I have heard from numerous sources the FT3DR is popular with EMCOMM and S&R groups. My suggestion to Yaesu would be give the option in GPS setup to show coordinates using UTM versus LAT/LON. More precise locations with UTM.
Wonder if the EU version can "open up" and cover the USA 70 cm band as well, travel a lot between the states and SV9 land. C4FM, doubt its compatible with APCO P25, probably Yaesu's digital standard only.
Only thoughts on relying on a touch screen with no keypad is how is it in winter? How will the screen respond when it is very cold. I live in Canada, and even with things getting warmer, taking that on a winter hike might make me concerned it would not respond when I needed it.
I use it in cold rain with gloves and it works surprisingly well. Of course the real keys works better but with presets and 2 rotary knob is acceptable.
If you have had an ft2d where has the top left tiny clock and the power indicator on vfo a and b gone why did they remove it on the ft3d apart from that better display GPS and don't have any problem with audio level
Thanks! Looks even better in real life! After playing with this radio more this evening I’m finding even more cool features. Definitely going to get one of these even if I don’t need it lol
No charging cradle, just a charger that plugs in the side. Well, in this one I have. I did say in the video that i wasn’t given the programming cable and that no programming software available. Hopefully I’ll make another video when those items are available. Remember this radio is not released for sale yet, but this week I believe
Nice, full of features radio but... the hardware inside FT3D is noisy and you can hear changes in display in FM VHF mode. Menu changes does open the squelch. Dial is jumping back and forth when you navigate in menu or when you choose the memory or in VFO mode. I hope for you that my unit is defective. I will send my FT3D back and no more Yaesu!
Hi I have a question: If I acquire two FT3D, can I determine the distance and direction of the other person using the same radio without the help of any repeater ? Giving the distance between them are OK for reception of signals
Page 41 of the advance manual discusses the use of an adapter between the radio and an external TNC, so I would presume the radio doesnt have an inbuilt TNC for FM, its only used for APRS. :-/
Unfortunately mine was a review model, so I only received the radio and the charger. But from looking online I dont think it does, I believe its separate purchase. :-(
@@terrymac9570 We'll have to wait and see. I agree the FT2 was disappointing. Sold mine after a few months. Several of the quirky functions are unchanged when compared with the FT2. The upgraded touchscreen, CAM, and modes are the new lipstick on this version.
Radio industry got stuck in early 90's ;/. When rest of the world use USB-C, they for some reason make millions of different models and non of them is USB-C charged... I've spend hours and hours and I can't find what I need. Each time I go on a paragliding trip I have to carry a big bulky desktop charger with me... shame and sorrow...
JungleDumplings Strawman much? Recorded audio sounds like crap because it’s fixed 16 kHz sample rate. Regardless of your misrepresentation of my position, you could expect the same audio quality from a mono device as a stereo one.
@@indecentseas- My expectations of the audio recording was better than a $5 wav recorder from eBay, and my expectations of the bluetooth earpiece was to sound better than the speaker audio (which the bluetooth earpiece itself does with another device, but the bluetooth in the FT3D is crap).
Looks good radio but you wasted too much time of viewers. Which should have been avoided. Make a point simple and in 5 minutes please. Your presentation skill ! No comment but reduce the length as time is a precious commodity, but vedio is free but that does mean that it can be edited and remade .
I know you are referring to the included QSO I had with another Ham Radio operator, but it was left in because if you actually listen to the QSO it highlights a VERY useful feature of the FT3D, something which is better shown than explained in a 5 second sentence. :-)
Tech Minds amazing how you can give up your time to make something and you get people criticising your methods. I really enjoyed the video and appreciated your time. I picked one of these up and although the audio is high in the treble I find that it's more important to determine what you're hearing than how it sounds. Lower audio frequencies are harder to interpret so again, I'm not sure why people think it's bad. Ben
I bought one yesterday. The fucking screen is PLASTIC. Cheap over-priced ripoff. Fucking plastic. 15 percent restocking fee. Steep price for this paper weight. Buyer beware.
very well done - articulate and well organized

Nice radio great review thanks for making and posting 👍
You’re welcome 🙏

I'm happy with my FT2DR. Maybe when the FT4D comes out I'll get the FT3D
No rewards for incremental improvements.
Good review, I like the screen quality.

Ps. The manuals are available on Yaesu website which cover accessories. Not sure if it mentions battery life, will have to check.
Thank you..I am looking forward to it coming available..thank you or the video even though you had a long winded ask..but it was still great!
Uses the same batteries and accessories as the FT2DR.

Mine doesn’t suffer with any of those issues, you may have a defective unit there unfortunately
Is it made in Japan?
Is the speaker better on the 3D compared to 2d ?
Absolutely NO...very tinny and NO bass. A deal killer for me
Gotta day since buying one the speaker is tinny, nothing like the 70D
MARS/CAPS mod?
Sure looks that way. Look at time index 2:30. Has a rubber seal, just like the FT2D.
@@cognetic it is exactly like FT2, my FT3DR is wideband.
Yup. Removed my FT-3DR zero Ohm resistor, and confirmed transmit on GMRS / MURS / FRS now working.

How to order
That was fun! I’m new to all of this and studying for the tech exam. Can you make sure your location doesn’t go out? 😂
Very nice radio 👌
Can this be charged using the USB cable?
Any confirmation yes or no can the TNC be used for anything other than APRS? Winlink? Thanks for the review!!

Nice review Matt, do you get a programming cable in the box?
Unfortunately mine was a review model, so I only received the radio and the charger. But from looking online I dont think it does, I believe its separate purchase. :-(
Mine comes with programming cable.
You do get a cable but it’s only for updating firmware, simply used the free yaesu programming software and the SD card..... so no need for a cable...
Can it be used as a scanner radio,
I'm a total newbie to ham.
Pretty much yes. It covers a wide range of frequencies close to a scanner, minis SSB HF
Yes, and it's fast.
If I want to manually enter the frequency 446.00625 he sends it to 446.000. Why?
Putting it in wrong try 446.0625 and check step setup
I will get one wed now a question about open spot2 im getting conecter autherition FAILED
Well I bet the bullet and Bought oné now the fun begins my brain's going to hurt soon
Haha it’s quite a intuitive menu system to be fair. Plus Fusion is by far the easiest digital mode to setup and use. You’ll enjoy using it.

Is this a re upload?
Nope, first ever video on this product. As of today it’s not even released yet, the FT3D I mean. Why’s that?
Tech Minds if that’s the case that’s the biggest hit of de ja veu I’ve had in a long time
I have the 2d, is it worth the upgrade after the disappointing outcome I’ve had with its predecessor ?

I guess it doesn't have a water resistance rating , nobody seems to mention it. I am in Seattle so everything needs a water rating.

Better yaesus for submersion
Can you transmit in airband frequency or just monitor?
Just monitor.
