      Cure cancer? That's really not possible

    • @Kimmaline
      @Kimmaline 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +40

      So, I studied under some cancer researchers and it isn't *quite* accurate. The bulk of the research into "curing cancer" isn't done by pharmaceutical companies, it's done at academic institutions and private labs. We have some treatments now for certain cancers that have a better efficacy rate than most prescriptions. There are a few cancers simply not considered terminal anymore, so long as you get treatment.
      His general sentiment is pretty spot on, obviously--I'm not trying to argue against anything. But in reality if a cure was developed for cancer (which is misleading, because different cancers would have different treatments; "cancer" is more of a classification of conditions that have similar behaviors than a singular thing) it would get sold to big pharma for billions, then they would hold the patent on it likely for 17yrs during which time they would charge absolutely ridiculous rates at U.S. hospitals while dumping it on the European market for pennies on the dollar.
      Fun fact: for a long time, many chemo drugs were failed antibiotics. They were drugs designed to be antibiotics but the side effects were too severe. )We have a greater threshold for them with chemo drugs.)

      More and more cancers are treatable and survival rates are going up. Also, there cannot be a cure for "cancer". There are many types of cancers, and they all require different treatment. This whole "There's money in it, so they won't look for a cure" is bullshit. A "cure" for cancer would be a goldmine.

    Thank you so much for your music! We need to revive the tradition from the 30s and the 60s of country/folk musicians that sing about imperialism and the murderous system of capitalism, instead of cars and money. Your lyrics are heartfelt, witty, and thought-provoking, and your voice has a wonderful gravelly character. Please upload more, and I would love for you to record and post your songs on major streaming services, if only so that I can listen to it during my morning commute. But maybe I am being selfish. Your last line made so much sense to me and I’m not usually a “they’re hiding cures” person as much as I just believe it can still currently very complicated to reverse a cancer, and prevention is likely easier but still very hard because of environmental reasons.

    • @LordVader1094
      @LordVader1094 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      More importantly, there may well be a cure, but there's no need to hide it: you just don't need to be actively searching for it. Cures aren't as lucrative as treating symptoms.
      But yeah, it'd help if we weren't breathing, eating, and lathering cancer on ourselves daily.

    • @bobrandom5545
      @bobrandom5545 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LordVader1094 No, there isn't a "cure". That's not how cancer works. It's many different diseases that all require different treatments and all have different causes. "Cures aren't as lucrative as treating symptoms", where do you get the idea that cancer treatment is basically about treating symptoms? It's just not true. Cancers are extremely difficult to treat, so many treatment options are just very crude and can be dangerous themselves. If there were a cure, EVERYONE would take that option, so the company that discovers said cure would've struck gold. Anyway, survival rates have consistently been going up. Doesn't really rhyme with your narrative, does it?

      The cure for diabetes is nutritionally dense food. Diabetes was created, no one is born with it. Get away from too much carbs, get away from too much sugar, get away from the fillers in food. Acv, minerals, and lots of vegatables. The liver needs to be repaired for diabetes to go away. 😬

      If these things could be "cured" at all it's likely they would have been by now.
      Some of the most brilliant minds with the best intentions & no shortage of funding are working 24/7 on such problems.
      So whilst i understand the sentiment, that perhaps a "cure" does exist but it's been shelved because there's too much profit in the treatment; it is extremely unlikely that's the case.
