    Happy Jupiter-Xm owner here. The creative potential of this thing is amazing - take a look at the smiles of the people playing it on all the channels on TH-cam (vs. your average analog modeling or 2019 cheap analog recreation that's fun, but one-dimensional).
    Being able to layer synth parts and beats is awesome for creativity (5 layers and 256 note polyphony). I'm taking mine everywhere, and keeping extra charged batteries (watch Gattobus' video when he plays by a creekside). ROLAND: please make awesome travel bags with the Jupiter logo!

    Mine arrived yesterday and I still haven’t come down...! I recreated some old JX-8P and Jupiter 8 patches and to my older ears they were really close and could be closer with some tweaking. 5 parts (1 reserved for percussion), you can model so many older systems, and then they added extra filters. You can play with Moog and Sequential style filter modelling. I know there will be purists about the fact it’s digital, modelling analog, but who cares if you get really, really close. Add in that it allows oscillator drifting based on the internal temperature of the synth and even that that be tweaked. It is expensive, but value is judged on pleasure and I feel like I have got great value. Very portable too. Thanks Claudio for your usual highly charged and pleasurable run through. This synth may need a series of videos to do it justice....Thank you. Teddy

    I got one of the full size Jupiter X synths about a month ago. It's a very idiosyncratic and quirky synth to operate. I have to say, despite being digital, the sound is awe inspiring and the synth is capable of making extraordinary sounds. Using the "aging" feature and dialing in the effects right you can absolutely make it sound nearly identical to an analogue synth. All the synth engines are great, but the Jupiter 8 and Juno 106 modelers really stand out. It also has an amazingly great sounding selection of piano and organ sounds. There do still seem to be some bugs that haven't completely got worked out in the synth, but a lot of them have been fixed with firmware updates. I'm still not sure yet if I'd trust this synth in a live setting, but its absolutely amazing in a studio environment. I use it as part of my studio rig along with a Prophet 5 and Korg Prologue. Between the 3 I'm to get a wide range of complimentary and contrasting sounds.

    Those presets sound absolutely insane! The quality and variety are nothing short of epic. I'd spend forever messing with it if I had one, and probably even accidentally learn to properly play keyboard in the process. I have a couple old keyboards I poke at from time to time for fun.

  • @robertsc1
    @robertsc1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have this synth, and it is amazing. Its is identical in features to the Jupiter X, but with less knobs and smaller keybed. Roland told me it was due to be just a module, but I am so glad they put the 3-octave mini-keybed on it. I love the quality of it. Plus you have aftertouch and velocity keys.
    It has 256 voices polyphonic with 5 part timbral - & the AI-arpeggiator alters depending upon how you play and how you setup control of each of the 4 instruments + rhythm. Plus you can set the Ai automation per tone (instrument) and can have 4 separate instruments playing at the same time plus rhythm.
    When you understand how the menus works with scenes, tones and parts, etc.. you can make this thing sound magical. I particularly like how you can create some truly unique & incredible sounds with the Sen-core engine (from the fantom) instruments when you start screwing around with the osc, Lfo and filters, etc. If you dig deep into the menus the effects can be altered per part (ie. per instrument). Turning on the aging filter in the main system menu has the effect of when its warmed up it goes all zonky, emulating analogue circuitry when hot.
    I guarantee that after a week, you will be hooked. Enjoy :)
    Nb.: not only does it have 4 speakers, it can run for 4 hours on 8x AA (NimH) batteries

    • @Paul_Y_T
      @Paul_Y_T 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      robertsc1 no aftertouch on xm keyboard and poly is dependent on what is being used - it's 256 PCM voices in total but zencore patches can use 2 per partial (left and right) and 4 partials per part - so 8 voices per note without unison. VA oscillators/partials and VCF filters reduce polyphony further. Polyphony drops to 32 total/8 per part when just using the VA models (jup8/juno106 etc)

      It looks like some of the Xm sounds are derived from the Roland XV-5080 and RD series pianos, which are both PCM based. I absolutely love the samples that Roland was using around the time of the XV series, and it is really fun to see the SC-880 and SD-20 I have sitting next to me live on through these keyboards! ^.^
      Fun fact: The SD-90 (the SD-20's larger sibling) is very close to the XV series in lineage.

      @@garyseymour9672 I know my SC-880 from '98 sounds amazing whether I have it hooked up to my computer for recording, my stereo, or headphones for monitoring. Probably the best sounding VA synth I ever heard. They just need to make the firmware way simpler and straightforward for these two tasks :
    - keyboard split (selecting directly the zones limits on the keyboard !)
    - part MIDI channel assign (maybe using the 16 buttons while in the part)
    for quick operation with external keyboards/sequencers. Right now it's a hassle of menu diving to set these parameters and save them in a scene.

      I agree, the price is high for what it is ultimately. For $1500+ price range, you can get some amazing analog goodness. If you're all about roland, than the price does beat buying their 7 flagship synth modules individually...guess it just depends on your needs and whether you can rationalize paying that much haha.

I love my Minilogue xd. it can be so awesome! oh and also it is analogue mixed with digital parts which combines the best of the 2 worlds.

    I've been following your channel for sometime and it's clear that you are a professional musician... Why not make full songs and release them? I would definitely buy your albums!

    The internet would like to know how many power outlets you have in that room and how many multi power board strips do you have in each plug, when is critical point of having to install more power plugs in the wall and how do you manage power outlets with so many devices?

    Ideas to deal with too many cool Synthesizers: a) create a rental service and rent them to others b) create a synthesizer museum c) auction the ones which have been replaced with your signature to your fans. d) stack them more densely in your room and who needs natural daylight anyway ? e) whatever, Claudio is cool.
