@jhstiger Well I am alumnus of TSU, and BCC's is my favorite version of this song! I really like the brass break with that chord...evil sounding, and I LOVE IT!
No this is not MBC's version, but I must say that when MBC played Bethune back in the day, Big Ballin was one of MBC's signature songs long before Bethune started playing this. Check some of the old clips of MBC vs Bethune. The MBC version is more melodic than this one, though this one is good too. Jackson State plays a nice version this as well and just as loud if not louder, but in Jackson's version, the drums are more distinctive throughout the song.
None of them have the same Necks nor the Same big Balling in FAMU big Balling they have 3 moving parts in BCU they only have 2 same with MBC who was the 1st College band i heard arrange that song listn to 1:29 moving part on BCU and then listen to it on FAMu you will see FAMU have arrangement has 4 3 layer moving parts
I said FAMU as one of the many bands that Cookman put down, I know FAMU version is different, but it seems no one likes it and to be honest it's probably my favorite version and ALL of the SWAC bands version of neck sound the same listen to SU, ASU, The only one that sound different is TSU but the SWAC sound the same.
I agree wholeheartedly. JSU's arrangement IS about brute force, just like most arrangements they play. JSU, just like Grambling, need to check their history and take notes from it. Both of those bands sounded better in the 80's and back.
Same reason all the SWAC neck sound alike because THEY SOUND THE SAME! BCU makes it sound better. Famu, SU, Grambling, Hampton, NCA&T, NSU, SCSU, PRVU, Morgan, oh and can't forget about MBC. Thats just to name a few lol.
Look fact is MB WAS a great band but even if they come back once again Cookman had CHANGED! Cookman has been putting bands down and MB will be no different!
Everyone is entitled to their two pennies, even you. Don't equate loud with better. Cookman has one of the loudest versions of Big Ballin and they play it well, but it's a simple version. Go back and listen to MBC's version, theirs is a little more musical than Cookman's and to me, that's what makes it better than Cookman's.
there was never no 5,000 people n this band let alone 900, the student population at bcu is only 3,000 in something. but then again i do kno ya'll use those high school students to play with ya'll. I aint knock'n BCU, I'm their greatest fan. But don't try o put the band on a bigger platform then they really are. Sure they are the heavyweight champions of hbcu marching bands!!!
@Tigerwarhawk You gotta be kidding me. 1. This arrangement got nothing on JSU. 2. JSU plays all kinda different songs and dynamic variations. 3. No band sounds like JSU did the 80s including every MEAC band. Bands just don't arrange their songs that way. JSU and a lot of schools played in lower keys and a different style from today. And I'd take a 90's Boom over and 80's. Don't hate cause every song all play is boring. Some of JSU songs are straight Power. But others are pretty and others mix
hey homie just because you played it first doesnt mean you the best lol just take a look at the NBA players now a days doing stuff players back then would wish to accomplish.
The BEST VERSION OF BIG BALLIN THERE IS!!!
Man power, balance, blended chords.... this is great!
I was there in 1989 to 94 and I miss it. BCC TUBA SECTION #1 THE ROCK. FRAGGLE ROCK

@jhstiger Well I am alumnus of TSU, and BCC's is my favorite version of this song! I really like the brass break with that chord...evil sounding, and I LOVE IT!

I LIVE 4 COOKMAN!!!! (im comin' next fall 07')
i counted 32 tubas! holy crap
i like this arrangement better than JSU's, it's got some more chordal stuff going on rather than just brute force.
Sounds a lot like the one in NSU's arrangement...oddly enough.
I'm with you on that shit, supadave, thats exactly the way I think

Where is Morris Brown now? Out of the picture so how about we leave them there and when they come back we'll deal with it then ok?

Its only 24! Thats how many they always have!

Right they were in a movie and still went down! Cookman isn't the same band any more this isn't the 80's or 90's
A movie have nuttin to do with losing your acritdations. And MoB got in BCU ass in 2002 at Herndon Stadium and trust and believe MoB wont be the same.
LMAO what band has Cookamn put down beside ASU?But ask Cookamn why they have MBC arragement of Big ballin? LMAO enuff said
SO.
They not even blowing they got like 250+ people
dats wasup
it really doesnt
CRANKING!!!!!
Look fact is MB WAS a great band but even if they come back once again Cookman had CHANGED! Cookman has been putting bands down and MB will be no different!
NO DISAGREEMENT HERE!!!!
