Thank you for another great post. What's more impressive to me about your channel, however, is your reliability, posting a video on time every Wednesday, as you've committed to. A rare thing these days on TH-cam. You're a man of your word and you keep showing your respect for your viewers and subscribers. Signed, appreciative.

This posting is extremely helpful and it is exactly what I was looking for and needed to see. I have always had an issue with editing photos and am fairly new to Lr and PS. Establishing a basic routine, if you will, about how to first proceed has made it difficult for me. I like to have a routine set in the beginning, or a starting recipe, on how and where to begin. This will definitely get me started on creating my own beginner workflow. I can't tell you how much your videos have helped. I am starting to understand Lr a bit more, but still have a LONG way to go. Baby steps. As I have said before, thank you very much for your wonderful content and for spending the time to create and post the videos. I am very grateful, as many others are who follow your posting, for the time and effort you put into it. Wonderful, as always.

I'm new to photo editing, but am enjoying the learning and exploring. I found that by temporarily turning the photo into B&W, I can adjust the exposure setting to the point were better detail shows up. Then I switch the photo back to color and fine tune the remaining exposure settings (highlights, shadows, etc.). From there I work the white balance and color editing. Finally masks for light effects.

Hey Mark! Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Another tip for beginners that really helped me was to arrange the modules in my editing flow... Mine, for example is Lens Profiles, Basic, Calbration, Tone Curve, Color Mixer, Details, etc. This then allowed me to develop the muscle memory to establish my workflow.
The "solo mode" is also helpful so there is only one module open at a time.
I shoot RAW with the camera and shoot in both RAW and JPEG on the drone.

Thanks Mark. I am going to send this video to all the members of my U3A Digital Photography Group. Our first session of the year is on photo editing. Most of them have very little or no experience in this.
What would be really useful is a simple set of definitions of each of the tools. eg what does "Clarity" actually mean and what happens when you adjust it.

I'm a Fugi shooter. We can choose what film simulation (with tweaks) we want to use to shoot. I'm also a Lightroom for mobile user so not sure whether this applies to all LR users but assume it will, so there's an option in LR in preferences, to import as shot. So, this still imports a RAW file but with all the in camera adjustments. This can save time making post import adjustments as the colour balance will be fine. The other method I use is, if several images are similar, having adjusted the first one, on the subsequent images, 11:53 I use the option to copy from previous image (drop down from the... top right hand corner) or use save settings and then paste. Can still add extra tweaks if required.

Hey Mark! Great episode as ever. One thing that seemed to be missing from the workflow was WB. I imagine it would be at the start of the colour steps but this is so important.
On sliders. I realised the best way to use them is to go from one extreme to the other, back and forth to find the sweet spot. The key is to only look at the image and not look at the slider numbers. Who cares? All that counts is the image.

@@davidcrighton3431He did mention it earlier on as a global adjustment.
However, I have a big problem with the warming done as part of the linear gradient. While I can certainly understand Mark's desire to improve the look of the underwater pebbles, using a linear gradient means that the reflection of the mountain is a noticeably different color than the mountain itself, which I found really distracting. IMO, it might be better to make all the other adjustments via the linear gradient, and then warm up the pebbles with a separate mask, either a brush or a radial gradient, that would only target the pebbles.

Congrats to John 👍 Excellent film Mark, our editing steps are very similar, I think we’re both doing it right lol 🤣👍. Seriously having a systematic routine really helps, I also use the save and load settings ( in camera raw) so I can to a degree apply similar setting to an image quickly to give me an indication of how an image might look using my usual adjustments, often I still need to make adjustments but it can speed things up if I’m editing lots of similar images! Cheers 👏😀👍

It's almost redundant to say "another great video" - but this is! Even though I'd like to think of myself as a bit more progressed than a beginner, it always helps to see what skilled professional such as yourself utilize. My question may be "out of bounds" as it relates to a beginner topic, but I do wonder in your editing process, where / when do you apply Denoise and sharpening? Same question for Color Grading? Is there a "best time" to implement those Lightroom adjustments? Thank you so very much!

I'm new to photography, so take this comment with many grains of salt! I tried shooting in RAW format, but the RAW images look so dull and lifeless that I found it too daunting to breathe life into them in post. So, for now, I'm sticking with JPEG simply because the "pop" of those images vs RAW makes editing simpler and quicker.
Having said that, your 4 step process seems pretty easy to follow so I'm going to give it a try the next time I have an under exposed image that I need to bring to life.
