Just loved the video ,I'm not local yet ,but soon hopefully be local when we return to yard 😂😂😂👍👍🏿🇯🇲🇦🇺🦘 Blessings from my local yard to your local yard
Madge and Tom, I'm so sorry you didn't get a tour to share more details of the factory. I've never been to that factory, but I've been to Appleton and the one on Trelawny (can't remember it's past name). Duckenfield factory harbours memories for my family. About 40 years ago the then operators were kind enough to give my 15 year old cousin a little holiday job there. He was so happy and intrigued with the massive machinery. Unfortunately he slipped on the wet factory floor, fell against the crusher and lost his right arm. It could have been worse. Such is life - they were only trying to help. I also lost another cousin, about 8 years earlier. He was the much older brother who was unfortunately killed by a loaded cane cart/trailer right there in Cheswick on the eve of returning to Kingston to take up a job. He was such a jovial cousin and he was going to be living with our family in Kingston. I was about 8 years old then, but I remember the the feeling when rushed home from school that day expecting to see my big cousin, but instead got the dreadful news from my mother. The song playing on the radio as my mother told me was "Alone Again (Naturally)" by Gilbert O'Sullivan. It's decades and I'm not sad anymore. I just smile when I remember how much fun he made for my sisters and I whenever he would visit with us in Kingston.
So sorry about your cousins. Madge remembers when BadOil was killed. It happened just before our gate where there used to be a great big common mango tree. She said it was sad and traumatic for everyone. She can still remember all the details quite vividly. Sending love and blessings your way. ❤️❤️❤️
Good evening Tom and Madge. I always look forward to your videos. I love it when you introduce different things about Jamaica to your viewers and subscribers. Sometimes It feels as if I'm in the car with you guys. I really enjoy when Madge tells her stories. Most of all I really love it when she laughs.❤❤❤.. Blessings to you both🙏
I very much enjoyed this little adventure! The talking between you and Madge really makes it very interesting and personal. The rural beauty is fantastic. You guys make a great couple and it shows that you two really care for each other.
Amazing scenery I will be sure to visit some of these places when I visit Jamaica You are truly a blessing and a inspiration to us foreigners Blessing to you both
You really brought me back to my childhood, the sugar estate, hollandbay road the scenery brought back so many good memories, thank you guys for such beautiful vlog 👍🏽👍🏽💕
Our pleasure! Thank you for a nice encouraging comment. We do this channel to show the beauty of Jamaica to the world and we have a lot of Jamaicans who enjoy watching from all around the globe as well. Bless up! 👍👍🏾❤️🇯🇲
Duck! Not Dunkinfield like Dunkin 🍩 I lived on the estate for almost the entire first 12 years of my life. My dad and many people I know worked at the factory. I’ve been on every inch of the game factory including the sugar house where the magic happens. Sweetest smell. Visiting there now is downright depressing as so many people lost their jobs and it was the main source of income. I’ve been to Peacock Hill (Peekakhill), to Ken Berth’s house. He was the owner/GM. Holland Bay is still nice. Thanks for sharing 👍
Great tour of the surrounding area Tom and Madge. My dad worked at a sugar estate on Holland. St. Elizabeth. That's where i spent my ealy years. Brings back childhood memories. Thanks again for your unique and fascinating tours.
I’m not sure how many sugar factories still operate in Jamaica. Maybe only 5 or 6. I understand there was once as many as 140. It’s sad and devastating to have the sugar go away so. We’re glad you saw our video. We love hearing stories like yours. Big up yourself and bless up. Respect! 👍👍🏾❤️🇯🇲
Blessings Tom and madge how are you today this is such a beautiful place nice🌴🌴🌴🌴 beautiful dirt road nice country area i just love you guys keep up the good work
Blessings Jason. We enjoy reading your thoughtful and cheerful comments. You bless our hearts and minds with determination to share the abounding beauty of Jamaica. Blessings and massive respect!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Tom you have a really good vehicle for those roads😄. Nice to hear the conversation between you & Madge. Another great adventure. Thanks for sharing with us. Blessings always 🙏🏽♥️🇯🇲
Thanks guys, this was a funny video, I did enjoy, as a child passing through st Thomas I would see the sign for Dickenfield but never knew they had all this land. wow
I think the estate land ends at the mangrove or maybe even the cattle grate, I’m not certain. But yes, it’s a big land. Blessings to you. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed our video. Big up! Respect! 👍👍🏾❤️🇯🇲🚙💨
Yes Tom and Madge, another great drive out, pity you couldn't gain access to the old sugar plant but the drive out still worked out , vey interesting listening to madge talking about the old days when her father worked in the plant, i think you need to return to interview that cow i believe he was about to ask you something but you drove off 😂😂, and boy it would of been some vidio of tom on a motorbike being chased by a crocodile 😂😂 bless up my friends and stay safe nuff blessings from down under 🦘🇦🇺🇯🇲👍🏿👍
@@RedButtonJournal yes I realized. That's a lot of land in the valley there not bring used. But it was indeed an adventure I njoyed it. But it's lonely though. Going across that cattle gridd was scary fi real.
@@stacymyers2181 it’s hard not to be nervous crossing there. Madge closed her eyes, as if that alone would help. She can really be hilarious sometimes. ❤️
Tom and Madge ,we really enjoyed this video interesting story Madge was telling us, and you and the cow , you are braver than me ,not sure if i would of driven over the cattle grid, thanks for sharing this video 15:37
I just added Toby Heights to my list. We’ve only made one filming trip to Clarendon so far but we hope to do more. We appreciate your suggestion. Blessings and respect! 👍👍🏾❤️🇯🇲
I saw another documentary that the 1st labour strike occured at "Jamaica Sugar Estates" as duckenfield was then called. The chinese indentured population struck over pay. They never returned. They started their own businesses. I used to live in one of the staff houses shown on the right. My teacher lived on the hill. This is not the original site of the factory. Ive always wanted to see the original site. Its CROC COUNTRY. You would never catch me walking there.
That documentary sounds fascinating. That’s the kind of stuff we enjoy learning about. There’s a croc sanctuary over there on the north side of the river. We visited it a few years ago. They are definitely a powerful critter and lightning fast. Big up yourself and bless up! Respect! 👍👍🏾❤️🇯🇲
Hey Toms sweetie you are looking very HOT today. Shades, earrings, Maxi dress... You have it going girl LOL even chatty. Love the interaction. Cheers my dears.
What?! Lot of people saying that are still Jamaica citizens themselves and don’t live in Jamaica, so it makes perfect sense to say locals to make the distinction. Local means local. Not sure why that would offend anyone. Wow!
Dean, the Oxford dictionary defines locals as: an inhabitant of a particular area or neighbourhood. It’s unfortunate that you so strongly dislike the usage of the word locals, since it’s very likely that people from places other than the US and UK will start using it correctly as well. Please try to stay irie.
Is someone using the word local the only thing you got from this fantastic video , you didn't notice the scenery, the old factory, the cattle grid that Tom wouldn't pass on his motorcycle, the cow on the side of the road, the interesting story Madge was telling, gee you need help i notice all your previous comments are all negative, so your channel must be top , wait you don't have any content, Sad as you gain pleasure from negative comments and no photo sad sad 10:44
Mr Dean don't worry so much no one is getting ready to sit the Cambridge exams. We are having fun watching Tom and Madge give us somethings we can’t do for ourselves. Thanks Tom and your beautiful wife ❤❤❤
