a full Time Trial bike kit to get that speed here in Southern Ontario, Canada.
This year rominger was very impressive. Certainly the best but unfortunately he has lose time at the start of race with crashes. The Mano a mano with indurain was brilliant 😊😊
"For the first time Indurain has lost the shelter of the back wheel of Rominger" ... being said after we have watched Indurain pull the favourites group for several stages on several mountains... oh right... Indurain never did anything. Liggett always hated Indurain with a passion.
A great time in pro cycling before all the technical bike crap came in and ruined the sport. Indurain pushing 50 km hr on that bike man if the magic sauce was not right in front of your face using 44 rings and 19 on the back amazing.
rominger lost his tour in the time trial losing 2 mns behind hindurain..if rominger you have been with with motorola..carrera..GB Malicio or once he would have won clearly this tour

It's just a pity he couldn't tolerate the Turbo-juice. He could've been a contender 🤣
Thank you for the upload and sharing this gem! :)
Happy to share these
Incredible, this brings me way back
I agree. Despite almost every rider on enough juice to make their nuts explode, it's still the best era.
One of the most unimaginative Tour route's you'll see.
Thanks for all the excellent uploads!
I really enjoy all these old TDF vids but it does leave a sour taste knowing that most of them were doped to the gills on EPO. Thanks for posting.
Glad you like them!
Best years off the tour 90s early 2000s
Phil Liggett, the voice of cycling.
Mario Chipolata. The Sausage King. When the sun's out, he's really bacon.
We’ve made it to the beginning of the Armstrong era.
Phase 1. Famously the comparison was made between his prologue ride here and in '99.
THANKS A LOT!!
I’m a titanium collector.
I’d love it if someone made a video
On the history of titanium bikes in the Tour de France
I have a titanium spork. It's a spoon at one end, a fork at the other. They're used for camping cutlery.

wonder how many watts indurain is pumping out during his prologue sprint. looked like 1000

Agreed. Of all the people that challenged Big Mig, only Rominger really worried him.

90 percent of all riders mentioned in this video were caught for doping at one time, or the other

Xenon Jaskula. His gasses are noble.
15:09 that would be impossible today. Wheel change in middle of the road and stopping the rest of the peloton. Wtf is this Spaniard thinking
Is he even thinking 🤔🤣🤔
Lance ruined cycling with doping.

Good grief, how many flat stages did they manage to throw in before the first mountain stages, back then 😂
Lots but the early ones were for the sprinters
Much more entertaining than this 2023 tour snoozefest
Love that EPO............... Later, aided and abetted by HGH.
I hear ya, but looking at the racing post-Festina Scandal, it's hard to recommend it as a sporting spectacle.
