- Help Students Make Progress: How SNHU became the biggest university in the world
How many people want to go to college but can't? What would happen if you changed the colleges experience to serve those people?
It turns out that the underserved low end of the market is much larger than you might think. Take Southern New Hampshire University. In 2010 SNHU was a small college with about 3000 students, 500 of which were only taking online classes. President Paul LeBlanc wondered why students would pay money for an inferior classroom experience.
So he hired Jobs-to-be-done and customer insights expert Bob Moesta to interview students, and discovered five reasons students wanted to attend college online. Listen to Bob tell the story of how Paul streamlined his school to better serve online students, and became the biggest university in the world.

I enrolled in SNHU. I was attending college physically in Chicago, and got tired of paying so much tuition for nothing special. Let me tell you, there was nothing special about showing up physically. All the grade was based on homework anyway, and I never understood the teachers; and had to teach myself the subjects. There's nothing special about physical attendance, for an undergraduate degree. Now that the virus hit and everyone has to be online anyway, I'd figure employers have to be forgiving of online courses. I enrolled in a degree for mathematics, they accepted 63 credits, so im already half way done. I start in June, we'll see how it goes.

It really depends on the individual and where they are in life.
I mean also it's not like your degree says "ONLINE" on it and SNHU is a normal university with a normal campus who also happens to have online stuff. I think there would be more of a stigma from some diploma mill like Phoenix or whatever, and maybe SNHU's branding doesn't really help them avoid the diploma mill vibe but they actually aren't.
@@thefuturist47 The problem with SNHU is that it has just 3 000 students on campus and more than 140 000 online. That’s just 2% of students that are on campus. So everybody is going to look at it as an online degree anyway. Same with Liberty University, Miami Dade College, Grand Canyon University. Most of these universities have one thing in common. All of them are below average and very poorly ranked. You just cannot find that many qualified professors to manage in excess of 100 000 online students. You then end up with professors that don’t even know Australia is a country. It’s much better choosing a big state university like Penn state, ASU or UCF. It’s gonna even cost less and the degree is much more respected. But also expect much more work than in these borderline online degree mills.
@@stevenvojacek779 Yikes. This comment is littered with erroneous assumptions. Also, Miami Dade College is a public institution part of the Florida College System. The tuition for PSU, ASU and UCF are substantially higher if you are an out of state student (nearly double). Only UCF from this list offers more affordable in-state tuition. SNHU has institutional accreditation from a regional accreditor and maintains programmatic accreditation for many of the programs that require it. The school also continues to operate as a nonprofit that pioneers expanding, not limiting, access to higher education. It’s not necessarily about being the most selective but offering an opportunity to learn for those who want it. These other schools don’t always offer the flexibility for online learners who have to balance multiple responsibilities. Also, don’t expect just a handful of professors to oversee the 100,000+ students they serve. There are lots of professors at most schools like this. Most also hold terminal degrees.
I attended Snhu on track to graduate in Febuary 2022!! It's an awesome school and my advisor Kaitlyn is everything. She checks in on me and monitors my progress! I am a busy wife mom and career women. SNHU is a awesome education partner!!!

I went to undergrad at Saint Anselm College, also in Manchester, NH, graduating in 2007. Then, 13 years later, I enrolled in SNHU's M.A. in English and Creative Writing program online at the age of 36. Going back to get a master's has been the best decision. I knew of SNHU back in 2003-2007 when it was a really small liberal arts college with no real online degree presence. What they've done for academia is actually really inspiring because it proves that education can and should be accessible to all.
