What's up everyone! I wanted to put this video together to help people decide between the Canon M6, SL2 and G7 X Mark II. Let me know what you think about this video and the format. Which features do you like and which are not important to you. I'm super interested in which of these cameras you think would be best for you and why. Grateful for your feedback as well, good or bad.
Tech Gear Talk oh you replied! Really! That’s awesome! Nyway, i really have this passion for photography. I want to take pictures like those pics of ocean, mountains, my daughter when she will have her taekwondo promotion. I want my camera to be handy but i want to learn also those with different lenses. Quite confusing right?
Ok. So it doesn't sound like you'll be doing a lot of video, so an external mic input is not super important to you (but think about whether that is something you may want in the future). You can learn on any of them. They all have full auto mode AND they all have full manual mode where you have to choose the settings. They will also give you the ability to shoot aperture priority and shutter priority. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/PuE6wADvnAY/w-d-xo.html It's an early one that I created so I'm sorry if I talk a little slow :) As far as interchangeable lenses, it's not so confusing once you learn the basics, BUT, it is more expensive. The range on the G7 X MK II is usually good enough for beginners. Mostly people will want to go wider or add telephoto later on, which is the advantage of buying a camera with interchangeable lenses, so that you can continue to build. Once you watch that video, let's continue to answer any questions that you have.
Tech Gear Talk yeah i did considered that thing that is why i am having second thoughts of buying the g7x mark ii. But with regards to image stabilization, g7x have it ryt?
Tech Gear Talk I ended up picking up the Canon SL2 earlier today from bestbuy (couldn't wait for shipping lol)🤗 Absolutley love it so far. I ended up going for it because of the remote connectivity for video and I like that it uses full size lenses. This was the perfect upgrade from my OG Canon Eos M. Now going to use my old M for a secondary cam / b roll and / time lapse shots. Thanks again for the awesome video! This will be a perfect camera for the fam 😊✌👊
"couldn't wait for shipping" - LOL!!! So happy for you. The remote control for video is HUGE! I totally agree that it's a super nice upgrade! I'm pumped that this video is being helpful to people. Inspiring me to create more like it. Grateful 🙏
Some features of the G7XM2 that are rarely talked about: 1. Built-in 3-stop ND filter; helps you shoot wide open for better bokeh even in broad daylight 2. Spiral leaf shutter (YES!); gets you a flash sync speed of 1/2000 second, great for daylight or evening HSS shots 3. BSI-CMOS Sensor; Coupled with the fast F1.8 lens, gives unbeatable lowlight performance It does have cons like low contrast (compared to the APS-C lineup) and a weird greenish white balance that comes as default.
VERY solid points. Thank you so much for taking the time to contribute. People who understand, appreciate the built in nd filter so much. In my C100mkii I use it all the time.
@@raspberry5286 . I was curious too. I read it on a DP forum. From what I read you can tell by the flash sync speed of 1/2000 for the g7x mk ii has a leaf shutter and 1/200 for the SL2 has a focal plane shutter. The Sony a6300 flash sync speed is 1/160. G1X MK III is 1/2000. Focal plane shutters can't sync flash at fast speeds but the manuals don't say leaf or focal plane so its confusing.
Amazingly helpful video. As a TH-camr myself I've been doing all my videos on phones up to this point, so it looks like the SL2 will be the winner for me now.
Hi Donavon. I'm super glad this video was helpful. I'm just starting out and super appreciate the feedback (good and bad). The SL2 is a great DSLR choice. You're getting so much for the price. Again, thank you for watching and please let me know if you have any questions.
@@TechGearTalk I'm still thinking: probably the Canon M6 but I need to figure out if I'm going to use the external microphone or record the sound separately with my ATR 2500. If don't need the microphone I'll go with the G7 X Mark II.
I would also look at the M50 (th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html) if you're considering the M6. One thing I'll tell you from experience. Even if you don't always plan on recording audio with an external microphone, there will probably come a time when you will wish you could. Make sure you plan ahead.
You're very welcome Alison. The M6 is a sweet camera and will work great for your vlogging-style channel. I'm glad the video was helpful. Was there anything else you wish I would have covered?
Dude. You literally covered pretty much everything! Haha Oh, but actually I do have a question. Do all the cameras have the same low light filming capabilities?
The M6 and SL2 will do better in low light because of the larger sensor. Again, we're dealing with degrees here so "better" also is a question of how low is the light, etc. Can you give me an idea of a situation where you'll be recording? (because there is a lot to say for the size of the G7XMKII for vlogging)
Tech Gear Talk ah okay I see. That makes sense. Thanks! For now, just dimly lit restaurants, but eventually I'd like to use it for festivals and raves. I watched a detailed review on the g7x and it seemed pretty decent in low light like you were saying. I'll watch your m6 review soon and see how that looks!
Man what a great comprehensive review! I just ordered the sl2 and went through just about every option you just discussed but not nearly as organized...lol. Thanks for doing that and a perfect explanation of what slr cameras do.
Thanks so much for this video. This was a answer to my prayers. I am torn between g7x and sl2. I vlog and I do sit down videos like this one. I have a canon t5 so I have extra lens and mic so now I think I'm going for the sl2. I do my videos alone and I'm so happy I can use my phone as a monitor. Thanks again
Hi Sabrina! I'm so, so, so glad that this video was helpful to you. That is truly my goal. I know this is a big decision for people and I just hope I can make it a little easier. Yes, the SL2 is going to be awesome and you'll be able to re-purpose your existing lens (woohoo, save that money). Being able to use your cell phone to remotely monitor and shoot is awesome and is going to be so valuable to you! Great job on your channel by the way! I like the honesty and positive vibe you give off in your videos, and I appreciate that you get real even on super serious topics that some people avoid. I'm just starting out here so we'll see where this journey takes me. I would super appreciate you supporting the channel when you buy the camera, if that is possible :) What external mic do you use?
Best review I've seen so far! Thanks for this! You also caused me to doubt my first choice: G7 MkII ! I liked the SLR2 remote video control. Now I am confused. lol
Oh wow, thank you so much; That's super kind. I'm glad you like it and you're very welcome. I think they are both really good options, it depends on what features you're looking for. I love the G&XMKII because it is SO portable. But the SL2 will give really nice quality and I love remote control and an external mic input. Good thing is, it's hard to go wrong. Thank you again for the kind words!
I'm loving my new M6! I shoot stills with full frame DSLR's and use the M6 for vlogging and it's a joy to use. I'm going to purchase an adapter to use all my EF lenses on M6 body.
Sweet Josh!! Plus it's a crazy nice and portable camera to take with you when your full frame is just too big. Thanks for watching and dropping me a line!
You are one of the best tech reviewers on youtube! Btw, you made a really good point when talking about the specs not telling the whole story (external mic blocking the selfie screen) and I like that you offered a work-around with the alternative mount. This video was so thorough and thought out. Really good job, man! ✌😎
Wow... been watching a lot of camera reviews lately and can confidently say that this is one of the best reviews I've seen - clear, unbiased and in-depth. Hope your channel continued to grow 🙏🏻 Keep up the good work!!
i think i lean more on the m6 as i will ne using the camera for travel i also like the interchangeable lens on it.. i researched the lenses for eos m and it only offers a few, but with the additional one inch adapter it opens up the option to choose from ef/ef-s lens.. also i dont think that i will miss the view finder that much though if i get more serious on photography i might be needing one but for now i'll be fine without it. :) oh also just wondering how about comparing the m5 and m6 in the future? anyways thanks for the vid and happy new year. :)
Super insightful comments. The adapter is a great option (kinda $$$$ though) and really opens up the possibilities. The electronic view finder is pretty cool, but I'll be interested if you feel like you're missing it once you've used the camera for a while without it. Personally, since I'm used to having one, I think I'd miss it....but I thought I would miss the headphone jack on my iPhone 7 Plus until I got the Airpods :D
G7X MkII(or the next model) will be my next camera. I do drive-by and cycle-by shooting quite often and pocketablity is very important to me. These days many jackets and even some shirts(and some pants) equipped with cellphone pocket(s) and those come in very handy if the camera fits in it. I found this comparison review very helpful for all levels of users, specially not assuming what everybody should know.
Thank you SO MUCH for this! I was completely torn and having difficulty comparing the M6 & G7. This seriously saved me from driving myself even more insane deciding between the two 😂
this was such a helpful video. I was confused about buying the sl2 for the longest time. This cleared up a lot of my questions. Thanks. Keep the great content coming!
Well like everyone else, I too started off with the canon. But slowly as I looked and read up more about cameras, I found out sony is equally in par with canon. Being a sound designer, the main use of my camera will be to document the field sound recordings which I do. Some of which do take place in low light conditions. The canon sl2 has everything that I need. From external mic input, to flipscreen and a great auto focus capability. I don't really care about 4k although the fact that sony is providing me all these features (minus the flipout screen) plus 4k capabilities and better low light performance, I feel sony (a6300 to be specific) is a better option to go with. If I may request, I'd love to see a comparison between the Canon sl2 and the Sony a6300 on your channel sometime in the future. :)
I'm actually reviewing the A6500 now. I'll get to the a6300. I would definitely recommend that you first get you hand on the Sony and the SL2 and see which "feels" better. Don't always go by specs. I'm not saying not to get the a6300 but only that you should be careful about just comparing specs. If you're always behind the camera, the flipout screen won't really matter to you. I really like the touch screen on the SL2, I don't believe the a6300. I'm impressed with the a6500 so far and I will definitely create a video for the a6300 when I get a chance. I need more time!! :) Autofocus is not as fast on the 6500 vs the Canon (0.05 vs 0.03) but I probably only notice that because I';m used to the Canon. Sony also has 120 fps so that's nice for slo-mo.
I love this comparison video. Also when you said specs don't tell the story. Got the M6 and cannot wait to start playing around with it. Thanks for making this video.
I had the SL2 but I ended up selling it and ordered the G7 X Mark II. Wanted something without interchangeable lenses yet with DSRL features. I’m getting it in a few days. Can’t wait. ☺️
@@TechGearTalk I was looking all over the internet with all of these cameras in my Amazon cart just trying to see if I could see an objective comparison. Everything on your channel is so top notch in terms of quality, friend. Thank you so, so much for what you do!
Glad it was helpful and congrats!! If you want more about that camera, here is my SL2 playlist: th-cam.com/play/PL9Y8hNm43poKzHUQ-5DoPGtTfUm5s_khH.html Hope it's helpful. Let me know if you have any questions.
This is an AWESOME video. So much information and so well laid out. Perfect pace. Definitely going with the SL2. Wish I would have found this info before I ended up with my current DSLR. I guess we all live and learn. Thanks for much for the great content! New sub.
@@TechGearTalk No problem. :) I'm definitely going to end up with the SL2. The more research I do on it the more I'm sold. It just offers so many great features and so much versatility.
@@TechGearTalk Yes I did. That's how I ended up here actually. You'd think it would be the other way around. Lol. But I totally agree. It seems very user friendly. Keep up the great reviews!!
I’ve been wanting a good camera and I’ve watched so many camera reviews and I’ve been thinking of the sl2 and after watching this video, you helped me confirm my choice! Thanks!
That's great Karen. I'm so glad that it was helpful and thank you for the kind words! If still possible, I would appreciate if you used the links in the profile when you're ready to buy! Thank you again for the feedback, I super appreciate it 🙏
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate the support and kind words. The M6 is so good. Let me know what you think when you get it. What do you plan on using it for.
The M6 uses the liveview at all times since there is no viewfinder (you can buy an electronic view finder if you want one). So you're always seeing a preview of what it would look like and the settings you selected.
Agreed with other comments, this is the best review I've seen. I'm leaning towards the M6 to get the size advantage but wish it would work with video connected to the phone. Do you know if there's any chance of that in a future software update or if it will always be as is?
wow, thank you so much. I super appreciate you watching the video and the feedback. I do not know about a software/firmware update. I am actually trying to reach out to Canon to get an answer. It would be AMAZING if they could do that. I don't see how that's not the case, but I'm also not the one writing the software. The fact that some cameras can do it is encouraging. The M6 is really nice. What will you be using it for?
All 3 are great, esp the SL2/200D. But your high-end smartphone is best👍 cos it’s always on your body, and its photos in social media is not hugely inferior vs the SL2....(depending on your subject as well).
Those are really valid points. I always say "The best camera is the one you have with you". For social media, especially when there is enough light, the phone does a good enough job.
Very informative.. now i understand whats the difference of each camera. Thank you so much for your info ! Have more power and success to your channel ! Thumbs up 🤗👍👍👍
Thank you, I'm glad it was helpful. Another great options is: th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html (similar but better than the M6) Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing!
Thank you very much, This have been the Best review by far as seen on these cameras, And of course I subscribed, I have a TH-cam channel, And I'm thinking about upgrading to the SL2, Because of the smartphone control when you're videotaping, I was wondering if this camera could pick up the shine when you're filming shinier materials, The camera that I use right now doesn't, So I don't know if it's the lens, The camera, Or the settings, If you have any idea what would give me shine let me know, Thanks.
If control is your number one priority, you may want to look at the M50 (th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html). As far was "shine", can you give me an example. What are you shooting with now? Thank you so much for watching and supporting the channel!
Ok, that helps! 1. You can control with both the SL2 and the M50 (that I linked to). The M50 has full control and the SL2 will have pretty good control over the video (th-cam.com/video/WEQtH8hh8dM/w-d-xo.html). The M50 lets you change focus point which is really nice. 2. As far as the shine. That I think has to do with 2 things. Lighting and exposure. With these cameras, you'll be able to better control exposure (and you'll also have better dynamic range). If you need help understanding exposure, check this out: th-cam.com/video/PuE6wADvnAY/w-d-xo.html I made it for photography but the same holds true for video. I hope this is being helpful. If you have more questions after watching the videos, let me know and we can continue!
Excellent video! Thank you for uploading. With the M6 and SL2 having Bluetooth, can you also use a Bluetooth remote to start and stop videos and take pictures?
You are very welcome. Glad it was helpful. You can only control video remotely with the SL2. If you want to control video for a mirrorless camera, check out the M50 th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html
I can't decide!!!! I have gone back and forth on the Sl2 and M6 for weeks! I did notice something and wanted your opinion on it. Although the M6 makes you mount the mic to the side, it's completely out of the way of the monitor. Unlike the Sl2 where if you attach a mic AND use the monitor (lense side facing), the cord to the mic is in the way of it. Any thoughts on this? Or maybe a way around it. Because even if you found a mic that doesn't have an obnoxious chord, the flap/door to access the mic port would be in the way of the screen. Am I thinking way to much into this? Would it probably not bother as much as I'm thinking? Thanks!
Hi Courtney, thank you for watching! Alright, let's get to it. Fact: the mic cable on the SL2 my block some of the screen and is more of a "thing" you have to keep in mind. But it's certainly not a big deal if that's the camera you want. I don't actually watch myself in the monitor because I'm looking at the lens (otherwise it looks like I'm talking to someone else). It's more to make sure that I'm framed correctly, at which point, it's not really a problem. And as you mentioned, there is the flap/door thing in the way regardless. And all mics will have cords, even the wireless lav I use, because the receiver has to connect to the cameras. What are the other aspects that are impacting your choice?
I finally did decide on which one I wanted. I'm going with the M6. Biggest decision is that it goes from 9 (SL2) auto focus points to 45 (M6) of them. It's lighter, only by a tiny bit, but still lighter. And personally, I just love the set up of the M6. I'm moving to Guatemala and so I love how tiny and portable the M6 is. But still such an amazing camera jam-packed with everything I need PLUS upgrades from the camera I have now. (Rebel T3) Thank you so much for commenting back. I greatly appreciate it!
That's awesome Courtney!!! I'm confident that you'll be happy with your choice because it looks like you've put a lot of thought into it. "Moving to Guatemala" sounds amazing! Congrats. Thank you again for watching and leaving feedback. I appreciate the support when you could use the links in the description if possible. I would love to hear how this turned out for you once you get it. Again, congrats!!
Between M6 and 200D, are the video quality coming out the same, taking into account of bit rate and codex? What about their lenses system efm vs efs? I don’t want to use adapter. Are quality of images far apart or noticeable?
The quality would be similar. If I showed you 10 pictures and 10 clips, you wouldn't know which came from which camera. EF/EF-S lenses give you a lot more options. Sigma now makes 3 good ef-m lenses which is nice.
Is the video quality of M6 marginally less than SL2 or both of them are exactly same? Any downside of M6 if compared to SL2? Also is there any difference between the 2 in low light? Wich one is a better performer in low light?
Tech Gear Talk You’re always welcome!! Hope to see more reviews about Canon cameras and other Apple products too!! Your reviews have excellent cinematography with loads of content that can influence a lot of people and I wish this 2018 you’ll have more subscribers and more blessings for you and your channel. You honestly deserve it, sir!
Wow... those are wonderfully encouraging words. I am very grateful for you taking the time to share them with me. I will definitely review more cameras, including Canon and will try to add some Apple products in there too. My true hope is that these videos actually help people who are looking to buy. I get made fun of for how much research I do when I buy a product so I try to be pretty detailed in my reviews. Thank you for the kind wishes and blessings. I hope this is a fantastic year for you and the people you love.
Is it okay to buy M6? I'm not into blog or TH-cam. I just want to capture all the beautiful moments while I'm travelling and also suggest me a good and cheap lens. Suggest me other camera too, thank you :-)
The M6 is an AWESOME camera, so yes, it will work great for general use as well. Plus, it's super small so it will be great for travel. If you look at the description of this video: th-cam.com/video/r4pZQepv4r4/w-d-xo.html you will see links to the body + a 15-45mm (which I use in the review). That is a really good starting point. You can also check out the G7 X MKII th-cam.com/video/wiMSM7M2otQ/w-d-xo.html if you want something even smaller and don't need an external mic input, or interchangeable lenses. Let me know if you have any questions.
Let me do a little research. I have not reviewed any Fuji mirrorless cameras yet, but I will very soon. Right now I'm using a few of the newer Sony mirrorless cameras. If you're a subscriber to this channel you'll see those reviews come up soon and the Fuji ones later this year. What makes you want to go with Fuji?
I don't have a specific reason, the only thing is Fuji's body is classic and pretty much better. I just want to choose the best camera for me so it's better to have more option while choosing. Anyway thanks for replying and helping me out ☺️ I will ask again if there is something
That's cool I was just curious. Fuji was actually my first digital camera ever! Seems like it was so long ago :) The new Fuji's are really impressive, I can't wait to play around with them!!
What is the app you use to connect the SL2 with your phone? I recently got the SL2 and I am in the process of learning about it. My first camera. Thanks!!
New subscriber and credit where credit is due, your review was very complete and informative! I want to start vlogging, mainly outdoors and often windy so stabilisation and external audio is probably high on the list. - Does the G7XMkll have wind cancellation built in or is it not the same kind of reduction as an external mic.? - The SL2 doesn't have image stabiliser but does have a faster auto focus. With a 3 axis Gimbal does that equal or better image stabilisation? - How does the GoPro 6 compare with these 3 cameras.? - Do you notice the difference with weight of all 3 cameras?
Thank you so much for the kind words Derek! 1. if audio quality is important, and you don't plan on using an external recorder, get rid of the G7XMKII (I love that camera, but that is a weakness) 2. You're always going to want a 3 axis gimbal (if you can afford one). The in-body image stabilization in cameras is nowhere near as good as what the gimbal will provide. 3. no GoPro 4. Sure. The G7XMKII is so small and light. You'll definitely notice a difference. I would not get the M6 at this point but look at the M50 instead: th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html Does this help?
Tech Gear, that helps a lot! To be honest, your reviews to date are exactly what the beginner to intermediate (me) requires, so as to eliminate expensive mistakes!. Simple things like the external mic attached on the M6 but cant use the flip screen is a point we wouldn't consider until it is too late! I'm leaning towards the SL2, have already watched your in depth review. I especially like the fact that in the future, it is possible to insert a different lens and that total weight is still just 2lbs! Good shout regarding the Gimbal, which type would you recommend? Also what would you recommend for a wind reduction external mic.? I appreciate your fast response, keep the reviews coming! Have you done any video editing reviews yet? If so what do you use or recommend?
I'm glad. The SL2 video has some gimbals in the description. Also check out the MOZA Air or Air cross from Gudson. (I'll add links soon) As far a a mic, look at Rode and make sure you get a deadcat. The Rode VideoMic Pro+ is awesome if it's in your budget. If you want to wait a few days, I'm reviewing their whole line of videomics and will publish soon. Video editing reviews? Do you mean software?
Hi!! Im a beginner and can’t decide between the SL2 and M6. I will be mainly using the camera for travel photos and videos, as well as taking pics of my son playing baseball. I like taking pics indoors as well. Leaning more towards the SL2 but still not 100% on it. Please advise?? Thanks so much!!
I wouldn't get the M6 anymore, and would recommend looking at the M50: th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html (it's a better value) Here is a comparison with the SL2: th-cam.com/video/JIb30UZKmkY/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hi!! I actually ended up with the M50! Thanks so much for your suggestion! From M6 to SL2 and then finally to the M50! I am such a newbie that Im still using it on Auto (gasp) lol. Need to learn so much... Ill need to rewatch your M50 vids! 😊
Thanks for the great review. These are the 3 cameras I've been looking at for Video and pictures. Lack of mic port drops the G7 out of the running. I'm really torn between the M6 and SL2. SL2 gets a slight edge because I don't need an adapter for other lenses in the future, view screen angles, and not blocking the top mount. M6 i like better for the size but the advantages of the SL2 are hard to overlook. SL2 wins for me (unless I get the 77D) I only want one camera but these are tough decisions!
Thank you so much! I love the process you're going through right now. You are thinking of a lot of things that most people overlook. I appreciate how thoughtful you are being. I really love the SL2, it's super hard to beat for the price. What will you use it for?
I'm not much of a picture taker but I want to do some vlogs and pictures of my travels. SL2 I think is the best starter for me. I can always get a high end camera later if I think I really need it but the SL2 is ideal for what I need right now. By the time I'm ready to upgrade 4k will be on all of the Canon cameras and it will be a more useful upgrade.
That's a great strategy. Plus, you'll be able to re-use the lenses so you'll only be upgrading the body. Thank you again for watching and supporting the channel. Let me know if you have any questions.
i am up to buy a camera g7x or sl2 . not a fan of vlogging want to make shortfilms not interested investing changing lenses for atleast 1 year but i do want the best camera for shortfims with best detailed ... Do you think i should go for sl2 with kit lens or g7x ??
one of the best comparisons in youtube. things should be discussed more in this video: lenses performances, G7x got a fast lenses which is incredible for low light even better than most lenses we can buy from M6 and SL2. for M6, you can use EF-M lenses. Focus peaking only available in M6 and G7x
Thank you very much for the kind words. OUTSTANDING point regarded lens performance. I'm pretty sure I discuss it in the detailed review but it was definitely something I should have mentioned here. For this price point having a 1.8 - 2.8 lens is killer. To your point, lenses that would compare to that, for the SL2 would be out of the range of the budget for most users would buy that camera. Focus peaking is also a good point and definitely a feature I did not mention. I SO VERY MUCH appreciate your feedback!! It's the only way I can make better reviews. Thank you for taking the time. What do you use?
I got a G7xm2 and a 600d and planning to buy a new m6/sl2/t7i. For those who do not need an external mic while vlogging, g7x series is really a fantastic choice. M6 does have some advantages when it comes to lenses, size, weight and portability compared to dslr, the focus peaking maybe quite useful when it comes to manual lenses too. However when it comes to video quality, nothing compared to your C100 M2 4k. :) For a complete package, i guess i have to wait until Canon hit 4k in their consumer markets maybe 2019/2020.
I also think the g7X is a great option if you don't need an external mic. It's so compact, you can easily throw it in your pocket and go anywhere. And I do believe that most people won't need other lenses (maybe it would be nice to go a little wider for handheld, but you can always hold a small tripod to add a little distance. Do you think 4k is that important? I think it may still be 5 years away from being widely used.
Yea a little wider does help a lot for most vloggers but they are usually very slow lenses that may not be that ideal for low light videography. I don't think 4k will be that widely used anytime soon in consumer level because most flagships smartphones are still 1080p/1440p. It will take like you mentioned 5-10 years for majority of people to jump into the 4k boat. However, 4k is quite important for mid to high end productions, you can crop and spilt shots, the professional look just cannot be done without 4k. I think you got a lot of potential to be a big tech reviewer in the future. Your in-depth reviews are really helpful for potential buyers like me. One thing I would definitely like to see are footages comparisons (mainly video quality ,audio quality and low light performances) between the cameras.
Great comparison video. Clean format, organized (nice temporary sidebar outline) where I can fast forward to points of interest, and big fan of the insight of the stuff that's NOT written - how the canon app changes interaction with camera's operation was valuable for me.
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment. I'm very happy that the video provided value to you. Thank you for the feedback regarding the sidebar outline, I wasn't sure how people feel about it so it's great to get feedback. I'm unsure as to why the app does work the same way for call cameras, hopefully Canon will fix that. Which one was the best fit for you?
I like the size of the G7X mkII but the SL2's audio in jack and larger sensor with fully articulated screen are more compelling. Truthfully I could make both work, but still researching audio options (not sure I'm sold on the Rode VideoMicPro / Shure VP83 - I like the richness of typical shotgun, yet I've discovered the super/hyper cardiod condensers may be better suited for indoor recording minimizing ambience/echo... Then again, I enjoy many YT videos that use the Rode). Other note: While sidebar is nice, I much prefer time stamps listed in the description so the outline is readily visible and I can just go straight to the information I need.
Adding timestamps in the description is SUCH A GOOD IDEA!!!! I will definitely do that. I agree with your assessment of the mic choices and ultimately audio is subjective and so much of it has to do with post production processing. The only way to find out is to try something out and hear the results. You're right, I think that for someone with the level of knowledge you're exhibiting in your comments, the SL2 is a better choice. You'll outgrow the G7X MKII and wish you had the upgraded sensor and mic input. When you end up making a purchase, let me know how it works out for you. Thanks again for the timestamp idea!
You're welcome! I'm primarily looking to invest in quality gear with as much high returns in the investment without spending too much. Also I think I'm more in the camp of wanting to create with a workflow that's simple in efficiency. I don't want to spend hours editing and changing settings to correct color and etc - I'd rather just invest in a great mic and camera and editing program where I can film, edit within predictable time frame, and then upload with confidence. In fact, I don't think there's enough workflow videos for prospective viewers. Lot of camera reviews and comparisons, but not enough workflows that suit guys like me.
I'm completely aligned with you. You have to remove as much friction from the production/editing process as possible. Anything else is just an unnecessary obstacle. I started a series designed to help creators and will continue with it when I have time. I have not gotten to the actual process yet because I think strategy goes first. If you have time, check it out. th-cam.com/play/PL9Y8hNm43poKsaMfWacWrJwVzT2BpYNxJ.html It's directed at TH-camrs but the concepts apply to any creative process
Very informative comparison video and well presented. I have a question if you can answer please... Do any of the cameras have the feature to shoot panoramic photos?
Hi Gabby. Here is my review of the M6, check out the description for the mount: th-cam.com/video/r4pZQepv4r4/w-d-xo.html Here is a video that will help you pick the right mic: th-cam.com/video/hE84RCziiv8/w-d-xo.html Hope these are helpful.
Great comparison, building nicely on the original in depth reviews. I’m curious about how you rigged the jobs tripod/flash plate on the M6. Mine refuses to lock out without something between the jobs and the extension plate.? Second question, what are you capturing your footage on with all three in your hands? How does that setup compare? For me, the M6 was my first choice - just better bang for the money compared to the gx7 . Sl2 wasn’t out and I added an 80d to the mix. ( be great to see you review the m6, 80d and 6D mark 2 as a level up.... and then the 6d2 , 5d4 and a 1dx2 at the premium end...😁
Hi Peter. Thanks for the feedback. I start out by putting the mic on the flash plate so that I know how much space I have to work with. Then, I attach the Joby plate to the bottom of the other screw on the bracket (the one that slides). It has a 1/4 20 socket on the bottom. Then I put the M6 on and tighten it, then put it on the Joby. AND I just realized how easy this would be to show you in a video so please let me know if that made any sense at all! I capture footage with a couple of C100MKIIs. It doesn't really compare to be honest. I'd be putting up cinema cameras with lenses that cost more than any of the setups in that review with a small DLSR and 2 mirrorless cameras. So it's just not fair. At the same time, the setup I use is not portable or light. I would be super annoyed if I had to drag it around with me. The tripods are heavy, so are the cameras and the lenses. So they aren't really meant for the same use. I'll tell you what, I would love to have dual-pixel autofocus with tracking, but I would need to upgrade to C200s.... so.... unless 2 of those fall out of the sky... The M6 is a great choice for sure. I'll see if I can get my hands on the cameras you mentioned as I continue to add reviews this year. Again, as always, I very much appreciate the feedback 🙏
Good review. What camera did you use to record this review & what settings if possible? Your image comes out very crisp and clear on my 48in OLED. Many thanks.
I use a Canon C100 MK II and I'll have to do a video about my settings if I get enough Subscribers that are interested. I'm super glad that the image looks good on such a large screen!!! Thank you for letting me know and for the kind words!!
Tech Gear Talk - Thanks for your prompt reply. Interesting that you shoot with the C100 II. Can you also tell me what 'picture profile' you use on the camera? Thanks again.
You are very welcome. Why do you say that (strange)? The picture profile depends on my settings. Sometimes it's standard and sometimes it's Wide DR. I rarely use a custom one for TH-cam. What do you shoot with?
Tech Gear Talk - Much appreciate your feedback. I use the same camera but don't get a clean image like yours. Hence the questioning (strange!). I use Canon C-Log and grade in post. However for your purposes I guess time is of essence and it would take most of your time in post which you don't want to do. You're doing a great job by the way. I'm always on the look out for good content and great clean picture... which is what took my interest in the first place. Look forward to seeing more of your interesting reviews. Many thanks.
That is strange... what lenses are you using? Agree with you re: spending too much time grading in post Thank you for the input! I am still learning and trying new things with this channel so I'm super happy to see that there is positive reaction to where I am now.
Hi, I just got a M6. I can connect it to a Mac and download the images using Canon EOS Utility. However, I can't find the remote shooting function in the new EOS Utility 3. There seems to be no way to control the camera from a computer via USB. I also tried the EOS utility 2, which looks more like the old EOS utility, but it wouldn't even recognize the M6. If this is the case, it's a step backward considering that a old EOS 7D can be operated remotely. Any ideas? I am still hoping that I may be doing something wrong.
Hi! Thanks so much for this video, it’s really helpful, well explained, and with an understandable and easy going English (since I’m from Argentina, I really appreciate it 😍😬). I would like to ask you some tips: I want to buy my first good or semiprofessional camera right now. I want to start with professional photography, I never used a reflex and I herad that the SL2 (200D here.I am in China right now🤪) is a very good option for starting. I don’t want to use it for vlogs, I’m interested in photography and for small videos production, like record some musical duos, thinks like that. I really like the M6 size and the retro sthetic, but... SL2 is better camera, right? And still small...What do you think? Thanks a lot in advance, you have already help me with this video. 😘
So glad the video is helpful. A few things. First, check out this video for another option instead of the M6 th-cam.com/video/JIb30UZKmkY/w-d-xo.html Once you watch it, let talk about your options.
Hey man another great video, as I have an old M model I look forward to updating it to the M6. I don't need a dslr for what I do and I can recycle the lenses. An awesome review and the only drawback of the M6 is not having remote video, but I get by now on the M without that or a flip screen. Thanks for always keeping things simple.
Thanks Mark!!! I really hope that this is something they can do with an app upgrade, I just don't see how it would be a hardware restriction. Although, I don't build cameras for a living :D
I'm so glad i found this video. I didn't realize the limitation of video control with the M6 when using the Canon connect app. Do you know if the M100 has the same video functionality on the app as the SL2? I was planing on getting the M100 but if it also has the limitations on the app for video control, i will get the SL2. Great channel.
Glad the review was helpful. I don't know about the M100 because I haven't played around with it yet (if you forced me to guess, I would guess no....) If that's a critical feature for you than I would go with the Sl2. I still can't believe they left that out. SMH. Thank you for the compliment about the channel. I'm just starting out so I'm happy to see that it's being valuable. What will you use the camera for?
I may decide to go with the M100 due to its very compact size even if it lacks the video control features on the app. I hope you get a chance to review the M100, i would love to see your thought on it. The SL2 still may be the one i go with seeing how it is also a pretty small body as well. And then there is the new M50 to consider as well. I want to make videos that will mostly be me in a controlled setting in front of the camera taking a look at statues and art pieces, but i also attend a lot of conventions and shows that i thought the smaller size of the M100 would be more convenient for shooting video on the go.
That makes sense to me. The SL2 is still pretty small but of course, not as small as the M6 or M100 of course but it's not bad. The M50 looks awesome, 4K will be nice, but 120fps is only at 720P.... I need to start an online collection box so that I can buy these cameras to review them :D
Hey there!!! I have a question to you... im confused if i buy the m6 or the sl2... In portugal its 200D WTV HAHAHA so my question is...wich one is better for nature photograph (and pearsons 2) and cinematic videos also in nature? obvius the photos and videos would be edited at lightroom.
Hi, thanks for watching. The SL2 is a better camera if you're simply looking at image quality. It has a larger sensor and it can use much better lenses. Now, that is only talking about what it "could" do. Then it comes down to the user. Are you going to buy those better lenses and do you (at this point) know how to use it well enough to justify the increase in price (of the body + better lenses). What the SL2 lets you do is buy a body and then slowly start buying lenses. Then, when (if) you are ready in a few years, you can buy a better body and keep using the same lenses (I use lenses from 10 years ago still). I hope this helps.
Tech Gear Talk thank you so much for the help... In Portugal we call it 200D... Its much cheaper than the m6... I went to this site cameradecision.com/search and compared the m6 to the sl2 and at some points it says that the m6 is better so I was thinking if the difference of the price would worth it or not... But yeah you are very right about the lenses part... But you worked with those 2 cameras, the sl2 + 18-55mm as a better quality image and vídeo? The 18-55mm comes with stabilization?
First, I made a mistake. I mis-read what you wrote (I was talking about G7XMKII vs SL2). Technically, you can use the same lenses with the M6 and the SL2 (the M6 would require an adapter). I wouldn't count on websites like the one you mentioned, they are simply comparing specs which has nothing to do with real-life use of the camera (unless the discrepancy is huge) Those are 2 really nice camera. I would actually get the M50 over the M6 (th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html) and there are some great deal on it now. Yes, you'll have in-lens IS (image stabilization) but don't forget that we're talking about fairly minor stabilization. For best results, for video, you'll want a 3-axis gimbal (there are some links in the description). Sorry for the confusion.
Question, Since G7x is a point n shoot. Is it still categorized as mirrorless? Excuse my ignorance but I always thought there was 3 types; DSLR Mirrorless Point n shoot
Tech Gear Talk Thanks for your response. I apologise, I by no means was netpicking! I honestly wanted to clarify. I love the video! Great content and very informative! Liking and subscribing.
Thank you so much!! This is a new channel and not a lot of people know about it yet, so I really appreciate the support! No worries at all. People get all touchy online. I like when someone points things out like this. I know, that I don't know everything. And even when it's something I know, I make mistakes. We're all here to learn and share info. Which did you like best?
I totally agree with you! I'd say this is the best comparison vidoe I've watched so far and it included all the great cameras that are under my budget. I would have loved Sony's RX100 Mrk5 to be in there but again, I love Canon the most. Among the three cameras, I love SL2 the most, however, for portability purposes, I think I am leaning towards the Canon M6.. I would miss out, but it would be a lot easier for me to carry around especially with the region I am in. It would be more socially acceptable to have the M6!
You bring up such a good point. The best camera is the one you have with you. No spec or features matters if you end up leaving the camera at home!! People are always asking about the "the best" but for me it comes down to how you use it. That will determine what is best for you. I really like that you have already understood that. It will make your search a lot easier. I LOVE the M6. It's small, powerful, and if it's more acceptable socially, that's a big point. Where are you located?
As always I appreciate an awesome review, usage and features of all the cameras you mentioned. Amazing! i bought a canon g9x ii vs the g7x ii since the price difference is so big and for my needs I would be happy with the g9xii. i might pick up sl2 in the future. :) thanks again.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm really glad this was helpful to you. How do you like the G9Xii? Thank you again for watching and hopefully subscribing!
it's a complicated question because of the difference in sensor size. You would have to divide by the crop factor. Essentially, at the same "aperture number" the G7xmkii is getting less light. (crop factor is 2.73 for g7xmkii and 1.6 for m6
So with the sl2 , I can upload video straight from the camera to TH-cam without transferring to laptop ? And in app mode for phone when recording it also saves to phone ?
@@TechGearTalk gotcha but the camera links to your phone through the app so after recording you can upload the videos to your phone from the camera that way with no middle source such as a laptop?
Thank you so much for this amazing video. It truly helped a lot to make a decision. I was looking at the 3 and with all you said I think the best that suits me is the M6 ☺️totally. I like how small it is and I can change the lens.
You are very welcome! I'm really happy that it helped you make a decision. You're going to LOVE the M6,. Like you said, it's small, you have the flexibility of interchangeable lenses and the dual pixel AF is so good! I'm still new at this and I very much appreciate the feedback! Will you be using it for your channel?
Ah ok, I'm working on a video for that. I would look at the EF-M 22mm f/2 or the 32mm 1.4 because they open really wide. My video will have a lot more info.
I'm so glad that it was helpful. It's something that I didn't know until I had the cameras in my hand and I didn't want people to find out once it's too late. I super appreciate the sub and you taking the time to leave feedback! Which camera wins for you?
Tech Gear Talk i don't own any camera so it would be my first camera purchase. I have been going back and forth with these 2 and the simple Canon powershot sx730 hs.
Ok, cool. In terms of image quality, they will be very similar, so here are a few differentiators. The SL2 is bigger, it can accept both EF(nicer and larger) and EF-S lenses, it has a viewfinder, has a microphone input and can do timelapse The M100 is smaller and more portable, has more focus points for photography (may or may not really matter depending on how you shoot) Overall the SL2 is a more complete camera, but the M100 is smaller and more portable. Which is more important to you?
Wow I thought mirrorless was no flip screen for viewing yourself while filming😂😂 I need to watch alittle more TH-cam I guess. Thanks for clearing that up.
The review is absolutely great! It hits the key spots, not only the well-known specs. Thank you so much! P.S.: if you have time to answer the comments, it would be great to learn if there is a really huge gap between the low-light performance of G7X II and SL2 + Kit (18-55). My aim is mostly macro video shooting in not always good light conditions, and i'm really afraid of too much noise if i choose the SL2...
Thank you so much for the kind comments. Are you more worried about low-light with the SL2 than the G7XMKii? The SL2 has a larger sensor (better at low light) and will allow you to get better macro lenses (of course they are very expensive)
Tech Gear Talk Thank you so much for your reply! I do understand that 1.8 or even 2.8 lenses will save me but the question is exactly about how drastically the G7X II is better than the DL2 !with the Kit lense! in low light. Is there a HUGE gap?
I would look at the m50 over the M6 th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html If you want options for better audio, the m50 is better than the g7xmkii. If you want ultimate portability and an all-in-one system g7xmkii is hard to beat.
Hi, amazing video with love from India I am confused between Canon G7x ii and M6. I need a camera for vlogging and I am torn between the two because of the aperture, Since G7X has 1.8 and the kit lens of M6 offers 3.5 Help me out
Thank you for the comment. A few things. 1. the G7X is a 1.8 - 2.8 which means the aperture will be somewhere between these 2 numbers depending on focal length. The M6 offers interchangeable lenses, so technically the 3.5 is the widest aperture of the kit lens that I used, but you can get lenses with a wider aperture than that. 2. The impact of aperture is also a function of the sensor size, so it's not quite as simple as comparing the numbers. The M6 will require less light to get the same exposure. So you also have to multiple the aperture by the crop factor to make a more fair comparison. Have you looked at the M50? Do you want an external microphone?
Tech Gear Talk Yeah I have the thing is I’m getting G7X and M6 for the same price so just confused between the two and unable to decide, I’ll be fairly starting out fresh but then a lil better production since the starting won’t hurt much The only reason I’m considering G7X is because of the aperture otherwise M6 wins for me because of future capabilities and the fact it’s relatively a new camera and Dual AF is just a cherry on the cake.
The G7X is so small and portable. What I love about it is that you can literally take it anywhere! However, if you want better production value, at some point you will want an external microphone for better audio. Dual Pixel AF is SO NICE!!
You're very welcome Mike! The SL2 is a great camera to add to the G7XMKII. It's bigger, of course, but uses better lenses, has an external mic input, larger sensor, etc. What do you use your cameras for? Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing!
🤔. The way you explain each detail makes me rethink either M6 or SL2. Auto focus on both cameras look great. I have a Rebel T3 but no display that comes out. I prolly go with M6 cuz it’s smaller. Thank your the info.
I'm glad it was helpful Adam. The M6 is a great camera and I think you'll be happy with how small and powerful it is. What do you plan on using it for?
not necessarily if in the event I have to vlog at night. its more of a travel camera that I don't have I use my phone which has limited mem and limited bat life and the quality of video and pics has so much noise.
yes, that is because of the small sensor on the phone. I would recommend that if you record at night, just make sure there is enough light. Otherwise, the SL2 and M6 will do better than the G7X but the G7X will do better than your phone.
Tech Gear Talk hymmm make sense your a great help thank you very much. You really are a Canon endorser, does.nikon has the same category with m6 or g7xmk2?
How would you compare T7i with SL2? Which one you think is better? I know what your question would be "what I ask using it for?" :) For images and videos... Just want the best image and video out of the two with best feature. Thanks
The T7i is a "better" camera. It has additional focus points for images and in-camera image stabilization. It's bigger and heavier, but if that doesn't matter to you, i'll be happy.
Great review, I think I know exactly what to do. Have you heard anything about an updated g7x mark iii? I’m not sure if I should prolong my purchase in order to wait and see?
What's up everyone! I wanted to put this video together to help people decide between the Canon M6, SL2 and G7 X Mark II. Let me know what you think about this video and the format. Which features do you like and which are not important to you. I'm super interested in which of these cameras you think would be best for you and why. Grateful for your feedback as well, good or bad.
Tech Gear Talk I’m torn between g7x and sl2
Hi Elvie, thank you for watching.
Alright, so let's start with the basics, what will you be using the camera for?
Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/PuE6wADvnAY/w-d-xo.html It's an early one that I created so I'm sorry if I talk a little slow :)
As far as interchangeable lenses, it's not so confusing once you learn the basics, BUT, it is more expensive.
This has been the best breakdown of these 3 cameras I have found after searching for days. Great job and thank you! Exactly what I was looking for
Oh, wow, thanks for that awesome comment James. I'm so glad it was helpful. Wasn't sure if it was too much detail or not. Which did you choose?
Grateful 🙏
Tech Gear Talk keep up the good work! Subbed
Thank you James!!
Just bought the M6 after watching your review. Thanks for doing this followup too!
Congrats and you are very welcome! Have you started using it already?
Some features of the G7XM2 that are rarely talked about:
1. Built-in 3-stop ND filter; helps you shoot wide open for better bokeh even in broad daylight
2. Spiral leaf shutter (YES!); gets you a flash sync speed of 1/2000 second, great for daylight or evening HSS shots
3. BSI-CMOS Sensor; Coupled with the fast F1.8 lens, gives unbeatable lowlight performance
It does have cons like low contrast (compared to the APS-C lineup) and a weird greenish white balance that comes as default.
VERY solid points. Thank you so much for taking the time to contribute.
People who understand, appreciate the built in nd filter so much. In my C100mkii I use it all the time.
Can I ask you where you read that the g7xm2 has the Spiral leaf shutter?
@@raspberry5286 . I was curious too. I read it on a DP forum. From what I read you can tell by the flash sync speed of 1/2000 for the g7x mk ii has a leaf shutter and 1/200 for the SL2 has a focal plane shutter. The Sony a6300 flash sync speed is 1/160. G1X MK III is 1/2000. Focal plane shutters can't sync flash at fast speeds but the manuals don't say leaf or focal plane so its confusing.
@@floridahiker1503 The flash sync is a nice
observation indeed, I hadn't thought about it.
One of the best camera reviews I've ever seen. Thank you!
Oh wow, thanks so much Armen. Which one did you like best?
@@TechGearTalk I'm still thinking: probably the Canon M6 but I need to figure out if I'm going to use the external microphone or record the sound separately with my ATR 2500. If don't need the microphone I'll go with the G7 X Mark II.
I would also look at the M50 (th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html) if you're considering the M6. One thing I'll tell you from experience. Even if you don't always plan on recording audio with an external microphone, there will probably come a time when you will wish you could. Make sure you plan ahead.
I feel like I just got an important lesson on how cameras work haha. Thanks for making this helpful video! I think I might go for the m6!
You're very welcome Alison. The M6 is a sweet camera and will work great for your vlogging-style channel. I'm glad the video was helpful.
Was there anything else you wish I would have covered?
Dude. You literally covered pretty much everything! Haha
Oh, but actually I do have a question.
Let me know what you think after you watch it. I have some other ideas for you too, regardless of which camera you get.
Man what a great comprehensive review! I just ordered the sl2 and went through just about every option you just discussed but not nearly as organized...lol. Thanks for doing that and a perfect explanation of what slr cameras do.
Oh wow, thank you so much Joe, I really appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback!
What do you plan on using the SL2 for?
I would super appreciate you supporting the channel when you buy the camera, if that is possible :)
What external mic do you use?
SimplyBeingSabrina Did you end up getting the SL2?
This is, by far the best comparison review I have seen!
Oh wow... thank you so much. Super humbled!
Thank you for leaving feedback (and hopefully subscribing)
The best comparison video I have watched so far, thank you.
Oh wow - so glad it was helpful!
Tech Gear Talk Yeah I actually bring it along now when I’m just out and about. Cheers!
Right on! What do you usually shoot?
Tech Gear Talk I shoot Weddings full time with my wife and shoot a lot of landscapes 👍🏻
Oh fun!
This is the exact video I was looking for providing exactly the information I needed. Subscribed!
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave feedback. Appreciate your Sub too!!
You are one of the best tech reviewers on youtube!
Btw, you made a really good point when talking about the specs not telling the whole story (external mic blocking the selfie screen) and I like that you offered a work-around with the alternative mount. This video was so thorough and thought out. Really good job, man! ✌😎
Oh wow Dennis, thank you so much 🙏🏻
Glad the video was helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback.
Wow... been watching a lot of camera reviews lately and can confidently say that this is one of the best reviews I've seen - clear, unbiased and in-depth. Hope your channel continued to grow 🙏🏻 Keep up the good work!!
I’m super glad that this review was helpful.
Thank you so much for the support!!
oh my this video is exactly what im looking for im torn between m6 and sl2
Awesome! So glad it's being helpful. Would love to know what you think after you finish watching!
i think i lean more on the m6 as i will ne using the camera for travel i also like the interchangeable lens on it.. i researched the lenses for eos m and it only offers a few, but with the additional one inch adapter it opens up the option to choose from ef/ef-s lens.. also i dont think that i will miss the view finder that much though if i get more serious on photography i might be needing one but for now i'll be fine without it.
Glad this video was helpful. Looking forward to the mk iii
Thank you SO MUCH for this! I was completely torn and having difficulty comparing the M6 & G7. This seriously saved me from driving myself even more insane deciding between the two 😂
I'm really glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for the kind words and hopefully the Sub!
Which did you decide to get?
Best review ! Very clear now about the difference of their features
I'm super glad it was helpful! Thank you for the kind words and for being part of the community 🙏
Hey man, I'm from Brazil, and you are far one of the best TH-camrs ever!
Oh wow... thank you so much. Glad you like the videos and appreciate you participating in the community.
this was such a helpful video. I was confused about buying the sl2 for the longest time. This cleared up a lot of my questions. Thanks. Keep the great content coming!
Aditya, I'm so glad that this video was helpful. I'm just starting out so I really appreciate the feedback. What did you end up deciding?
Sure. Trying them hands-on first makes sense. Looking forward to those reviews. Thank you so much and all the best. :)
You're welcome. Have a great weekend.
I love this comparison video. Also when you said specs don't tell the story. Got the M6 and cannot wait to start playing around with it. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for the compliment.
You are very welcome!! Glad it was helpful and hope you love your new camera!!
The g7x is a point and shoot not a mirrorless
That's absolutely correct. I realized that I misspoke but it was too late.
Which did you like the best?
Well, it IS mirrorless but it’s just not an ILC or CSC.
This was incredibly helpful. Tons of info without talking down to people
Really glad it was helpful. Which one did you like the best?
I had the SL2 but I ended up selling it and ordered the G7 X Mark II. Wanted something without interchangeable lenses yet with DSRL features. I’m getting it in a few days. Can’t wait. ☺️
Oh nice! Let me k ow how it works out
YOU CRUSHED THIS REVIEW. I'm buying an SL2 once I complete my move.
Nice!!! That’s a solid pickup!
@@TechGearTalk I was looking all over the internet with all of these cameras in my Amazon cart just trying to see if I could see an objective comparison. Everything on your channel is so top notch in terms of quality, friend. Thank you so, so much for what you do!
I really appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback! Glad that you find it helpful!
Such a great review!! Just bought SL2 ❤ cant wait!!! You explain everything so good!!! 👍👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful and congrats!! If you want more about that camera, here is my SL2 playlist: th-cam.com/play/PL9Y8hNm43poKzHUQ-5DoPGtTfUm5s_khH.html Hope it's helpful. Let me know if you have any questions.
@@TechGearTalk great!! Thanks again!! 😊
You’re very welcome
This is an AWESOME video. So much information and so well laid out. Perfect pace. Definitely going with the SL2. Wish I would have found this info before I ended up with my current DSLR. I guess we all live and learn. Thanks for much for the great content! New sub.
You're very welcome. I really appreciate your feedback.
What did you end up getting?
@@TechGearTalk No problem. :) I'm definitely going to end up with the SL2. The more research I do on it the more I'm sold. It just offers so many great features and so much versatility.
I completely agree with you, it's a great beginner DSLR. So many features at such a good price. Did you see my full review of it?
@@TechGearTalk Yes I did. That's how I ended up here actually. You'd think it would be the other way around. Lol. But I totally agree. It seems very user friendly. Keep up the great reviews!!
That's awesome, glad you found it regardless, and that it was helpful.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you again for the feedback, I super appreciate it 🙏
Subscribed! Best review I have found here. After watching this I went for the M6. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate the support and kind words. The M6 is so good. Let me know what you think when you get it. What do you plan on using it for.
would the m6 give me better video quality over my sl2? or would it just be minimal? (i already have a sigma 18-35 lens)
Wow. Such a comprehensive review. Best on TH-cam
Oh wow, thanks so much!!! Which did you like best?
@@TechGearTalk I'm going to go for the SL2
That's a great choice. Have you looked at the M50 also? th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html
Does the M6 show you a preview on the screen before you shoot as you change settings? Thanks!!
The M6 uses the liveview at all times since there is no viewfinder (you can buy an electronic view finder if you want one). So you're always seeing a preview of what it would look like and the settings you selected.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.
Glad it was helpful!!
Another great options is: th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html (similar but better than the M6)
Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing!
Tech Gear Talk i already subscribe to your channel !!! 🤗
Thank you for your support!!
Thanks for your response, I have created a short video to show you the shine, And the camera that I use, th-cam.com/video/iCqmn0qn9Wc/w-d-xo.html
If you need help understanding exposure, check this out: th-cam.com/video/PuE6wADvnAY/w-d-xo.html
I made it for photography but the same holds true for video.
@@TechGearTalk Thanks!
You’re very welcome Scott!
Very helpful video sir with great examples 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Really glad this video helped you out.
(Rebel T3)
Thank you so much for commenting back.
@@TechGearTalk Thanks for quick reply. I lean towards M6 for travel vlog. But not sure should I sell efs system and start to invest in efm or not.
You can get the adapter and use your EFS lenses
Is the video quality of M6 marginally less than SL2 or both of them are exactly same? Any downside of M6 if compared to SL2?
Also is there any difference between the 2 in low light? Wich one is a better performer in low light?
I don’t have a comparison with the M6 because I upgraded to the m50. Here is that comparison. th-cam.com/video/XEhsU-aEX04/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for talking about these cameras! Happy New Year!

You’re always welcome!!
Thank you so much bro 😊
Can you suggest me any good fujifilm's mirrorless camera of the same range ☺️
Let me do a little research. I have not reviewed any Fuji mirrorless cameras yet, but I will very soon. Right now I'm using a few of the newer Sony mirrorless cameras. If you're a subscriber to this channel you'll see those reviews come up soon and the Fuji ones later this year.
What makes you want to go with Fuji?
I don't have a specific reason, the only thing is Fuji's body is classic and pretty much better.
I just want to choose the best camera for me so it's better to have more option while choosing.
Anyway thanks for replying and helping me out ☺️
I will ask again if there is something
That's cool I was just curious. Fuji was actually my first digital camera ever!
Seems like it was so long ago :)
The new Fuji's are really impressive, I can't wait to play around with them!!
Great Review, Thanks.
What camera did you use to shoot this Video?
Thank you 🙏. I used two Canon C100mkII
What is the app you use to connect the SL2 with your phone? I recently got the SL2 and I am in the process of learning about it. My first camera. Thanks!!
Congrats!! You use the Canon Camera Connect app.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for watching (and hopefully the Sub)
Tech Gear Talk Thanks again !! I will subscribe to keep updated with the tech stuff. Your reviews are really nice. Keep it up ✌
Super grateful!!
1. if audio quality is important, and you don't plan on using an external recorder, get rid of the G7XMKII (I love that camera, but that is a weakness)
2. You're always going to want a 3 axis gimbal (if you can afford one). The in-body image stabilization in cameras is nowhere near as good as what the gimbal will provide.
3. no GoPro
4. Sure. The G7XMKII is so small and light. You'll definitely notice a difference.
I would not get the M6 at this point but look at the M50 instead: th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html
Does this help?
(I'll add links soon)
As far a a mic, look at Rode and make sure you get a deadcat. The Rode VideoMic Pro+ is awesome if it's in your budget. If you want to wait a few days, I'm reviewing their whole line of videomics and will publish soon.
Video editing reviews? Do you mean software?
Thanks for reply Tech Gear, yes I meant the software to edit the videos ready for uploading to TH-cam or similar.
There are several great options. I use Premiere Pro.
Are you on a Mac or PC? Looking for Paid or Free?
Debating between
1) a6400
2) rx100 mark vii
3) canon eos m6 mark ii
Any advice?
Really hard decision.
What will you use it for?
Informative and useful. Thanks dude! You did a huge work!
Glad it was useful Alex! Appreciate the kind words 🙏
Do you think the SL2 is a good buy instead of the Canon Rebel 7ti or even the SL3? Please let me know if you can
Great question. See if this video answers it: th-cam.com/video/MKwAWWyv9vU/w-d-xo.html
So glad, hope you love it. I'm working on tutorials for the M50. They are coming soon!
Loving the camera so far! Looking forward to your tutorial vids! Thanks again!
So happy to hear that :)
Jeff Dubworth .
i am up to buy a camera g7x or sl2 .
not a fan of vlogging
want to make shortfilms
not interested investing changing lenses for atleast 1 year
but i do want the best camera for shortfims with best detailed ...
Do you think i should go for sl2 with kit lens
or g7x ??
The SL2 will let you build and add lenses later. You will also have the option to use an external microphone (either now or in the future).
one of the best comparisons in youtube. things should be discussed more in this video: lenses performances, G7x got a fast lenses which is incredible for low light even better than most lenses we can buy from M6 and SL2. for M6, you can use EF-M lenses.
Thank you again, I had a similar sense about the footage. I will make sure I do more of that! Audio and low-light performance are great ideas!
Best review ever 👌 Thanks
So glad it was helpful!
Thank you for watching and for the feedback. I am not 100% confident but I have not been able to find that feature in any of these.
Thanks for the clarification.
You are very welcome. Which one of these do you like best?
Hi! I recently purchased the M6 and I was curious as to where I can find a mount mic adapter since I am interested in using a mic. Thanks (:
Hi Gabby. Here is my review of the M6, check out the description for the mount: th-cam.com/video/r4pZQepv4r4/w-d-xo.html
Here is a video that will help you pick the right mic: th-cam.com/video/hE84RCziiv8/w-d-xo.html
Hope these are helpful.
Agree with you re: spending too much time grading in post
Thank you for the input! I am still learning and trying new things with this channel so I'm super happy to see that there is positive reaction to where I am now.
Little question : how did you connect all the PCs behind you ? And what PC is it (brand and all) :)
Hi. I have a really old video showing this setup th-cam.com/video/zf5pFMNHEsc/w-d-xo.html
Thanks so much for watching
Hi, I just got a M6. I can connect it to a Mac and download the images using Canon EOS Utility. However, I can't find the remote shooting function in the new EOS Utility 3. There seems to be no way to control the camera from a computer via USB. I also tried the EOS utility 2, which looks more like the old EOS utility, but it wouldn't even recognize the M6. If this is the case, it's a step backward considering that a old EOS 7D can be operated remotely. Any ideas? I am still hoping that I may be doing something wrong.
I wonder if it's the same thing I ran into here: th-cam.com/video/qK3lFZemX9I/w-d-xo.html (is it for both photography and video?)
Hello sir,can G7x mark ii give good background blur in video recording?
Great video and a lot of useful information. Thank you!
Super grateful for the feedback!
Always Helpfull! Thanks!
Thank you brother!
First, check out this video for another option instead of the M6 th-cam.com/video/JIb30UZKmkY/w-d-xo.html
Once you watch it, let talk about your options.
This all I need Thank you so much! Love the videos as always!!
You are very welcome, I'm glad you're able to get the info you need. Happy New Year!
Tech Gear Talk Happy New Year aswell!
thank you!
I don't know about the M100 because I haven't played around with it yet (if you forced me to guess, I would guess no....)
If that's a critical feature for you than I would go with the Sl2.
I wouldn't count on websites like the one you mentioned, they are simply comparing specs which has nothing to do with real-life use of the camera (unless the discrepancy is huge)
Those are 2 really nice camera.
Tech Gear Talk so.... After all... Sl2, m6 or m50? Wich one would u choose?? And the fact the sl2 costs 590€ and the m6 and m50 costs 750€
I would probably pick up the SL2 if it were me. But if I wanted the most portable one then the M50. M6 is obsolete at this point
Best camera review I’ve seen ❤️
Super glad it was helpful!
Question,
Since G7x is a point n shoot.
Is it still categorized as mirrorless?
Excuse my ignorance but I always thought there was 3 types;
DSLR
Mirrorless
Point n shoot
Hi Jamal. You are correct, it is a point and shoot. I misspoke in this video.
Tech Gear Talk
Thanks for your response.
Thank u so much for the review.I was planning to buy a new camera for vlogging and it helped alot.Thank I man!!!!Love from India
You're very welcome Raj! Glad it was helpful. Appreciate the love and you joining the community!
This was the most helpful video i have watched about cameras
Well... wow... that just made my day.
So glad it was helpful!!
Which did you like best?
Canon SL2
Awesome!! Good luck!
You are really good at making reviews 😁
Thank you so much
You did a great job at being unbiased in this review. 👍
Thank you so much for the feedback, I did my best.
How'd you compare the aperture of G7X and standard lens of M6?
it's a complicated question because of the difference in sensor size.
You can't upload straight to youtube, but you can transfer to your phone and upload to youtube. When recording, it does not record to phone.
@@TechGearTalk gotcha but the camera links to your phone through the app so after recording you can upload the videos to your phone from the camera that way with no middle source such as a laptop?
Correct!
Thank you. I just started my channel and you have helped me make some good choices for my first camera.
That's wonderful to hear. It's exactly why I started this channel!
Do you have any suggestions for night vlogging for m6 cameras?
Do you mean in terms of settings?
I'm new to cameras sorry, I meant in terms of lenses. I can't seem to find information for night time usage, any info will be great!
Ah ok, I'm working on a video for that. I would look at the EF-M 22mm f/2 or the 32mm 1.4 because they open really wide. My video will have a lot more info.
wow, the remote monitor was an amazing point,,,,, very solid you earned a subscriber
I'm so glad that it was helpful. It's something that I didn't know until I had the cameras in my hand and I didn't want people to find out once it's too late.
I super appreciate the sub and you taking the time to leave feedback!
Which camera wins for you?
Thank you sir. I'm going to purchase canon eos SL2
You are very welcome, glad it was helpful. If you’re shooting video, check out these microphones: th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html
How would you compare the Canon M100 to the sl2?
Hi, sure. Are you planning on using it for photography or video?
Tech Gear Talk Hi, I would be using it for photography mainly but also for mini videos, like for instagram.
One more question: Do you already own one of these and are thinking of getting the other or do you have neither and are looking to buy one of those?
Tech Gear Talk i don't own any camera so it would be my first camera purchase. I have been going back and forth with these 2 and the simple Canon powershot sx730 hs.
Ok, cool.
In terms of image quality, they will be very similar, so here are a few differentiators.
The SL2 is bigger, it can accept both EF(nicer and larger) and EF-S lenses, it has a viewfinder, has a microphone input and can do timelapse
The M100 is smaller and more portable, has more focus points for photography (may or may not really matter depending on how you shoot)
Overall the SL2 is a more complete camera, but the M100 is smaller and more portable. Which is more important to you?
Wow I thought mirrorless was no flip screen for viewing yourself while filming😂😂 I need to watch alittle more TH-cam I guess. Thanks for clearing that up.
You’re very welcome. I talk about if here a little more: th-cam.com/video/JIb30UZKmkY/w-d-xo.html
I'm saying that the SL2 should be better in low light than the G7XMKII because of the larger sensor.
Tech Gear Talk Got it. Thank you!!
You're welcome. Let me know if I could be of any further help.
This video is very helpful. Well explained. Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much for watching. I'm so glad this video was helpful!! Which one do you think is best for you?
This was so helpful! Great video
really glad you liked it! Which camera looked like the best fit for you?
Tech Gear Talk
The canon SL2 is the one I'm interested in
It's a really good one. Did you see my detailed review of it? th-cam.com/video/WEQtH8hh8dM/w-d-xo.html
Tech Gear Talk
Yes I did 👏
Awesome! Just wanted to make sure you got all the info.
This video was super helpful!
That's great. Which one did you end up liking?
@@TechGearTalk Can't decide because they are all amazing in different ways! But for what I need the camera for maybe the G7 X Mark II or Canon M6
I would look at the m50 over the M6 th-cam.com/video/luYV0dTxoWE/w-d-xo.html
If you want options for better audio, the m50 is better than the g7xmkii. If you want ultimate portability and an all-in-one system g7xmkii is hard to beat.
700D or SL2, which will be better for amateur photography? plz let me know.
Both are good choices. If it were me, I would get the SL2. Larger sensor, newer processor, smaller, lighter
Which is the best camera for video making? Pls reply
Of these three I would pick the SL2
Hi, amazing video with love from India
I am confused between Canon G7x ii and M6.
I need a camera for vlogging and I am torn between the two because of the aperture, Since G7X has 1.8 and the kit lens of M6 offers 3.5
Help me out
Thank you for the comment.
Tech Gear Talk Yeah I have the thing is I’m getting G7X and M6 for the same price so just confused between the two and unable to decide, I’ll be fairly starting out fresh but then a lil better production since the starting won’t hurt much
The only reason I’m considering G7X is because of the aperture otherwise M6 wins for me because of future capabilities and the fact it’s relatively a new camera and Dual AF is just a cherry on the cake.
The G7X is so small and portable. What I love about it is that you can literally take it anywhere!
However, if you want better production value, at some point you will want an external microphone for better audio.
Dual Pixel AF is SO NICE!!
Great video...thanks. I have the G7x ii and love it but also would like to add the SL2.
You're very welcome Mike! The SL2 is a great camera to add to the G7XMKII. It's bigger, of course, but uses better lenses, has an external mic input, larger sensor, etc.
What do you use your cameras for?
Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing!
What editing software do you use?
Hi. I use Adobe Premiere Pro
What do you plan on using it for?
is the G7x sensor is considerably better in terms of night shoot? Will it serve me better?
The G7XMKII has a 1" sensor whereas the other 2 have a larger APS-C sensor which will do better in low light.
What do you plan on shooting at night?
not necessarily if in the event I have to vlog at night. its more of a travel camera that I don't have I use my phone which has limited mem and limited bat life and the quality of video and pics has so much noise.
yes, that is because of the small sensor on the phone.
Similar, but for video, I prefer Canon at this pricepoint.
How would you compare T7i with SL2? Which one you think is better? I know what your question would be "what I ask using it for?" :)
For images and videos... Just want the best image and video out of the two with best feature. Thanks
The T7i is a "better" camera. It has additional focus points for images and in-camera image stabilization.
It's bigger and heavier, but if that doesn't matter to you, i'll be happy.
@@TechGearTalk thank you for the recommendation
You are very welcome.
Great review, I think I know exactly what to do. Have you heard anything about an updated g7x mark iii?
I’m not sure if I should prolong my purchase in order to wait and see?
Thank you very much!
I don't know much about the G7XMKIII, but there is always a "next" camera that is better.
Which one were you leaning towards?
