FFTA is so fun, but sometimes I hate the law system, I feel it was better done on FFTA2, but that would be because it's displayed at all times on the second screen. Still one of my favorites TRPG though, I still play it from times to times

It's not a FFTA speedrun without an hour-long grinding segment in the first half !I hope the community will come up with more spectator friendly categories in the same vein as famfryt%. Always great to see FFTA at gdq.
This run was such a delight, thanks so much! I watched every minute. I loved FFTA as a kid and it was so amazing to see the inner workings on display like this, to say nothing of the extremely high skill gameplay and commentary. Also every bit you guys did completely fooled me. lol

My high school GF got me into this game. It’s still a deeply cherished memory playing this game. Amazing run! I remember that feeling of relating to Ritz and not wanting to leave either but still knowing I had to go home and siding with Marche and in the end recruiting Ritz and together stopping this and becoming even the bad guy making Newt go back home. Choosing reality over the final fantasy the world became. ❤

When I played this game as a kid, I heard the talk of getting rid of Montblanc at the earliest opportunity, but I did not accept that. I eventually found in my casual play by making him a Juggler/Time Mage, his weak base attack stat suddenly didn't matter anymore. I think this video is finally teaching me some vital gameplay mechanics I was missing, because what achievements did that semi-blind run did I get at the end? No Combos, No Totems, No non-mandatory mission items, and of course, Save Monty! I have never seen a speedrun for this game, but I wasn't expecting heavy level grinding on the very first real mission, and it also teaches the notion of getting stronger recruits in the late game as long as you don't fill the clan roster too quickly. All in all, Good Video!
I have this game on my phone and is arguably one of my favourite grid based RPGs. I always enjoyed being a dualwielding gladiator with strikeback or counter and you would just onetap most enemies come end game. 10/10 would recommend.
This is one of the first times, that I remember... where a speedrunner actually played the way I do at the start. I am not a speedrunner, but I'm not a completionist either (except for a very few games). But you know what I DO like doing? I like grinding ridiculous levels up in very early game, so I can essentially coast the rest of the game. Takes me a while to do it, and I usually go overboard (*), but it was really cool seeing an official speed run start off the same way. (*) In Final Fantasy VII, I gained somewhat legendary status at my college, for being patient, by grinding all the way up to level 65... Before even changing to the second disk. I mean, I had time to burn between classes and bus trips, and little else to do at home; AND the Student-Activity Center let people bring in their own game systems. So why not. ;) Of course I SWEPT the rest of the game, and that was where all my fun came from. LOL
I played the EU release indeed. Gameplay wise, there is no difference between the EU and NA release. The Japanese version differs rather heavily, which is why we don't use it to run. :)
question becasue i don't remeber a lot about this game but, doesn't steal EXP work on characters without exp ? if so, wouldn't it be better to have the main guy be a Thieft and have him steal exp from the NPC to speed up the grinding process ?
The first time you play FFTA, you will be completely lost if you don't use a tutorial. TH-cam didn't exist when it was released, so that didn't help. During my first run, I thought Marche was the only character who could use combos, that you needed to equip a weapon permanently to use its ability and that you couldn't unlock new jobs by giving characters more A-abilities. I kept going through more battles because I couldn't find a Juggler to join my party. It's one of the best games ever, but I don't think anyone does well on their first try.
Finish this multiple times..but different route than this..used frosty mage grind level..max marche level with montblac and release other guild members..and recruit new lvl 50 member..and blitz through all mission..one hit KO all monster..fav class was ninja with double sword skill..

The rule card stuff is really needed to shake up the gameplay loop. Game difficulty is a joke even with the law mechanic. FFTA being good isn't a knock on the other ff games.
Sounds like you just had a hard time with a basic mechanic of the game and wrote the whole game off rather than actually learning how it works. I found the judges frustrating as a kid, but replaying it as an adult who was smart enough to actually pay attention to the mechanics the judges were rarely even relevant to what was going on. You can even get items to change the rules to things that are favorable to you, or punish the enemies, or what have you. I'd suggest giving it another shot at some point because it's a great game and calling it "The worst FF game" because you didn't understand one mechanic means you're depriving yourself of an experience you would likely enjoy.
I like how the first hour and a half is just Marche asserting dominance by T-posing in front of a goblin who has given up.
This game 100% needs a remake. Easily the best game on the GBA.
This and Golden Sun would be remakes of the century

Edit: Change current Any% to Grind%, and then just migrate to an empty list for Any%
Nothing stopping someone unilaterally claiming WR in the new save file category, that's how meme categories often start

Extremely late answer, but in case someone is still wondering: you can’t Steal EXP from an enemy that has none.
