    Had a huge sensitivity difference between 6.499 and 6.5 mhz. Went through the relay cleaning. Only had a 50 ohm resister for around 250ma. Huge improvement. My short wave listening really got a shot in the arm. Great video.

    The AM mode on my 430 stopped working. This technique has brought it back so far.

    Thanks Frank, I'm YD1DDC (ex YB1JU) . Your video help me for repairing my Final Unit. Resistor R15 (15 Ohms/0.5W) at the base of Final Q4 is getting hot and burnt. I don't know why. I hope with all information from your video I'll fix this problem. If you have modifications for making TS-430S performance better pse upload its video.

    Excellent Video, and explanation on where things are and how to adjust or all the other things YOU showed, it was like going to a Class on how to make such adjustments and replacements or adjustments.. Not many Videos On TH-cam are this well done... The only complaint was the Focus of YOUR Camera was not very good, but I could make out where things were as YOU Explained how to do things, I have a Kenwood TS 403 and a TS -930S and have some things I will do to them what YOU showed how to do in YOUR Video, Good Job!!!!!!!!!

      Not MY video, but thanks! It's a rip from an old beat-up VHS tape. I contacted the creator, and he didn't have a better copy, or any copy in fact. Uploaded with permission, but that's about the extent of what I know as I'VE never owned a TS430. Thank YOU for visiting.

    Just picked one up for $40 not expecting it to work, looked nice but had dead on the sticker, got it home, checked it out, has the AM filter, powered it up & everything works, great receive and spot on freq but display goes blank from 1600kc to 2500kc with no receive. Here the relay kick in.

    one more thing i was an electrical and electronic repair man in a steel mill and would suggest when working on live equipment u should remove ur ring from ur finger, gold is a very good conductor of electricity.

    It would appear to me to take the plastic covers off of the transmit relays and clean the contacts while you have the PA out. I would have done that as well just so I wouldn't have to do it again later. Thanks for the video. I will have a working Kenwood TS-430S with the PS-430 dedicated power supply next week and am looking forward to using it when I get my General license as well next week. I also noticed that your radio does not have the FM board installed. I would need to know where the bulb is soldered as I'd replace the incandescent bulb with a 5mm bright white LED. The LED needs to be oriented with + and - solder connections with a current limiting resistor. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU for showing the modification to transmit on WARC as well as 11 meter band and opening up all the HF frequencies. I knew it could be done--I just didn't know how. THANKS again for that. 73 from K9POW in eastern Tennessee.

    Hello Milton,
    Great work, just one thing to point: the speaker connection shown in the video is not correct, the speaker connect to the IF board on connector 1 and not to this one, that connector should be to connect the optional FM card. I am trying to make one working, very poor sensibility and scraches when tuning on frequencies with signal.
    Many thanks for this video, it helps to understand.

    Connector 10 on this radio I have has 5 wires. No wires cut yet seems to TX on all bands. Why is it 5 wire and not 3? Serial # possibly?

  • @stevec5000
    @stevec5000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When you connect 12 volts to the antenna connector through a resistor you are feeding current into the radio through the relays but where does that current go? Is something inside the radio heating up?

    • @nelsnelsen6741
      @nelsnelsen6741 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The current goes to ground and it is nessary to use a resistor to limet the current so heating does not happen. A larger value resister will let less current thru.

    Hello everyone is there anyone knows the cause of ALC and SWR on TS 440 does not work

  • @Radioconx
    @Radioconx 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    You may already know this but VCO-5 in a TS440 needs to have the Sonybond goop removed from it and apparently this may not affect the 430 but it is worth spreading the info I learned at this link: forums.qrz.com/showthread.php?351511-Kenwood-TS-430-and-TS-440-all-dots-on-display-solution Bob WB6SLC 73!

    • @Satchmoeddie
      @Satchmoeddie 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +RadioConx They did not use Sony-Bond on all of the 430s so far as I have seen. The earlier ones do not have that goop in them. They sure used it in lots of other consumer electronics back then. TS430s are most famous for cruddy dirty contacts. I don't know about burning the contacts clean though. My Kenwood key entry RF generator was also guilty of this issue. The relays are kind of iffy. It takes a gentle tap to get it to power up right, but once it does she works just fine. Eventually I replaced a few relays & made sure it was spot on & fully aligned it with a calibrated Agilent O scope & freq counter. My FM broadcast band 19KHz stereo modulator was made by Matsushita/Panasonic & no such problems. I do a lot of work on vac tube gear. You won't see my hands or finger smashing things around inside any of those vac tube Xcrvers, Xmitters or Rcvrs. I have fixed enough of this stuff, and finally went and got licensed to transmit last week. Easy tests, except for the extra. I don't think I will be erecting any antenna farms in a national park, but I now know I will need an environmental impact study. These old 430s are nice to work on. I don't even need a microscope.

    Hi there, over the pond, I'm from holland (netherlands (19)) I am following it all, its a great help. Ik have a question. Is there a possibility to make the outgoing power, (watts) adjustable? Say from 1-120 watts fm? Because I really miss that. Mine is only giving 55 watts, which is very low. So can I change the wattage (variable) and put it up to 120? Age here is 64 years, an ol'rooster with parkinsons. But still enjoying.. yopper@zeelandnet.nl
