  • This is my third attempt at locating Ellicott Rock. (See my other videos: Backpacking the Chattooga River Trail--2021--SC, NC, & GA . And; The Search For Ellicott Rock-- Episode One, Two & Three.)
Also, Giving my Hiking Pole Tent another chance even after it left me so disappointed on the Benton Mackaye Smoky’s trip. Found more yummy mushrooms! And then…..some very strange sounds at night! (Not Owls this time.)
Ellicott’s Rock is a survey marker placed in 1811 by Andrew Ellicott as part of his survey to resolve the boundary dispute between the U.S. states of Georgia and North Carolina. The Rock is located in South Carolina and where Georgia and North Carolina boundaries meet.

Sorry your Frog Toggs jacket got you sick and shortened your trip. 🙁 I have a Frog Toggs too. It's always worked great for me, but I never used it with a backpack or a long hike through the rain. It just seems like there's no perfect rain coat for backpacking. The coat is either breathable and wets out eventually, or it doesn't breath and then you get soaked with sweat and still end up getting chilled. 🙄 Glad to see that the Dripinator sheds water now!

Yes, I agree. And my first FrogToggs poncho (An ultra light version.) soaked thru after 4 or 5 hours. However, the heavier one; it has snaps down the sides and a different material; works the best. I used it in the Smoky's with all day rain, no problem! Some You-tubers swear by their $200 and $300 rain jackets, but I can't afford that!😳

Re the night splashes:. There's only one night creature I know of that likes to throw rocks....Sasquatch!!!
    Could it be???

So, in all seriousness, my daughter and I went camping/trout fishing mid November 2023 in the same area. We hiked down from the fish hatchery, walked across the bridge and camped maybe 50 yards down the trail from the bridge, right where the river bends. In the middle of the night, maybe 12/1 am. Same KERPLOOSH!!! maybe 3 or 4 times. I was awake when this happened as there was an animal traffic next to our camp. (Not sure what, but there was alot.) There was no sound of rocks rolling down the hillside. And I immediately thought of this video. There were plenty of rocks in our area though, unlike yours. I had actually watched this video before our trip and was thinking maybe you heard some deer crossing or something, but after hearing it myself, there is now way that was any animal jumping in. The water was also only one to two feet deep. There are only two things I truly think it could be are, 1. a bear flipping rocks, or 2. Sasquatch. And honestly, with you hearing the same sound, and rocks not being where you were, my only option to believe is Sasquatch. Have any others heard this or have any theories? The sound was exactly as described, tossing a large rock into water. That kerplunk sound when the dispersed water returns and collides with itself.

Oh my goodness! That's wild! Now you're starting to scare me..... I can't remember if I mentioned it in the video, but in the morning I noticed bare footprints in the sand by the river just below where I was camping. I remember thinking, 'were those there last night? 'Yes surely they were.... probably left by the people that camped just before me. ' But who walks barefoot in the cold sand in November? They were not big prints, about my size, ...so I felt sure that they were there all along, I just did not notice them earlier. Then I thought at the very least, some kid snuck down to the river bank during the night, barefoot, throwing rocks to scare me. But there was no one camping nearby... nobody. So I discarded that thought. I do not 100% believe in Bigfoot. But at the same time, I believe it could be possible, although a little preposterous. But when things like this happen, you have to wonder.....

not uncommon. i had a rock fight with a sasquatch here at my pond but his rock was huge and he trhew it way over pine trees and it came down through the trees hitting limbs knock knock knock, thud!! i estimated that rock at least 20 pounds and thrown probably 100 yards
