What a commensurate singer. I saw Gordon in many great musicals, e.g. Oklahoma, Carousel. I miss his fine voice. What passion he displays as he sings!!
Saw the film Carousel back in the 50’s and on stage many times since. My all time favourite. I also remember Gordon with Doris Day in Moonlight Bay and a couple of other, I think, black and white films either late 1940’s or early fifties. Nothing to compare these days.
Thank you, Alan Eichler, when I want to see the depth of true love "Carousel" makes me cry like a baby - Gordan MacRae has a tremendous voice, he will always be remembered for this song
Gordon surpassed any and all singers in his day and even today.. He was the most talented of all the singers, Frank, Bing, Perry, Dean, and so many others. But of course, I am in love with him and always will be. Oh by the way I am now 83 ye :
I wish there were more live recordings of Gordon MacRae online. There don't appear to be very many which is extraordinary for such a great singer. I know he had drink problems but his second wife said he was never out of work in his life so didn't anyone film him? He continued in stage musicals and night clubs until his stroke in the early 80's. Such a waste that we don't have more film of him on stage.
there are go to his Railroad Hour on TH-cam and listen to all 290 shows. Operettas beautiful. singing out of this world, harmonize by him so heart melting.
He, in m opinion, is and will forever be the best singing ever had. And what a waste that we don’t have more of him on film. My opinion of his vocal abiliies has risen in recent years
I'm so glad Frank Sinatra backed out of Carousel. Macrae was made for this part. he made one more film, "The Best Things In Life Are Free" and didn't do anymore movies. Part of the reason may have been his unreliability due to his drinking, part may have been that movie musicals were on their way out. Howard Keel was finished as an A lister at around this time as well. Hollywood probably didn't think either Macrae or Keel would be good box office as leading men in a non musical movie. Sinatra didn't do any great musicals either after "Pal Joey". Robert Goulet did television adaptations of Brigadoon, Carousel and Kiss Me Kate, but was never given a movie musical. He wasn't even cast in the movie version of "Camelot", maybe because the Hollywood bean counters felt that Franco Nero was a box office powerhouse and Goulet wasn't!
One of the greatest voices in musical film history. I absolutely love Gordon MacRae.
NO ONE SINGS THIS BETTER THAN GORDON ! FANTASTIC !

I feel the same way as you! I was a member of his fan club in the early 50's. I am close to your age, as well.

@@TrudieS-om3us Yes, I have heard those but they are only audio, not filmed which is what I meant.

Franco Nero was incredibly beautiful....that probably had something to do with it..
Great mjsic with melody and charm. I can't stand the "modern" garbage that pretends to be music.
Nowadays the intent is to look as ugly as possible...
Where did the talent go?
