Are all my decisions terrible? What was your worst car purchase? What was your best?

Not all of them are bad, just a lot of them :-) So my worst car is a 1999 Audi A4. I bought it for $6,000, and a year and $10,000 later it still wasn't where I wanted it. The best purchase is a toss up between a 1988 Ford Taurus and a 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SE. The Taurus cost less than $1000 for every 10,000 driven and was a good car all around. The Mercedes was 15 years old at the time and I paid $3,000 for it. It had the best build quality of all of my cars, and ran smooth even at 220 km/h (about 132 mph). Sadly I couldn't bring it back from Germany and had to sell it.

One of my best purchases was a 1985 Ford Escort. It started and ran every time. The worst was also a Ford. 2000 Ford Contour with the 4 cylinder. The day after I bought it, the timing belt started rattling. It was missing some idlers and they reused the old tensioner. A month later the fuel pump quit, which should have been an easy job if the pump cover fit out the hole under the back seat. I regretted not making the hole bigger when I took out the fuel tank. What a b--h it was to get back in, and it leaked after that. Against my wife’s advice to keep it, I sold it, leak and all.

1978 Cutlass Supreme. It had the wrong motor in it so every time I bought parts for it they didn't fit.

If you don’t love it, get rid of it. Life is too short to spent time being owned by a car you don’t love.

My late cousin owned 20 to 30+ vintage cars - we never knew for sure.
He parked them in various locations around his city and would regularly move them so he wouldn't get tickets.
After he died his family didn't know where many of them were.

I TOLD YOU the overheating could be ignition related on the Probe. Lol. The whole top of my lower coolant fill blew off from a failing coil and overheat, the plastic tank was also old. Get some Ebay headers for $120 bucks, a high flow cat and off the shelf the rest. 2" with a resonator in there somewhere, and it will sound exotic.

Really stoked to see the Probe is going to make it. Don't change the color! My cousin had an XB iin what he called burnt penny. Loved the thing. Got run off the road into (I think) a fire hydrant - that's the story, reality might be another matter. Replaced it with another, some kind of lime green, and mourned the loss. He's the kind of guy who will wear an olive khaki shirt with epulets - paired with an ascot. But, San Francisco, so....

I enjoyed seeing the menagerie of vehicles and getting the latest information on them. I have to admit it really warmed my heart to see that the Probe was running again because it is my favorite out of your collection. I remember when I used to see a number of them on the road and just how cool they looked. I hope the exhaust situation is resolved and that the Probe has a long and glorious life with you.

      We got the following:
      1955 speedster
      1970 dodge swinger
      1972 fiat 850
      1973 dodge w250
      1975 Pontiac Grandville
      1985 dodge 600 turbo
      1994 Mercedes S500 coupe
      1997 Camry V6
      2000 Mercedes c240 4matic
      2003 Silverado Diesel
      2013 ML350 bluetec
      2016 Volvo Xc90 t8
      2016 Mercedes S550
This is after selling few cars recently, trying to make room for new cars that we ordered few years ago but still waiting for delivery.
      It’s not a problem, it’s a fun obsession.

As someone who’s first car was a 2000 Nissan Altima, I resent your comment about how the pervious generation Altima wasn’t all that great 😅 that was one of the most trouble free, comfortable cars I ever had and did amazing well in some harsh winter conditions. But it’s always great to see a fleet update and hear what some plans are going forward, definitely looking forward to seeing that in depth review of the chaser too!

The second gen Ford probe is, in my opinion, the most underrated car of all time. I absolutely love how it's a JDM pony car for people who can't afford a real JDM. I'd give anything for a right-hand drive RWD Probe to have been made

What you spoke was pure truth brother! Everyone online “oh I made so much selling this, it was great!” While simultaneously neglecting the fact they own a fleet of other cars that have not, nor will not ever make them a profit, much like a gambler who wins a 100k jackpot after they spent 20 years gambling 500k away. Because of your honest words and cool video, consider this little buttercup subscribed!

I’m so happy to see the Probe running again! My parents had an 03 Altima with the VQ. It was a fun family car. They definitely were a big deal in 02, they looked good, went fast and handled pretty well for a family car. My parents got 200k out of that car, then sold it to a girl going to college. It’s still going AFAIK.
    Best purchase: BMW M3 E90
Worst: Isuzu Rodeo 99. It was fine to drive, but it spun a bearing so it spent a fair amount of time dead until I swapped in a new motor. At least it was cheap!

I somehow stumbled on your channel and watched a few of your videos. Your philosophy resonates with me completely. Your brutal honesty is so shocking!
After driving cars from 1986-2018, I finally came to the realization that car ownership is not for me. In fact, driving in this mad world (where so many are driving distracted by their cell phones) is not for me. I sold off my car in 2020 and feel so relieved. However, I don't enjoy the dependence on Uber etc and I honestly don't know how to solve this nasty problem.
I deeply admire your views and I am hoping to learn much from your knowledge and experience.

Love your collection. All these rare and forgotten cars (except the Altima), very nice.
I’ve only owned two cars so far, a 98 Mazda 626 (EU-spec) 1.9 and a 96 Mitsubishi Galant 2.0 V6 that I still have and drive. Both manual. The Mazda wasn’t a good purchase in the end, it was way too rusty and didn’t got much service. Was very comfortable though, but only 90hp so not fun. Sold it and I’m glad it’s good, made my a lot of headaches.
The Mitsubishi is super fun, I bought it three years ago and had zero issues with it. It’s been maintained perfectly all throughout its life and the 2.0 V6 is very fun to rev. I probably won’t ever get rid of it, because these are so rare, you can’t find them anymore.

I didn't know you had bought a VW Fox Wagon, those are lovely cars, here in Argentina we had the sedan (Gacel/Senda), the hatchback (Gol) and the UTE (Saveiro), they're very reliable cars and those little engines are awesome, I currently own a third gen Parati/Gol Country which is a estate with the 1.6 AP engine, very smooth and comfy, even though it's narrow for three adults on the back.

If you watch your own video, you’ll know which ones to sell. Definitely keep the Nova and xB. Sell the Caddie, Land Cruiser, Altima, and Fox. Consider selling the Probe because it’s still sought after. Sell the Prius but to upgrade to a newer one, maybe. Keep the Wrangler for a year and see if you get tired of it. It would be more off-roadable than the Cruiser and easier/cheaper to work on. I’d even consider selling Liam Nissan unless you are really going to get back in Lemons. Proven Lemons cars probably sell good because they can pass tech for the race. The other option is get a team together again and get back into racing it.

Greetings from Glenn in Cleveland! I've always had a good car and a cheap beater car. The beaters were usually winter cars. The best $300 dollars I ever spent was on a 1973 Delta 88 that I purchased in 1981. It had an incredible heater and blew out ice cubes in the summer. The car had terminal body cancer. (Good thing it was Oldsmobile shit brown in color) I drove it to hell and back over the course of a year. It needed a water pump when I got it. I sold it to a buddy for $150. It needed a radiator and a front left spring by then. He fixed it and drove it for 7 more years.
Just about 4 years ago I bought a 2009 Honda Civic Coupe with 176,000 mi. for $200 from a friend who bought the car new. He had to give up driving at 83 yrs. because of several accidents. It cost about $500 to replace the front-end body parts (in color) Mechanically, I replaced the starter. So there is something to be said about cheap cars.

Ethan: "Toyota figured out in the 2000's how to build an interior that lasts."
Also Ethan: "Toyota forgot in the 2010's how to build an interior that lasts."
    Other thoughts:
People don't make fun of Altimas so much as their drivers. They're horrible.
"Salvage" titles are tricky, as I've come to find out. It boils down to where you live, where/how you obtained the car, the previous title status, and even where you sell it off to. I've bought a few cars out of junkyards here in WA, every single one with a "Wrecker Destroyed" title (required for a car to end up in a yard and then be resold). Only one of those cars actually was there for collision damage, and even that was minor: a broken mirror, broken tail light, and paint scrapes. Not even any significant dents. Every single one I registered after that came with a clean, unbranded title from WA (Because they were all more than 10 years old), but they legally have to carry the state patrol inspection sticker on their door jamb. Regardless of why they ended up in the junkyard. But I sold one to someone in Colorado, and Colorado threw a fit and forced me to fill out a form from their state saying it was rebuilt. Even though the Washington title bore no such brand on it. You can also, under certain circumstances here, buy a car that has been wrecked but still has a clean title, fix it up, and retain a "clean" title, with no state patrol inspection sticker, even if... say... the front end was completely destroyed. So yeah, for some people, "salvage" titles are a red flag that will have them run screaming. Personally I care more about how the vehicle actually performs, seeing as how I've "rebuilt" a few cars that ended up in the junkyard for mechanical issues.

I have a heavily salvaged 350Z and the rear fenders are bondo. The entire bottom side hit the ground and there's torn exhaust flex pipe and scratches on the gas tank. The resonator is crushed. Inside, the center console trim is too long by about 1/8" and doesn't clip in. I don't believe the body was grafted but I bet there are some secrets I never found. Runs fine and the AC is great. It's just ratty enough that I wouldn't cry if a door dinged it. Those are the worst for any car.

I'm a huge VW fan. I own a 2012 VW Passat with the 5 cylinder engine. Having said that. The Fox is a gamble at best. Although, you may be ahead of the curb and start something. There are very few left and that's a help. It was one of VW's worst designed cars, little effort was spent on the development. But, whatever u do don't scrap it. Also, VW 2.5 5cyl engines are Venerable, tough, long lasting. Newer ones may have more HP but man the cost of timing chains and other potential failure mode points. Unfortunately the Fox has an 1.8 ltr 8 valve engine. Not the greatest.

My worst Purchase was a 2003 Renault Laguna Sports Wagon, with the 2.0 DCi engine. When the car worked it was great but unfortunately that wasn't often, I spent waaaayyyyy too much money fixing it every other month. I had mechanical and electrical issues including a small fire, which is just want on your car. Things didn't work and trim was missing or fell off, it was just so bad 😂
I was so glad get rid of that car, even though I really lost a lot of money I was done with it. Shame they do look great, but often it's on the back of a tow truck lol
My best purchase is probably my 1989 Fiat Uno, yes I know it's a Fiat how can an Italian car be any better than French cars!! Quite easily in fact the Uno cost me £250 and only £100 to get an MOT, it's always started and ran whatever the weather these past 11 years. And it's the car people always come up an talk to me about, I still have this car which I'm now restoring as it's something I never want to sell.
Glad to see the Probe make a comeback, maybe a stainless or sports exhaust/muffler system would be good instead for it!!
Love the Nova too, those cars are cool as we had the Corolla equivalent in the UK including a funny looking 5 door hatchback version!

I recommend painting a car yourself.
I just painted my 98 Sentra with manual transmission....I painted it with a 4 inch roller and a gallon of Rust-Oleum Farm and Implement paint (in Kubota Orange)
I would like that Fox, would give me much more room than my Sentra.
