I think the transaction with the previous land owner fell through which turned out to be a real blessing. He was being greedy and asking too much to buy or even rent his property. He claimed he's poor but the kind lady said all of them in the village were poor and she may not even be able to collect enough for the first one or two months of rent which would have become a hardship for the boy making him a slave for the land owner!! Now he can save money .. They may even be able to buy land from the nice lady!!

I admire Thanh's willingness to work but there are many things that disturb me. Basically, grandmother is slowing down. She's 80 and not going to be around forever. He needs to start taking care of the business of running his own life instead of just crying when bad things happen. There are more than 500,000 orphans in VietNam, most we see on youtube are younger than Thanh and are doing much better. Also, his personal hygiene is appalling. On the ,last episode they made banana bread. The bananas looked disgusting and after working all day he didn't even wash his hands before making the cakes and selling them! I have only seen him brush his teeth once in the years I've watched him. He never washes or bathes. His face is starting to break out. He needs to pay more attention to personal cleanliness and I can't bear to watch him eat. I am very discouraged by this boy. I think I'm going to stop watching. I don't think he or his situation will get better. It's very depressing.
