I was shocked all this time people thought that Dieppe was totally pointless, and was a waist of human lives, but no Dieppe was the headquarters for the German Navy. The main goal of the raid was for the commandos to somehow steal the newest enigma machine that Germany had and to decode it so they would know where and what the U boats were doing in the Atlantic.
This raid was way above Monty.It was British Naval Intelligence that had executed this operation.Ian Fleming aka James bond author , play a key role not only in this raid but the entire Second World War.Ian Fleming is a blasted British hero of World War II.
@Lachausis Hate to have to inform you that Monty had very little to do with this,it was planned by Lord Mountbatten then had to be cancelled and re-scheduled,Monty's advice was that the operation should be cancelled as security and the element of surprise had been compromised, he was over ruled by the other commanders but do not let the facts get in the way of a comment.
