*Lisa's fantastic, I love her to bits. She grew up four doors from us in Rochdale (Lancashire), and we went to the same school, though she's two years older. Just a two-up two-down terraced house like most of the housing in Rochdale in the 70's. Nothing posh or fancy. But the very first thing she did when she became successful, was pay off her mam and dad's mortgage. Then as she became even more successful, she bought them a lovely 3-bed detached bungalow with a lovely big back garden for their dogs ('Stan' and 'Ollie') to run around. Still in Rochdale mind, but on the outskirts - a bit more rural. But she still always comes round whenever she's in the UK, and spends as much time as she can with family and friends. And despite her exciting/exotic lifestyle (at least compared to living in Rochdale anyway!) she hasn't changed a bit. Not one iota. When she's over she comes down to the local pub, plays pool (very badly LOL), and even belts out a song or two, Sometimes without any musicians there at all - accapella? Anyway she still has a fantastic voice in any case. Still a very normal and down to earth lass but she spends a lot of time writing songs these days, and living in an absolutely massive/beautiful 'loft apartment' overlooking Central Park, and with a huge walk around outdoor balcony. It's just stunning. Pity our 'loft' is nothing like that! Anyway sorry for rambling on JV and everyone else, oops! Take care all, love and best wishes to you.*
Jovaughn I was about to go to sleep it’s almost 1:30 AM in the UK 🇬🇧 but I can’t resist listening to Lisa Stansfield and couldn’t wait to hear your reaction to her and I’m so glad I did. I love this song so much and I’m so happy you love her too she has that Northern England soul. ❤️🇬🇧
There was once a genre called "blue eyed soul", mostly referring to the guys that sung with soul but there were a few women in there as well. George Michael, Daryl Hall, Simply Red, Jimmy Somerville, etc. Check 'em out!
_The_ song of 1989. Her *Live At The Apollo* performance of this track is worth checking out. Legendary moment. An underrated career, more Lisa hits: - Never, Never Gonna Give You Up - Never Gonna Fail - Live Together
Not only would you think she wasn't necessarily white without seeing her,if you heard her broad Rochdale accent you would never believe she could sing like an angel. Gorgeous looking too ☺️
Jovaughn “I’m right here”, “I’ve never heard a woman say they were wrong”, “Oh, no he ain’t coming back” but “I’m right here”. I absolutely love Lisa Stansfield and your reaction to her was so genuine. I especially love the duet she did with George Michael at the Queen Tribute Concert for Freddie Mercury. You will find it under Queen + George Michael & Lisa Stansfield “These are the days of our lives”. It would be worthwhile if you haven’t reacted to George Michael’s rendition of “Killer” by Seal and “Papa was a rolling stone” by the Temptations, which is known as Killer (Papa was a rolling stone). While you’re at it maybe listen to the original by Seal - Killer or his song “Crazy”. All fantastic singer songwriters. Thank you so very much Jovaughn I really loved your reaction!

When you consider this was 1988, being a 5'1" British girl. Lisa has pipes. When she rubbed the stump at the Apolo she had the crowd in seconds. You have to be in the business to know what it takes to rock the boat for anyone. She killed it 10 seconds in. By the time Lisa was done, phones were ringing off the hook everywhere
First of all, this song is major Nostalgia for me. My mom loved this song when it came out and as a result so did I! Still takes me back to being about 7- 8 years old
One of the best female vocalist ever. It you want to hear powerful and unique, please listen to Teena Marie and Cheryl Lynn. There are no other voices out there that come close to them. Truly unique
Lisa’s amazing listen to “all woman” my friend saw her in Toronto a couple of year’s ago and she’s still got it! Her selfie with Lisa is now a treasured possession 😅
Lisa Stansfield has a great voice and she had a string of hits in the late eighties and early nineties! She is British and she still performs. I love this song and her hits "All Woman" and "Change"! 💖💖
Both Lisa Stansfield and I think it was Rick Astley you might have been trying to remember are from the North West of England where I am from. I was lucky enough to see them in concerts back in the day and were brilliant. Their voices are pure gold and the look she had back then was stunning. Thanks for doing this song and I'm sure you wont be disappointed if you were to do more of her hits
Rick Astley came from N-L-W (Newton-le-Willows, St. Helens, Lancs). He dated a local girl who used to work at the local Woolworths shop. He ditched her after he hit the fame with, Never Gonna Give You Up.
@@DJKav Well there's a contradiction of sorts then! Wonder if she worked in the record department Woollies used to have? Good old Woollies with their Pick N' Mix hey!
She's got an amazing voice. Very soulful and funky music as well. Her debut album is perfect. The Real Thing from 1997 is defintitely worth checking out, great song, great lyrics, great videos.
My Japanese ex was Lisa’s hair stylist for this video and might have done her make-up too. He also appears in one frame of the ring of guys who surrounded Lisa as she was swung forwards and backwards in the middle of the circle. It was filmed at Borehamwood (where James Bond 007 is filmed) early one morning. You’re not the first to think from her voice she was a Black singer. My next ex was an African-American and thought exactly the same when he first heard the song. Now my partner of 17+ years is a Jamaican, and we live near Lisa’s home town of Rochdale, but that’s a whole different story. 👍🏻
In addition to being one of those British blue-eyed soul types, Lisa Stansfield STUNNED people when she looked completely different on every album. She was something of a shapeshifter fashionista type. All the while, though, her voice... amazing.
Lisa Stansfield, now that's taking me back. So many good songs. If you like female singers with powerful voices, I recommend Sam Browne and Stop! Also, to switch it up a bit, for some Irish flavour, I recommend Janet Devlin who's relatively new but she has a sweet voice with a pop/country/Irish sound. Holy Water, Better Now are a couple of my faves.
Not only a performer/singer but she has also written songs for others most notably Dionne Warwick(Friends can be lovers) And her music has appeared on soundtracks for movies as well. She was one of the invited artists at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert in 1992 where she performed 'I Want To Break Free'. A proud Northerner from the north-west of England
I love this song and this lady is a great singer. She surprised me back in the day and I think she is from another country. She has plenty of soul. You are too cute my brother, I am right here.
According to an interview she gave in 2019 this song was really quick to write and record. She turned up at the studio and her recording partner was messing around on the piano and the chorus just came to her straightaway. 2 takes later and the strings added in post production and the song was done. Now its a classic and probably her biggest hit
I listened to this album all through my double math class at high school, with one ear piece threaded up my sleeve. ON MY WALKMAN. Still have the same cassette, too!!! It’s a fantastic album, end to end. Thanks Jay for this happy flashback 🥰💜 Edited to add: she has a duet with George Michael from the FREDDIE MERCURY TRIBUTE CONCERT April 20, 1992 concert album-they sing THESE ARE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES, and she holds her own against George’s vocals (which is high praise from me) 🙌🏼🔥
He is so pure😃 love to see his reactions. I was little when her music dropped but I remember everyone reacted the same way to seeing her for the first time. Priceless.
I love this song and Lisa has a wonderful voice. Your reactions were brilliant and when you said is that her singing you repeated what many people said when they first realized that she was white. So underrated! I love this ladys voice! She only had a few big hits but has a huge following anyway. I happened to see her in concert & boy! She rocked the joint Tremendous voice range! Shes more jazzy blues but so magnetic 🇬🇧👧
I've said it before but I'll say it again, i love watching your reactions to the music that I was brought up with. The songs that you are listening to will never be forgotten. The musicians of the 50's/90's played instruments and the lyrics were audible, they were full of energy. This music brings back so many happy and sad memories. 💛💛🎵🎶
Lisa us one of my favourite singers great uniqie voive and co wrote this song with her hubby .I too Rochdale is my hometown.Glad you enjoyed the song ❤
Review Teena Marie. She's was a soul sister/sista! I love Teena. Some of her best was when she was on Motown & some songs with Rick James. Berry Gordy purposely didn't put her pic on the cover of her 1st album since he wanted her to be heard. It worked. When people found out she not black, they were shocked. She was so smooth & her personality too. She was definitely invited to the cookout! Square Biz, Young Love, Casanova Brown, Fire & Desire (with Rick James), Lovergirl, I Need Your Lovin', Portuguese Love. You can't go wrong with Lady Tee! R.I.P. 💖
Jeez this brings me back, been with my husband since 1988, so these songs get me, I was 14 and he was 15, yes we are late 40’s now. Where does the time go
Was a killer to dance to, face to face, tight, almost tango, then turn, turn and into.... the big lift, and the crowd goes wild!!!!! God I wish I could still move like I did then.... Thanks for the memories J
I've been a fan of Lisa Stansfield for many years - but such a delight to share your first experience of her work. Can I suggest another track of hers: "All Woman" - really heartfelt.
My favourite song from her is Change. But also check out other greats like All Woman, Live Together, Set Your Loving Free, You Can’t Deny It, In All The Right Places, Time To Make You Mine.

We all were taken with Lisa, her voice is stunning.👍🏽
But haven't heard, think she's still trying to find him!! 😂🤣
See if you can get any clips of Lisa Stansfield talking Jay, she’s got the broadest Rochdale accent that’ll again hit you WAY off guard
So underrated! I love this ladys voice!
She only had a few big hits but has a huge following anyway.
I happened to see her in concert & boy! She rocked the joint
Tremendous voice range! Shes more jazzy blues but so magnetic
🇬🇧👧
This was my jam back in the olden days. I can't remember how old I was but I sang this with my hairbrush in the livingroom.
Yes Jay, Lisa is fantastic vocally, so many songs all diff tempos, fab artist..Try Suzanne or All Woman..🙂
Another one of my Favorites!!!!! One of my all time FAVORITES ❣️❣️❣️. Everybody was digging this back in the TODAY ❣️
Fantastic reaction. Would really love to see you her song "Change" next. Another stunner.
I've said it before but I'll say it again, i love watching your reactions to the music that I was brought up with. The songs that you are listening to will never be forgotten. The musicians of the 50's/90's played instruments and the lyrics were audible, they were full of energy. This music brings back so many happy and sad memories. 💛💛🎵🎶
Please listen also another great British singer Alison Moyet - all cried out is a great song to start
Lisa us one of my favourite singers great uniqie voive and co wrote this song with her hubby .I too Rochdale is my hometown.Glad you enjoyed the song ❤
Jovaughn I've been waiting for you to do this one for a long time! It's a timeless hit.
Always loved Lisa's unique voice, I miss her voice. Glad you enjoyed it Jay.😎👌🎵
Don't forget if I were a bell. My personal favorite Teena Marie song.
I was just listening to Fire and Desire duet with Rick James. Absolutely love that song❤ brings me back in time.
Jeez this brings me back, been with my husband since 1988, so these songs get me, I was 14 and he was 15, yes we are late 40’s now. Where does the time go
Another great artist out of The UK. We feel the soul , our mixture of cultures produce great artist
Was a killer to dance to, face to face, tight, almost tango, then turn, turn and into.... the big lift, and the crowd goes wild!!!!!
God I wish I could still move like I did then....
Thanks for the memories J
She has a great voice with a lot of emotion. This was a big hit. Thanks for reacting. Loved your surprise and enjoyment.
Great reaction, love your surprise at her gorgeous voice!
I've been a fan of Lisa Stansfield for many years - but such a delight to share your first experience of her work. Can I suggest another track of hers: "All Woman" - really heartfelt.
So glad you reacted to this, massive voice, massive hit.
Always love Lisa Stansfield, an amazing voice and artist💕💕💕
My favourite song from her is Change. But also check out other greats like All Woman, Live Together, Set Your Loving Free, You Can’t Deny It, In All The Right Places, Time To Make You Mine.
I’ve known this song since I was 8 years old, I’m 40 next week! I had never heard her speak until a few weeks ago on an old TH-cam interview and I heard her Northern Accent I almost lost my mind! She sounded nothing like I would’ve imagined.
Born in Rochdale near Manchester England - an absolute legend!!!!
The first white female to hit number 1# on the US R&b charts back in 89’ - and she’s British.Check out her live performance at the Apollo she blew the roof off.
