Dwarf Gerardi mulberry - small tree with huge production

Gerardi dwarf mulberry is a great tree to add to a home garden. Much smaller than other mulberries, it puts out a ton of fruit for its small size. Tasty and useful on a bowl of cereal or make some jam. Easy to grow and low maintenance.

It seems to be topping out around 11-12 feet tall I think, but I haven't measured it. It would be fairly easy to keep it lower with some summer pruning after you harvest the mulberries.

You can get a mojoberry if available in your country. It sits around 1.8-2 meters of height. Can be shorter if pruned, I have two of them growing in pots on a balcony

If you grow in in a container it will keep it even smaller. I have one in a pot and it is small but shockingly productive. Larger berries than I expected too.

Great video, thanks. How close can you plant gerardi to the house? I know that the roots of mulberry trees can be invasive.

Thanks. I can't really tell you how close you can plant to a house, since I never investigated that. But any I have seen sold are grafted, so the base rootstock will usually be the same as the wild mulberries - usually a hybrid of Alba and Rubra I think. So the roots would probably grow in the same manner as those.

Hi. Gerardi is one of the mulberries that doesn't root well from cuttings, so you will have to graft (or buy a grafted tree). If you know how to graft you can get scions for grafting from Fruitwood Nursery. www.fruitwoodnursery.com/mulberry-cutting-and-scion-wood-morus-alba-morus-nigra

I'm growing it in 7B (formerly 7A) and it has no issues. It is much hardier than that and may be fine down to zone 5. It is not like some of the more tender mulbs, like Himalayan or any of the Morus Nigra varieties.
