  • When getting onto the Salsa dance floor you may feel there is so much you need to know to be able to look “entertaining” or not get bored on the dance floor!
The thing is there are many ways to “spice” up the main fundamental skills & tools you may already know or have learned! Once you have a good foundation of these skills, you can start changing hands and adding variations to these turns to make them look different.
You can also add different speeds to become more dynamic in your dancing!

As a beginner this video does a great job of showing where we are and where we’re going. A beautiful lesson that every beginner should watch again and again. You cover the basics of turns, repeatedly stress the importance of mastering them, and then demonstrate many variations and embellishments that really inspire the dancers journey. I’ve watched a lot of beginner salsa videos these past weeks but none took me as far or were as simple and clear as this one.

1:30 that's me, hahaha. Excellent video, well explained. It's good to see a salsa teacher never stop the footwork while dancing.

Thank you Joel and Maria! I have been dancing salsa for approximately 8 years. I have been taking lessons on and off for the same amount of time. Your instruction and tips are invaluable to me! A lot of instructors that I have used have not take the time to give the lead tips that will only lead to his success! Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is amazing! Finally you’ve put into words everything I’ve been looking for which is learning the fundamentals in way where I can actually be creative instead of just wrote learning moves which I can’t remember when on the dance floor anyway! Will check out your website online. Thank you :)

    In the Salsa outside UAT.......
One variation involves a "tuck and spin" like they do in swing dancing.........usually in this case, you do a tuck pressure-lead, and you let go of the follower as that dancer does a full spin in place, without using the underarm.
    In the Cross-Body Lead Turn.......
The variations are almost countless. Some salseros/as know the inside Turn variation, or even the Overturned Cross Body with Check Action. There is even a double Inside Spin from the CBL if you are more advanced.

Thank you for your comment, we were dancing all the time on2. Maybe was the delay of the music when we were recording. Good catch! =)
Good to hear that you are teaching in UK.
You should come to NY during the Summer, best time for Salsa.
Like the song " Un Verano En Nueva York"

They're often starting on 4,5,6. When they're practicing the turns, his first step forward/initiating the turn is on the 1 and stays on the 1 during the various transitions.

When you raise your hands, how does a follower know not to turn themselves as you're raising their hands??

    • @francissantos7448
      @francissantos7448 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

A follower has a duty, obligation, knowledgeability or whatever that raising a hand is a signal something is happening and to WAIT for the lead to turn. The turn goes left, right or who turns, the leader or the follower. The follower needs to learn how to be a follower bottom line.

You do not explain any of the key point to triggering the turns with the right timing raising the girl's hand on the right beat i.e. Salsa on1 raise the hand on 3 and then turn on 5. Not once in this video is this explained and everything comes from the timing for a successful and graceful turn...
