I want to testify that the past few weeks I specifically have been crying out to God "WHY DON'T I FEEL FREE even though according to Your Word I, as a new born, free." And another thing, I've been very bitter about the fact that I have scoliosis and can't run like I used to. So tonight happened to be one of those nights of bitter tears and I decided to listen to worship music to chase away the darkness. When I saw the title of this song and instantly tapped into the video. The moment you used the scoliosis metaphor the words of this song began to penetrate my heart, each phrase is what my soul needed to hear. Even the part where you say "for 19 years I was trapped in prison" (19 is when I gave my life to God too). It hit me so hard and close to home, I am indeed free. Thank you. God is working through your music Josh!

Dear Heart, ♥️ My scoliosis was so severe in 1997 that I had major surgery. My spine was leaning on my major organs. Then 2 1/2 years ago, I underwent neck surgery. A month ago, I had shoulder surgery. And my Precious doctor is looking into how scoliosis affects the whole body.
I am now 78, and I can attest through all of this, I KEEP MY EYES ON JESUS. He has never let me down, no never!!!

After a childhood of abuse,and the undertow of the enemy leading me through decades of prison, sexual sin, and all forms of sin, years of homelessness and drug abuse, near death overdoses, I finally did die when I met the King of Kings and now I have been born into this royal priesthood unworthy of the calling upon my life God chose to empower me with His Holy Spirit , the flesh consuming flame that has set me on His path and this freedom. This beautiful freedom and love has set me free from sin and death. And so I praise God continually and thank Him for it all.

One of his most beautiful songs, second probably only to White Owl. His songs have pulled me out from the most painful places in my own life to give my life wings again, to pull up from a very deep and dark depression, and step back upon again a solid soil, and then take that second, and third step and so forth. I give him thanks, for this, which likely allowed me to move forward. At least for one more day, and sometimes that is all that is important.

2021 still listening to "freedom" good as the first time my ears listened to it in...
I've known about Josh and knew him for a short time when the album this track is on came out. Admittedly I'm not a Christian anymore but I still absolutely adore the album "Underquiet" or "Early Works" as it's now known. He's so in touch with the music and so different from the average Christian artist. He has no cause to remember me but forgetting him is impossible for me. Bible studies at Life Skateboards in Muncie were special and Josh was a big reason why. It's amazing seeing him succeed.

just discovered this & he has blown my mind. this song gives my mind & soul "freedom".
No matter how many times I listen to this song, it remains totally fresh. I'm so amazed at the emotion this young man puts into this song. He's got serious soul! He's a cross of Jack Johnson and Tracy Chapman. I also really like the precessional element he adds to his guitar, very unique rhythm.
