Sasuke does understand Itachi's way of life, he just didn't know that itachi abandoned his old ways when he was revived and learned that Sasuke joined the Akatsuki and going to destroy the village, all thanks to constantly trying to manipulate him. Edo Itachi is not the same as alive Itachi. Alive itachi was a villain, much like Sasuke here.
