I’d like to imagine the foot bath is just a decorative fountain with a British bloke in it confusing all the locals.
Thomas Van De Crommenacker Haha!
lmfao
That’s what I was thinking lol.
Bruh I thought the same thing
thats whati thought when i saw it
“Ugh this kit kat is gross.” Proceeds to eat enough to make him sick. Relatable.
Marco Cassone typical american move
Nuclease-free Man You uhh, know he’s British right? Wanker.
OcarinaHero dude of course I know that guy is a Brit. But can anyone say against the fact that proceeding to eat enough to make oneself sick is a typical American move? Lol
OcarinaHero makes my eyes water
Nuclease-free Man Yeah... You’re right. I apologize for my hostility... Also The fact that I literally just recovered from sickness due to eating way to much Nachos. Pretty Ironic and American Move of Me.
6:24 Apparently that Lindt cafe is now closed. That'll be the last time a Lindt manager took business advice from a British youtuber living in Japan.
HamletTwin not for restaurants and cafes anyway
So what kind of store is there now?
Why what's the reason
@@1A_B_C1 700 yen for a chocolate cake, obviously.
lindt is a big swiss chocolate manufacturer i dont think they needed to close for money reasons, but maybe changed location, could be a flagship store, here in germany they sell in shopping centers or supermarkets, the golden easter bunny is their trademarkt product (and easter eggs filled with nugat and or alcohol).
Me when the video starts: "drinking *cowpiss*"
Me, later: Oh... *Calpis*
Frankie Rodriguez me too
Obama don’t care FAIRS
Frankie Rodriguez ik that’s what I thought he said
Same here, the accent got me
if you dunno what it is, calpis is a yogurt flavored soft drink iirc
"These are awful" *Proceeds to eat all of them* I'm with you there, bud.
He he gas chamber ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
hahaha, brilliant comment :)
Lol
Reeeeeeee boiiiiiiiiiiii
The way he ate that KitKat was inexcusable
He's said before it's because they're so small
Thank god someone said it
Still love him though
That's a retarded way to eat them
Japan Kitkat is smaller than the usual Kitkat we have in all other country.
I just wish every airport have capsule hotel so I can get some sleep during layover...
Jamjam thats a good idea, actually. All main airports should have them!
ThatsWhatSheSaid right! Coz I only want to nap for few hours... pay full price on a hotel room near the airport is just too expansive ...
I think they have a Yotel at Schiphol Airport
it will still be more comfortable than try to sleep in the airport chairs while stay alert so that your stuff won't get stolen. Even I can go into some of the airline lounge, I still won't be able to sleep flat on a chair.
+Jamjam Some airports actually have them
I remember watching this year's ago. Now I'm in a capsule as I watch this video.
Haha I will be doing that eventually
I have a lot of years before I can do that :c
That's meta. xD
@Fahim Ali 100%
Same, but also, because I stayed at this very same capsule hotel maybe a month before this video got posted, found out he stayed here, now every time I show people what capsule hotel I stayed at, I send them this video.
Chris eats Kit Kats by chomping down on them without separating the bars. I knew he was a dangerous sociopath.
we need to take precaution!
Koko Lmao
I see nothing wrong with him.
😂😂😂😂 lmfao
I’m calling the authorities
I actually prefer when there's no greeting at the start of the video.
Then you're going to enjoy this channel.
". . . and to wash it down, I got some Calpis."
I'm not the only one who thought he said cowpiss, right???
no you’re definitely not the only one
I'm pretty sure it's a running gag on the channel
Actually it’s a pretty commons mistake among foreigners. It gives the product negative impressions so in some cases they are translated to Calpico.
At least that’s what I learned when I was given translation jobs for food packages.
I turned on captions to verify what I heard and realized how wrong I was
So the funny thing is you can buy "Calpis" in the United States (and I think in Europe as well?) but the international version of the product was rebranded to "Calpico" for this *exact* reason. Not even joking. It's the exact same drink as what you would buy in Japan, but renamed "Calpico" because whatever company owns the brand was like "Calpis sounds like 'cow piss' in English... - maybe we shouldn't ship it internationally with a name that sounds like 'cow piss'." lol
The capsule room reminds me of Kamino from Star Wars where the clones sleep
Bruh true
I used to own kamini moon
Probably inspired given that capsule hotels are old in Japan and truly maximizes limited space for clones in Kamino.
You can't have skewered food in Britain because skewers are some of the deadliest weapons. You're probably on a watchlist just for mentioning the idea.
Well, that's probably more true than you care to know.
OI! MATE WHERES YOUR TV LICENSE?
Actually, the japanese are very sensitive about such stuff as well. They took away my fathers miniature swiss knife at the airport, which is faaar to small to hurt someone in any way and not even sharp; rather used as a tool, that went with him in his pockets around so many countries in this world for more than 20 years. No other country ever caused any trouble for us about that knife at airports, not even the US with all their 9/11-fear. Not saying that strict weapon control like in japan is a bad thing (I actually think it is a good thing), but that knife was with my father all around the world for more than 20 years, and now it isn't. (We were in Japan back in September 2017)
Luke Pivato that’s news to me & im a brit.
+niino
We have had different experiences with the TSA, apparently.
I think a capsule hotel in London would be a great hostel alternative.
london actually has them already by the way
really? I've never heard of them. Where?
th-cam.com/video/odyF1Ea2Ro8/w-d-xo.html
that's awesome! I've got to try it
All around the world please!
Maybe it's NOT a foot bath...
That,s why they were all staring at him
He got desk popped .
Ben Winter
Desk popped?
ExyleCage , In the Will Ferrel/Mark Wahlberg comedy , The other guys, Will is convinced by Mark , that it is a tradition for a cop to do a desk pop , as in shooting a round off into the ceiling , while sitting at his desk
Ben Winter
Omg, that's hilarious.
Are you certain that "footbath" is not just a water feature in front of the hotel? Perhaps they are staring because there is a foreigner in the fountain imagining he's in a footbath...
I was thinking the same thing
"Why is this guy with his feet in the fountain?"
there's a small sign only seen in one of the camera angles somewhere around the footbath featuring two people sitting on the edge, with feet in the water
That would be hilarious but I've seen another TH-camr visit that exact hotel and it's for sure a foot bath
This is real footbath. And everyone(Including non-hotel guests) can use this footbath.
th-cam.com/video/QzBfJu4hhr4/w-d-xo.html
I'd think he understands Japanese.
We really need some of these in the US. Cheap yet not disgusting hotels are surprisingly rare.
They do this in NYC, though not quite to this extent and it's not really cheap.
we do have pod hotels which are between regular hotel rooms and these capsule hotels. Their just like small hotel rooms, but not as small as capsule hotels.
It seems like one of those things we in the states would not really embrace much.
Cool idea except I doubt it would work because so many Americans are fat! they wouldn't fit LOL!
Seriously. I love taking the train to San Fran for the night but the last train out is pretty early, it's nerve wracking to mind. Would love to be able to rent a bed late at night just in case id miss it!
They need these in airports
There are in some airports...in rome where i live there are some
The Mexico City airport has one, just opened last year. The Heathrow Airport in London has actual rooms (although they're tiny) with double beds that you can rent for four to twelve hours.
Yes!
elireloaded ya
Yea like why the heck not. They will make money and we will enjoy it
Lol who else thought he said cow piss instead of calpis?😂
Apologising for my immaturity
Rulyninjaplays That's the joke.
Just ate at a Japanese restaurant and was explaining to the waitress what "Calpis" was, since they had "Calpico" on the menu and didn't know what it was! Really just an excuse to say "Calpis" a lot.
Rulyninjaplays I was just gonna say that😂
me lmao
I went to this exact capsule hotel right after my flight and it was an amazing experience. 10/10 japan is a beautiful country
is it loud in a capsule hotel? can you actually sleep ?
@@bigfatcoolpeople Id imagine to some degree it is
@@bigfatcoolpeople It looks like their is insulation around. Japanese people literally don't have vocal phone conversations in a train because it's deemed disruptive to others and disrespectful. I doubt you are going to have noise problems there.
Actually these capsule hotels look comfortable
Yeah I think I'd like it
they're really good if you're tired and miss the last trains leaving in tokyo (the last trains run until 00:30 am or 12:30 am so pretty early) you can just come here and get a capsule for 6 hours, or a ''rest''. Lot's of drunk japanese do this, lol.
I almost had to when i missed my trains. twice. once from shibuya's golden gai, and once in roppongi. Not a fun experience, but i found bars/clubs that were open late. Dragon Men in shibuya, was a hell of a lot of fun, and some random ass bar upstairs in roppongi near this weird bar/restaurant place called ''bistro chick''
Fun times.
This hotel is more kinda when your travel, wanted save money and just want get a sleep after touring a whole place.
Agree 100%
Yeah, I wish they had some in America.
I've been wondering; who's the mystery cameraman following you? Did you pay/kidnap/seduce a random person? Was he threatened with marmite? More importantly, did both of you share a capsule? Who was the big spoon?
These questions have to be answered!
I'm positive he/she is threatened with marmite.
I've always assumed that the cameraman is either Ryotaro or Natsuki.
I'm going to take a wild guess that it's this gal. instagram.com/lost.in.japan/
I need to know that too!
I saw "9 minutes" and thought "f this, this is too long", but then i clicked on it to skip whatever boring part There would be before the actual interesting content, and got sucked in to nine full minutes of awesome content. Subscribed! Keep it simple, mate. Congrats on the great channel!
9 minutes is too long........... yeah sure, okay friend
People's attention span got fucked by vine, snapchat and instastorries.

Not really; apparently, most Pokemon actually like the Pokeball. It's designed for Poke comfort. And in the anime, it's shown that most of the time, the Pokemon can leave when they want to.

Its makes no sense to break a chocolate before eating it
Keira Ashley Except for when it's manufactured to be broken and it's in the slogan... then it makes sense. :)
I was thinking the same thing. You have to break it apart, then carefully bite off all the chocolate around the edge, and only then can you eat the wafer.
They're too small to snap up!
Michael Brill Wow... and here I thought I was the only one who did that. I tend to eat the outside first and the inside last for many things... Reese's, smarties... other things you can do that with... all kinds of stuff.

Calpis or calpico (カルピス=karupiss) has three main types:
- カルピス, normal calpis
- カルピスソーダ, calpis soda, a carbonated version.
- カルピスウォーター, calpis water, a pre-diluted version.

WHO here thinks Kit Kat Wasabi sucks? And have YOU stayed in a capsule hotel? Come share your experiences around the campfire.
And by campfire, I mean this thread.
Abroad in Japan I've tried one before and thought they weren't bad, though I'd rather have matcha ones lol. They were milder than I though they'd be
DUDEEE in Sendai there is a Capsule Hostel just like that one! gotta say it was kinda disturbing, it was kinda dark and i heard creicy japanese screaming at night... next day there was an earthquake. is it all conected? the name was 9 hours, BEWARE... mine didnt have tv :'(
Abroad in Japan I stayed in the cheapest one I could find, close to Ueno station last summer. it was about ¥2500 per night. I strongly had the feeling that it was a once in a lifetime experience back then but now I'm slowly beginning to feel like I'd like to try it again.
I really want to taste it. I have liked all wasabi related food thus far. I still remember the day they discontinued wasabi pringles and shed a tear every time.
Im about to stay in a capsule hotel in tsukiji for 4 days. Let's hope its not shit.
As a bit of an introvert of a person, a capsule hotel is all I need to try out!
I couldn't stand the shared bathroom.
White Sardines I THOUGHT THE SAME
april joy Thought the same. Why would an introvert want public facilities? Get a motel with a kitchenette...
+ Cody
I think he was saying as an introvert, a capsule hotel idea is good as you meet people by just going to sleep or the bathroom or that little study area whatever it was. Rather than being in a hotel by yourself doing your own thing like an introvert normally does. Alone.
@@METALFREAK03 An introvert WANTS to be alone? A capsule hotel would be a better idea for a more social type of person. Also, not the best idea if there is someone that is making a liability of himself everywhere he goes? :P
This was the first video I saw on this channel, and my reaction was lukewarm at best. Who was this not overly enthusiastic Brit, absolutely looking like he needed a good night's sleep? But for some reason I watched another video, and another.... And now I need my daily Abroad in Japan fix. :) Chris, you are solid gold! Keep up the good work

I love the idea of a capsule hotel. When I go on a trip I spend very little time at the hotel because I am out seeing the sights as late as I can. So I love that the Capsule Hotel is not for those wanting to "take it easy". I can watch TV at home. I just want a place to sleep. that's it. end of story.

Actually 3,500円 is not really cheap (if you're on tight budget), you could stay at backpacker's lodge or budget business hotel for much less via online reservations. But then again Capsule Hotel is quite a unique experience to try at least once.
NARUdaARC Less than $35 aprox? Is that possible? What?
yeah i think 3500 yen is about as cheap as you can find anywhere in japan. even crappy hotels like APA is more like 8000 yen a night
even the dinner he got was pretty cheap
NARUdaARC also its ginza... that's like staying on 5th ave new york
Actually, that is pretty cheap. Cheapest you will find is hostels for about 1500-3000 yen. And they are gonna be pretty crappy. I usually stay in the CHEAPEST possible, so I go with the cheap hostels. But if you want a safer, cleaner, and more relaxing stay... then the capsule hotel wouldn't be bad.
I can only hear you saying " Cowpiss "
Japan has decided to ease entry restrictions. Japan welcomes more tourists than ever before. This video is very helpful for visiting Japan. Thank you for introducing us to Japan.

When I visited Japan last year, I spent two nights in capsule hotels in Osaka and Kyoto. I think both were chains, and they were pretty good. Definitely value for money

One question I would have for these hotels is where would you put all your luggage? Since you would probably be traveling. When my family and I travel, we don't usually leave our stuff in the car, since it could get stolen/broken into.
Michelle Wolfe he showed in the video that you get a locker
took a *not so* short pause from the bingeing, but we're back. Time to binge some more.
When you said that one night cost 4500 yen, I was thoroughly surprised. I am planning to travel to japan and hopefully study there. Although I do know that the living expenses there are quite high, I did not expect it to be this high. If one night costs 4500 yen, how much would the total living expenses cost? In comparison, one night here in a decent hotel cost about around 500 baht; roughly 16 dollars or 1500 yen.
You can get capsule hotels at various price ranges, I stayed in them when I visited Japan and payed closer to 1400 a night a few years ago but the quality was still just fine for my needs.
It is expensive because of the location. Ginza is one of the richest areas of Tokyo- but it's a huge city with great transport, so you can stay elsewhere at cheaper prices.
If yo're going to study, i'd recommend air bnb and booking a long term private room- will cost you 1500-3000 per night depending on location and how far in advance it is booked.
+Mr Frost: If you are from Thailand, you are going to be in for an unpleasant surprise when it comes to prices in Japan. And unless you stay at a capsule hotel and don't travel or go out, you will be spending quite a bit. I would say that, at the very least, if you plan to live in an outer suburb of Tokyo (taking roughly one hour by train to get to the center of Tokyo), the minimum you can get by with is $200,000 yen per month, or 1700 USD or 60,000 baht. That would include a small studio apartment with utilities, (train/bus) transportation to and from school, food (bought at a grocery store), internet, and phone bills. It would not include owning a car, eating out regularly, or taking trips...or, of course, the cost of studying. Finally keep in mind that the price for a round-trip (non-express, one hour each way) train ticket from Hachioji (an outer Tokyo suburb) and Tokyo Station is 1600 yen / 14 USD / 500 baht. A "Teikiken" (Commuter Pass) can lower the cost a bit if you use that route every day, as you get a discount for paying monthly or every three months. Personally, I would rather spend a bit more on living close to my university and less on train tickets and having less time to waste commuting. The following link can help you find train routes and fares: www.hyperdia.com/en/
You think 14000$ us dollars for a fucking morgue is goodfor one year.....
Mr. Frost - If you are going to Japan to study then I would assume you would be making arrangements with the school before you left your country (as well as getting the proper student visa) and this would include finding out if there are dormitories on the campus that you could stay in.
And even if you are just going over on a tourist visa with nothing lined up to sort of feel things out, as I did, you would hopefully not be staying in a hotel more than a day or two. I have lived in Japan twice for a total of five years and both times I stayed at what is known and an “English House” for the first few months until I could get my own apartment. These are houses in which you rent a bedroom (usually a shared room) in a house with many other westerners, and occasionally a few Japanese people. Not only is the rent very cheap but they are a good way to meet other foreigners who can help you learn the ropes. The one I stayed at was in a great location and was only a few minutes from Shibuya by train. This is also the area in which I always look for apartments. You can get much bigger apartment for less money in the suburbs of course but I prefer being right in the middle of the action and being able to quickly ride my mountain bike to places like Shibuya and Roppongi.
As for apartment rentals they are actually cheaper now than when I last lived there in the 90’s. Also you can sometimes get places in Tokyo these days that do not require the traditional shikiken (security deposit) and Reikin (key money) combo. When I was there I had to come up with more $5000 just to move into an $800 a month apartment. And on top of that I had to pay $600 for a phone line (this was before cell phones) and buy my own fridge and air conditioner.
As for food and travel you can eat fairly cheaply (but not Thailand cheap) if you do all your own cooking and you know where the discount grocery stores are. And as someone else mentioned you want to get a train pass for your commute to work or school. And if you are lucky this will also be on the same line that you use for your leisure activities. By the way, if you are in Tokyo there is no point in even having a car and quite honestly its more trouble and expense than its worth. Just to rent a parking space in my old neighborhood would have been about $300 a month.
This is what the TH-cam algorithm thought I should watch today. And yeah, I'm left wondering why we don't have capsule hotels everywhere. This is legit.

The man at 5:12 had me like 😂 he was sooo confused. 😂😂😂
What kind of animal eats a kitkat like that?!
MetchiiMin I KNOW RIGHT!!
MetchiiMin me
Flamethrower actually im british and most people dont😂
+MetchiiMin So true
I always shove them up my arse
Bob Thenob comment of the day goes to... 😂😂😂
This is the same Hotel that Safiya Nygaard stayed at in her video of Japan. I just noticed, I knew it looked familiar.
i’ve just noticed that because of the foot bath in front
Got so excited when you stopped to eat at Torigin. We’ve been going there for years,; every visit to Japan since the 70’s. I love their yakitori and kamameshi! Another entertaining video, Chris!
i am not the only one getting this recommended years after, good. i was worried.
how was the nights sleep? you never said if it was good or you had trouble getting to sleep could you hear other people snoring? skipping out on the deets here!
Headphones
Bex ZZero those capsules are crazy isolated, you hear nothing. No headphones needed for sleeping.
No civil person would talks in the hallway...
Inb4 its just a fountain and not a foot bath
Shin yah
"Why is that white dude bathing in our god damned fountain"
There's a sign behind him with people with there feet in it
Your Every Day Joe Blogg we are joking
okay but why is he washing his hands in them wtf
Love your channel!
Those capsule cubbies are quite something!!!!
I just realised he has the PERFECT storytelling voice???
No thank you, claustrophobia wouldn't let me.
I'm not even claustrophobic but, this is a no for me.
Just seems comfy to me, but ive always liked being in very small spaces.
Hope i’m not the only one that the capsules reminds me of the fifth element cruise beds
6:15 Guy on the left looks really happy.
Is that really your whole name?🤔😨
@@akhileshchunam5094 Yeah but poeple call me Yuio.
@@hamburgeryumyum7491 Yuio is better, I am still unable to pronounce that whole, its interesting though😊
@@akhileshchunam5094 i actually am from Belgium but my grandparents come from Japan so i am not really Japanese
"dramatic reconstruction" really got me, LMAO xD
hey chris, me again. still wondering what your outro song is.
I also have wanted to know this :)
Must know as well.
I always comment this! Recently given up though, I guess I'll never know the origin of that sweet sweet synth... sigh.
Darude - Sandstorm
Waqas Musharaf maybe he made that song himself
Minimalism makes you happier. I'd be happy living in one of these things. Just need my laptop, phone and I would spend my free time in the world.
PathofCultivation yeah.
If I wasn't a gamer I would do the same thing as you
PathofCultivation same
Me personally wouldn't mind this but I like a space to work, so another room would be my minimum. I believe the only purpose of a bedroom is for sleep and perhaps some other activities 😏
Ethan Richie OH!
What kind of monster would bite into a Kit Kat without properly breaking it up first? I am utterly disgusted.
Love your videos
I wish Chris put links in the description more often. Like with the kind sweet shop lady in his journey across Japan that gave him and his crew sweets. It's not like I am probably gonna visit, but it's good to know where a foreigner can be welcomed.
Everyone in Japan must be skinny. Those rooms are not for over weight people.
It's one of the skinniest counties in the world
Skinny women are better than skinny men anyway. I think if i was living in Japan, I'd not worry about me gaining too much weight. I'd always slim. But skinny men is unacceptable 😂
@@korovuluan6291 Different strokes for different folks, I guess? :P
Skinny country.... I just imagined Japan badly slimmed down in Photoshop with a liquify tool
@@sigmacademy I guess so but lol. Skinny men? I'd prefer not skinny and not fat either 😃.
I don't understand how capsule hotels haven't taken off in America. They'd be of great use at trucker stops.
because like he said we are not fucking losers sleeping in the trash.
I mean sleeping in that must be degrading as shit.
I would be like.. where did i go wrong?
Wouldn't work in U.S. Whatever company tried to open a capsule hotel would get sued to oblivion by fat people, trans people, non gender confirming people etc.
Unfortunately, a lot of us Americans are inconsiderate assholes. I could imagine the fights breaking out because someone was watching their tv without earphones.
Chris looks like he dress himself. In a good way. No mommy tucking his shirt in. He's a big boy, in a Broad world.
Your fucking thumbnail made my day.
Totally read the title as "Slaying at a Tokyo Capsule Hotel." I stand by it.
Pubs in the UK serving their drunk customers food on skewers!. Yeah, great idea. Let's make the emergency rooms even busier with drunk ppl stabbed with wooden skewers
Pint and a fight, it's Saturday night!
God bless Britannia.
you guys make me wish you won the revolution
"Torigin
Tori means chicken
Gin means.... Gin"
HAHAHA XD
Hello from UPDT , very good video
Just stumbled on to your videos the other day as I am researching a visit to Japan. I have subscribed to your channel. You crack me up! Will keep watching.
wonder if it works in the UK: wouldn't pass building regulations so not allowed ..
Anh Pham well, some comments above stated that these exist in Gatwick and Heathrow airport, so maybe it could happen in UK.
Yotel
みおながのはら Nichijou? I approve.
Refract ミラー 404 yes Nichijou!!
The obligatory staying in a capsule video.
I held off for 4.5 years.
lol, every TH-camr in Japan needs one!
Idk why he ate all the kit Kats when he didn't like them before bed 😂😂
Love your videos. Thank you for sharing. Please take care of yourself and be safe.
How come you had to pay 4500 yen for the capsule hotel, while the sign behind you (at 4:26) says it costs only 3500? Did the priviledge of the all amazing footbath cost you an extra thousand?
+Lucos di Campos 3500 is the women's price!
I sort of read that, but the sign didn't clearly specify if the hotel just had a special floor for women (no idea if that's common or not in Japan), or had a different price. Thanks for clarifying.
"~" after the number means "or more" in Japan. So "3,500yen~" means the price starts from 3,500yen.
I guess they want more women to patronize the place.
talk about gender discrimination.
