I don't think it's a genuine mistake, I think India wanted to test Pakistan's anti- missile drome provided by china, which failed to block brahmos (It is even capable of carrying nuke). Since Pak has acknowledged it's weakness (Pak missiles can be counter by us not by them )and attacking India will be a huge loss for them. I think we have been watching the hit area for weeks for civilian movements and unfilled brahmos will show it as an accident, So Pak can't strike back and if it does it will become a black mark at the UN.
