Built like a tank. I hope I like it. I just ordered one for $75 + $20 shipping. I couldn't resist the price. I want a NUX Mighty Space or a THR30, but they are so expensive.
This Amp (I've got one) is really nice and very cool for the money (espacially with the looper, even when I'm too stupid to handle it 😉, and the effects). But there are some things, that I can't understand, why they didn't add it on: - the selector for the drum-pattern should have a tiny display (you have to search all time) - the drum speed should be adjustable by a knob (poti), instead of that "TAP TEMPO"-button - the drum and looper should be synced - a direct input-connection to a bluetooth-transmitter would be fine - a USB-C power carge connector (power-adapter will be obsolete then) - same USB-C for using it as a powerbank - bt looper/effect pedal I would have accessories: - a bt-transmitter for the guitar (WITHOUT receiver, directly connectable) - a cover, if it starts to rain (all buttons are one top) - a tiny bag, to carry it in the park Maybe in the next generation. But all in all, one of the best amps for sitting outside. You can use it also as a well sounding bt-box Regards from Bielefeld Martin
I’ve had this amp for about 6 months. Price was amazing. Features great. I’ve owned the Yamaha THR, Spark, Boss desktops…. The Joyo is by far my favorite. The one or two sounds I play with sound great at low volume. I don’t play high gain stuff so others can weigh in on those sounds. It’s inexpensive, has only the features you need, foot switch is good, …. It is a bit glitchy at times but turning it on and on fixes any issues. Auto turn off is a nuisance but not a big deal. They seem hard to find online. Built like a tank…. Well, it’s as heavy as one for its small size. I’d rather they knock a few dollars off he price and lose the battery.
Just got it and I'm very happy. That wasn't a cheap amp but it truly delivers. Sounds are excellent compared to other little practice amps, a bit raspy during the first days but I think the speaker just needed to break in a bit. Controls are excellent. Having drums+looper is extremly fun. I got it to play at low volume during the night and can't stop playing it. Now some negative points: the firmware is a bit buggy (sometimes tap button freezes, sometimes the rithm wheel freezes, sometimes the footswitch acts weird, sometimes the acoustic model makes a big scream noise, sometimes the volume goes down for no aparent reason, I wish you could monitor the battery level, I wish the looper were longer than 30 seconds). Hopefully their next version addresses that.
Good sound. More for home training. The Blackstar Fly definitely didn't suit me. I haven't heard these two live though. I'm judging by the reviews. I was considering an Orange 20RT or a Fender Campion 20. I like the drummer on the JOYO, but I can't compare how it sounds
I wish Yamaha THR had a drum machine, looper and the ability to write audio to a smartphone as well. However, they are both built like tanks And thank you Andy very much for review :)
Very well thought out presentation my friend. I'm actually looking for a decent bedroom amp and this just might work. I actually like the fact it has a bit of weight to it, unlike the little plasticized Katana Mini which was very under powered and nooo frills at all. Yes this might well do. BUILT LIKE A TANK AND WON'T BREAK THE BANK !!
As a singer in a rockband who also writes songs for the band, i'm looking for a small package wich includes: practice amp, pc-speaker (aux/line in), line out and fully adjustable without any software. The dream would be a little helix with included speakers like the yamaha thr. The yamaha THR30II would be the perfect choice for me. But as someone who doesn't play THAT much guitar at home, the price is a bit too high. So i think, this little thing would be the right fit for me. Thanks for the review!! Und liebe Grüße aus dem benachbarten Bayern :)
Nice. Bunch of stuff here (CT, V15, L12, Spark..) but fun times with my first gen Micro Cube. 5 year old battery jams. It sounds great. 3 watts !! ha, only here because i hated a Super Shifter. btw, a looper ???? man,,,,
Well,I just ordered this amp so I'll definitely fill you in on the built-ith like a tank-ith bud. It was the looper, drum machine aswell as the non USB "what you see is what you get" that sold me... aswell as most of the sounds as I won't be playing this at silly volumes, (I have other amps) and the fact that I've been pretty keen to record stuff simply with lack of room atm I reckon I'll enjoy it. Cheers, Cool demo btw👍🇦🇺
Built like a tank! From the computer speakers the amp seems quite warm and full. With all the features it seems like a sweet deal, even with the small flaws like the weight.
I am quite tolerant and I think I am able to learn. The highest level of my idiocy is "Tap On Speed" on my Roland combo - I haven't understood it in 12 years!
the one thing that it lacks is a volume switch for the looper thats my only grepe oh and they could have put a pattern screen or at least a printed list but most of all it the looper volume that get me
@@TheGuitarGeek hello Andy. Two years have past and I wanted to ask if you are using this amp and what does it compare to? I see so many little practice amps on thomann...

The built in looper and drum machine are great and something more manufacturers shoukd take into consideration especially with the looper
Thank you for a good precise demo and explanation of different aspects for absolute beginner like myself even though i'm a old man, ha. You hit on something that i have encountered with my small combo amp. Thanks again. Billy
Great demo! I personally find the panel a little too crowded and uninviting. For an absolute beginner, a simple layout with reverb and delay would be ideal. The looper function though, is really a must have. Technology has come so far... Oh and why are everyone talking about tanks in the comments!?! 😂😂😂
Great content, as always. I am looking at modeling amps that have either 8” or 12” speakers. I play soft fingerstyle blues and some nice, mostly clean chord progressions. I play exclusively to low, bedroom-level decibels. I know that when you crank amps up, even a little, the larger speaker has a fuller, richer tone. But at the levels I play, just around speaking level or slightly higher, will I get a fuller tone from the 12” speaker or will playing at such low volumes negate any of the benefits of the larger speaker?
Not many things these days that are built like a tank. I'm looking for an "inexpensive" beginners guitar amp for my daughter to match with a budget electric guitar. With all the accouterments, is this a bit complicated for the true beginner who is trying to figure out cowboy cords? Is there a viable alternative? Ditto a bass amp for my son. Love your content.
Hi Bruce, There are plenty on the market of course but some have far too many features and need to be connected to a phone or computer. This one has a lot on offer and keeps it simple. My 4 year old son has been playing through it and he loves it. The drummer is a big advantage for practice sessions and the looper can be left out at first. Regarding the bass - thmn.to/thoprod/516942?offid=1&affid=288 This is the best small bass amp i have ever played.
Bruce, this amp is probably the least complicated while having a few extra features like a drum machine and looper. Would absolutely recommend for a beginner. See my other comment in the thread.
Thanks man for the review. I only have one question, though. Why is there a BT connection or what do you get if you pair this with your phone? As an external speaker for music?
Is there latency on the aux in, somebody please? Asking because Positive Grid Spark Mini suffers from this issue, and I really want to sometimes use this amp just as a speaker for my computer running plugins, so latency would put a kabash on this idea
Looks like controls and effects are based on Roland Micro Cube which also has too much fizzy gain. Good for cleans though even if it is built like a tank.
Built like a tank…. I like the battery. but, I would like to see a bigger 1x8 or 1x10 speaker and maybe just three flavours of amp sound like the Katana Mini with its clean, crunch and brown sounds. If the Boss Katana Mini was 15w or 20w and had a built-in looper, speaker cab out and recording line out it would be perfect. Make it a pedal platform to push the pedals they sell as Joyo and Boss do make pedals. Using suggestive up sale style marketing.
as always a good review, but i have a question for you ok I have a D'Angelico Tammany acoustic guitar and I'm buying the new model Telecaster HB te 53 KR Tributo. so I would like to buy a single amplifier with a price of up to EUR 160.00 that I could use on the 2 instruments, and that has the practicality of using mp3 or bluetooth to play along with the music ok. if you can help me, what would be your suggestion??? ps: I don't need OV distortion etc, I just like clean guitar sound with a little reverb to play Neo Soul R&B funk and rhythm a little jazz too anyway good job and thank you Greetings from Portugal !!!
