I liked this ending more than the one in the book! Due to the presence of the crows in the seasons, Alina/Jessie didn't have much screen time so now it's her time to shine, I think. Season 3 would be centered on her story along nikolai's . I believe that the darkling/Ben will return somehow , traces of him still remained in alina and nikolai's bodies. I think It's exciting ! People need to appreciate the work behind the show and the book, it seems that people is unhappy with every choices they made, like , c'mon!

I always hated that she lost her powers in the book. I love that the show did this change for Alina! And I agree! I think a spin-off will be so much harder now and I think it should just be Shadow & Bone Season 3

No, I want my Crows to be in their own series. Constantly, overlapping storylines with the Shadow and Bone characters just lead to rushing moments that we're supposed to be slow-burn. Look at what happened to Kanej and Wesper. They just shoved some of the events that occurred in Crooked Kingdom.
I didn't mind that honestly with the ships though kanej felt slightly weird but I do agree that the crows should have a series independent from the original shadow and bone characters
You really don't want that. The Crows are like Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. The first movie did it just right. He wasn't the focus. Then, it went crazy with too much Jack and the movies were weaker because of it. Think of what a Crows show would be like. A bunch of heists leading to a big heist? Hasn't that been done before? Wouldn't it be boring? I'm already bored with the fact that the Crows always win in the end. It's like the Marvel movies where the good guys ALWAYS win. But wasn't Infinity War more epic than Endgame? All Endgame was doing was trying to reset. It was kind of boring. The Crows are special because they are the sparkle. Too much sparkle and they're no longer special. It's just a boring thief heist movie and haven't we seen enough of them?
This is a hot take, but I actually liked the book ending: the whole series, we hear about how power comes at a cost, one that you cannot predict, and this comes true with Alina losing her powers. I think, for the books, it was a great way to wrap up the series, especially thematically. But for the show, with all of the changes they've already made, I think they also did an excellent job including that "cost of power" theme. Obviously it couldn't have been just like the books, as we need more Jessie and not as a powerless retiree, and I think that having Alina's powers turn to shadow, as well as her sort of losing Mal, was a great way to give us that thematic satisfaction while still allowing the show to continue. Eric Heisserer is KING of adaptation writing, I wish that man all of the good things, he was so so good for this series
I think they changed the book ending (1) Netflix executives told Eric Heisserer they didn’t want her to end up powerless on a farm they wanted to keep using the charcter (2) if the series was successful and they adapted Zoya’s duology then having Alina pay the “cost of power” while Zoya never pays this price, is more ambitious and greedier than Alina, and gains even more power would be illogical (LB made no sense)
I didn't like the book ending bc yes power comes at a cost but it's supposed to be the thing you love the most, alina losing her powers was the easy way out both for her and LB. She could have a relationship with Mal and destroy her bond with the darkling bc they weren't bound to live forever together anymore. And the ending doesn't only make her lose her powers, she also goes back to being the shy, half bullied, only living for Mal which is sad I think when we saw she had real potential
I could still see her powers changing (more than we’ve seen) or her losing them / creating more sun summoners like in the books if they do do a season 3! We haven’t yet seen the cost of her using merzost and she seems to have a bit of a bastardization arc set up where we’d see more of her leaning into her powers and possibly becoming somewhat corrupted in the process, it could be a really interesting way to extend/expand the character’s function in the grishaverse while raising the stakes of that whole cost of power concept! Personally I’d find her loss of power a lot more satisfying than it was in the books if we saw her take that power much farther in (a) future season(s), especially with the parallels to kirrigan’s story that they’ve kind of built up this season where she refuses to accept they have anything in common but for all his toxicity and manipulation and irredeemability, he’s frankly making *points* about what it means to be alone like that, uniquely powerful and immortal in a world that will inevitably grow to distrust a figure like that. I think her refusal to accept their parallels is a vulnerability / a blindspot bc she doesn’t yet seem to recognize her own capacity/potential to do harm as she grows more powerful, and the writers could absolutely exploit that in very interesting ways

I was upset that the writers said to remove romance from most Darklina scenes. And the darkling’s ending was nothing like the books either, she held on to him as he passed, comforted, and cried for him
Book Alina: “I knew there was no bottom to the Darkling’s pain. He would just keep falling and falling. Mercy. Had I ever really understood it? Had I actually believed I knew what it was to suffer? To forgive? Mercy, I thought. For the stag, for the Darkling, for us all” Show Alina: you don’t know pain! No redemption!
@@camilasummers the main issue I had was that show Alina was just always angry, filled with hate, and showed no empathy or mercy at the end like she does in the books.
@@ullamorozova Alina is pissed because she's lied to, controlled, manipulated, and made complicit in the deaths of all these people when the Darkling expands the fold. The Darkling is a villain, a murderer and her priority is not him, but the people she has to save, the mission she's on. It would make no sense for her to want his redemption after everything especially since Mal, whom she just cried and confessed love to, had just died. Would have been a weird writing choice to say the least.
The way I understood it when I talked to him is the Ice Court heist would happen before/concurrently with the coronation. So Six of Crows spin-off would do the heist and then they can pop over to Ravka to help clean that up...but honestly it is going to depend on how much money Netflix wants to spend. I think we might get a Crows spin-off OR Season 3 but with how reticent Netflix has been about spending money I am really not sure about both.
@@TVGuide if Eric wanted more seasons, then why did he not capitalize on the huge draw that is the Darklina chemistry? Those 2 characters tension is what made the books jump to popularity. And Ben and Jessie have amazing chemistry. I heard that Eric and the writers intentionally removed all Darklina romance scenes - and it shows. In the books she is still drawn to him, listens, and shows empathy and mercy at the end….it was more complex and captivating “ Iknew there was no bottom to the Darkling’s pain. He would just keep falling and falling. Mercy. Had I ever really understood it? Had I actually believed I knew what it was to suffer? To forgive? Mercy, I thought. For the stag, for the Darkling, for us all” then she stabs him as an act of mercy. The dialogue at the end of the show scene was 180
I can’t wait to watch the next season cuz honestly I preferred the series more than that books soo so much!!!! If Netflix cancels this, I’m gonna cancel my subscription foreverrr
Nice recap. I have enjoyed both series and look forward to following the many plot lines set up by the S2 finale. I'm wondering about a small bit that wasn't mentioned in this video. When the darkling was being cremated there was quick closeup of a shiny beetle landing on someone. This seemed like a teaser from the director/producers of something to come. PS. I haven't read the books so maybe the answer is there.
I don’t think he’ll be back. He was so excited to play Darkling during AND post season 1. There was a script for summer 2021 and he seemed happy. But then production was halted, the script changed and he really really wasn’t happy about what the writers did this season
Mad abt the Darkling dying. Wasted opportunity to keep him alive. Sooo much could've happened. I watched this show because of Ben playing the Darkling and I absolutely loved him. His death destroyyed me I bawled my eyes out. Don't think I could watch the next season without his character tbh 😞
They wasted his potential. There was suppose to be debates and arguments between Alina and the Darkling in the tether scenes. Insead, all we got was anger. There were suppose to be moments of tenderness of understanding each other And no Baghra or Mal in the tether - that was a huge unexplained plothole.
i will also riot if wesper does not get a happy ending. i can handle some angst, but the end game must be wylan and jesper living happily ever after. also it's been a week since s2 came out and i'm ready for netflix to announce that they've renewed shadow and bone for s3, come on now netflix, don't be shy lol
I was not able to read king of scars yet and season 2 is making me really excited to read it. I know people hate Alina’s change, but the way she was written in the show, her decision to use merzost made sense and I love the “what if” question. What if Alina turned evil or not even that, but maybe show parallels between Nikolai and her while ruling together. Who will choose good? Will she be an anti hero. With good writing, this could be a story line.
The writers should have made the protagonists question morality and what's right/wrong. Because siding with the monarchy that has brought down oppression on grisha = questionabel. And the monarch was the one who hurt Genya and any servants he could. I wish Alina had shown more conflict on what's right. This show had such potential to explore political, class, religious, and moral issues...but went with the simple good v bad.
@@all-for-one-- Agree, having Kirrigan portrayed as "comic book evil villain" and Alina as strong sudden "grisha prodigy knows the best" was very stale for me, tbh crows carried the show
I think with the way they started the series, they really cannon separate the crows now (as much as I'd love a Six of Crows spinoff). Next logical thing is having the Six of Crows events with slighlty changed King of Scars to accommodate jurda parem and Alina and move onto Crooked Kingdom events but with new relationship twists we haven't seen before and end similarly to King of Scars the book for Nikolai. Can you imagine watching Crooked Kingdom events alongside Rule of Wolves for a season 4? Kaz and Nikolai running the show and interacting! That would be cinematic gold!
Great video but please don't call it Ice Palace heist, it is Ice Court 🤗 Reading it (again) right now (and picky about details😅) and really curious how Netflix will interpret this book. 🤭
I love the show , I love the cast But I do feel like the writers could've kept a little of that empathy alina had for aleksander even at the end of season one . This season, alina was full-on angry, full-on hate towards him , i just needed a little empathy, they couldve written a little empathy in the last scene 💔 ,couldve added some layers to her character
It was an excellent season I really liked it. As someone who does not read the books, p was not familiar at all bc I didn't know the existence of these wonderful books, I think the new characters were great and their introduction were very well presented. It didn't feel like a straight separation but a real integration and I think it so rare in series I've been watching these days that it makes me very content with this season 🩶🩶 I did not understand the end 'cause I think I wasn't really focused so many things happened in the last episode, thank you for explaining it and I love hearing one of the producers (or writers) of the show. Love seeing his perspective and his ideas. Netflix must renew a season 3, but also more seasons. Personally, I would love to follow the adventures of the Six of Crows, and I'm glad Alina preserved her powers. Can't wait for season 3 🤩
So Eric want Alina's story to end but Netflix won't let him? Why cram everything into ss2 instead of expand this arc into ss3? And then in ss4 they can focus on king of scar... Why is he rushing everything? Wtf
Right! He should have done just Book 2 S&S and a heist to get mattias out/establish ice court for spin-off. There were too many plotlines and it really lowered the quality of the show
@chris totally! They cram both sab and soc into 1 ss and expect us to want more of this mess? What is going on like SERIOUSLY? ss1 was so good 😭 I hope they take all the criticism and fix it in ss3 and spin off (if we ever get one...)
Honestly, I hope he comes back and after Alina has had some time to live with the dark power, she and he can end up together. Perhaps they can influence each other and gain a balance. They can influence leadership but not be leaders. Let Mal stay away. IDC about him and Alina together. Lol

And that’s not on Jessie at all. It’s 100% the show writers’, directors’, and showrunner’s fault. JML did the best they could with a horrible script
Am on the last episode for the second time since it released. Rewatching will hopefully get it to be renewed. So please rewatch it people.
i wonder if they make both a six of crows spin off and s3 shadow and bone, will the crows still be in s3 shadow and bone?
I think Eric answered that in this video. He said they want to do separate storylines for Season 3 and Six of Crows so I doubt it.
Yes, they are. The way it has ended, kinda gives away that there's gonna be some involvement in some way if not the whole ice court scenario somehow.
The dialogue at the end of the show scene was 180
@@TVGuide that makes sense! fingers crossed we're super lucky and get both
I NEED both a season 3 and a Six of Crows spin-off!
I can’t wait to watch the next season cuz honestly I preferred the series more than that books soo so much!!!!
If Netflix cancels this, I’m gonna cancel my subscription foreverrr
A spin off for the crows covering the ice court heist would be fantastic!
That’s a bee landing on zoya which hints at the plot in rule of wolves!!
@@alicialau4311 um actually i think it's not rule of wolves but king of scars
need to see ben barnes in s3
I don’t think he’ll be back. He was so excited to play Darkling during AND post season 1. There was a script for summer 2021 and he seemed happy. But then production was halted, the script changed and he really really wasn’t happy about what the writers did this season
Mad abt the Darkling dying. Wasted opportunity to keep him alive. Sooo much could've happened. I watched this show because of Ben playing the Darkling and I absolutely loved him. His death destroyyed me I bawled my eyes out. Don't think I could watch the next season without his character tbh 😞
He's definitely gonna appear again... Memories, thoughts... Etc
* cough* possible resurrection *cough *
Lol remember when he said “make sure there’s nothing left of me” ?? HIS HAND WAS NOT BURNED. THE ONE THAT WAS CUT OFF. ERGO possible reincarnation
They wasted his potential. There was suppose to be debates and arguments between Alina and the Darkling in the tether scenes. Insead, all we got was anger. There were suppose to be moments of tenderness of understanding each other And no Baghra or Mal in the tether - that was a huge unexplained plothole.
I don't think he's permanently dead... the bee landing on Zoya was a hint there
i will also riot if wesper does not get a happy ending. i can handle some angst, but the end game must be wylan and jesper living happily ever after. also it's been a week since s2 came out and i'm ready for netflix to announce that they've renewed shadow and bone for s3, come on now netflix, don't be shy lol
I liked scenes where darkling was more "grey" and human, he should be brought back as a morally "neutral" character but still important to the plot
@@all-for-one-- Agree, having Kirrigan portrayed as "comic book evil villain" and Alina as strong sudden "grisha prodigy knows the best" was very stale for me, tbh crows carried the show
ngl this is the only show keeping me on Netflix rn 💀💀💀
I think with the way they started the series, they really cannon separate the crows now (as much as I'd love a Six of Crows spinoff). Next logical thing is having the Six of Crows events with slighlty changed King of Scars to accommodate jurda parem and Alina and move onto Crooked Kingdom events but with new relationship twists we haven't seen before and end similarly to King of Scars the book for Nikolai. Can you imagine watching Crooked Kingdom events alongside Rule of Wolves for a season 4? Kaz and Nikolai running the show and interacting! That would be cinematic gold!
Pls bring back darkling... 😢
Great video but please don't call it Ice Palace heist, it is Ice Court 🤗 Reading it (again) right now (and picky about details😅) and really curious how Netflix will interpret this book. 🤭
Why has no one mentioned the bee on Zoya? That was an Elizabeta bee. So the Darkling isn't done!
I love the show , I love the cast
But I do feel like the writers could've kept a little of that empathy alina had for aleksander even at the end of season one . This season, alina was full-on angry, full-on hate towards him , i just needed a little empathy, they couldve written a little empathy in the last scene 💔 ,couldve added some layers to her character
It makes more sense now that they have explained it!
It was an excellent season I really liked it. As someone who does not read the books, p was not familiar at all bc I didn't know the existence of these wonderful books, I think the new characters were great and their introduction were very well presented. It didn't feel like a straight separation but a real integration and I think it so rare in series I've been watching these days that it makes me very content with this season 🩶🩶
I did not understand the end 'cause I think I wasn't really focused so many things happened in the last episode, thank you for explaining it and I love hearing one of the producers (or writers) of the show.
@@Iwtvprintern if you follow the showrunner and the writers they are doubling down and planning the absolute worst things possible already….
We can't let Netflix not renew this show
I think they should keep it the way it is and do both stories in the same season
Whatever happens bring THE DARKLING BACK as BEN BARNES as give us THE DARKLINA that have been stole from us!!!
Honestly, I hope he comes back and after Alina has had some time to live with the dark power, she and he can end up together. Perhaps they can influence each other and gain a balance. They can influence leadership but not be leaders. Let Mal stay away. IDC about him and Alina together. Lol
stop trying to make darklina happen it's not going to happen
@@ladansemakabre simmer down. I'm neither a writer nor a part of the show. I just like the relationship. We can all enjoy what we enjoy. It's ok. It's all fiction. They're not real.
@@RosaVRoman agree with u 100% I hope Mal stays dead, and Darklina supremacy
@@ladansemakabre They would have brought more views...
@@all-for-one-- ben barnes alone does tbh, and the crows being there
I feel like people are forgetting that Leigh bardugo is one of the directors for this show and she probably has a big role in what changes from book to movie to endure it doesn't feel unusual or it doenst make sense
Honestly seeing the bee on zoya made me yell 😂
Think they need a s 3 wrap up for the crows as part of shadow and bone. Then perhaps their own spin off. Kind of like The Originals and TVD. But right now they seem too integral as part of the plot for s3.
OH KITTY!! Is liter all of us lol
Ayuda que no haya malina por favor lo pido, yo necesito darklina😭
Me too a knaej shipper 😊
Alina did have shadow power after losing her sun powers in the book
No she lost them as the Darkling passed away.
@@ullamorozova yes she did she used it to kill him and spoiler alert for rule of wolves when he came back without his powers he took it back from her
@@nightmare1641 she used a blade made with Grisha steel in end him in Ruin and Rising.
He takes back his power in RoW by using an ancient item (I think it was a bark) and getting both Mal (a Morozova relative) blood and the blood of the one who k him
here’s the R&R quote: “This was the only power that was left to me, one that had never really been mine. An echo, a joke, a carnival trick. It’s something you took from him.
“I don’t need to be Grisha,” I whispered, “to wield Grisha steel.”
With one swift movement, I drove the shadow-wrapped blade deep into the Darkling’s heart..…Nothing left,” I said softly, feeling the emptiness inside me, the emptiness everywhere.”….
@@ullamorozova yes she used the blade but she used the shadow to hide it I just read the books you can go and check your self
Any chance we could get some Genya/Alina in season 3...?
Yikes so many Darkling apologists here lmfao 💀😬
Maybe it’s because I haven’t read the books yet but I don’t get it AT ALL
For real. And Darklina shippers 💀
I think this is because of Ben. He is just too good to not appear on screen again and we are sad 😂
@@starminoui oh the darkling isn’t less abusive and terrible in the books 😂😂
@@blank_line he’s wonderful and he’s really good as kirigan!! .. but the darkling is still not someone to ship with, ever. Ever ever. Lmao
Give the crows a spinoff AND keep them in smaller roles in S&B 3
Loved seeing some more scenes between Mal and Alina 😍
I would have preferred if they were just friends. Like the chemistry just wasn't there for me, and like many ppl i've talked to.
And there's that hilarious tiktok going around "and he's there"
Since the tv shows has the chance to diverge from the book series, nobody is gonna convnce me that the Darkling can't be back. There's a hand somewhere in Ravka.
if you read the King of Scars duology, you'd know that wouldn't be a divergence
@@paulinosaurus I'm behind on the reading. I basically discovered the Tv show a few weeks ago LOL So I'm sure there's a lot I don't know. But as I understand it, the show took some liberties with the original plot, right? That's what makes me wanna believe that there's hope for him to come back in some shape or form. A girl can dream, after all.
@@eleonoradamone ah, okay! the show did change quite a few things, yeah. but in the King of Scars duology, i can confirm that the Darkling does *somehow* return. that’s what i was referring to :)
@@paulinosaurus good to know! I hope the writers can come up with a way to keep Benny B in the picture, you know 🤣❤️
Ice Court*
I want a season 3 with the Darkling back and Alina giving him a second chance after learning just how prejudiced people are against him. RoW darkling interaction with parem was kinda disappointing. I'm hoping show Darkling vs parem will be more epic.
The only thing I care about is Ben Barnes no Ben Barnes not interested 😒
That seems...strange, especially since your other comment implies that you're already a fan of the series from the books.
@@stevenseufert2520 I've read the books and I'm not a fan the only reason I watched the show was Ben Barnes
after how much they butchered his character this season i'd say he'd be lucky NOT to appear again asklhklajdh but he will be back in flashbacks for sure (if there's ever gonna be a s3)
@@ladansemakabre ugh 😫 not interested no reason to watch good bye shadow and bone
@@nightmare1641 I feel you 100%. The only reason I read the books was because of the Darkling, I literally could care less about Alina and Mal made me want to throw up. The show is pretty much the same, it was only good because Ben Barnes played the Darkling so well.
Love nikolai and Alina. Such a powerfull and sexy future couple
