I haven't been camping in 30+ years, but when I cook out at a park, I grab the aluminum foil bread pans and use them as disposable pans for heating up baked beans or whatever I might use a sauce pan for.

When I saw you succumbing to the fabulous price of the tomatoes recently I thought “oh no” she didn’t remember how she worked herself to death last time. In my mind, your body did remember. You’ve learned you can still be extremely productive when you don’t try to commit to such an enormous project. If the sale is so good, have a plan ahead of time for what you could do with 1/2 of it. Camping was not so much a treat for me. We were not rich, so my dad built us a pontoon boat out of big metal drum barrels. It truly was a fun until the sun went down. We would park it in a cove and spend a long time as our home base for the weekend. Now, we did not have access to a bathroom, shower or other female necessities .The pontoon was tied to trees at the edge of the lake. The bathroom was at the top of that hill and there were rattlesnakes in those huge rocks!!! That lake was spring fed and icy cold and very very deep. We had cots that we slept on. We would wake up and jump over the side of the pontoon into the lake to tinkle. Breakfast and all other meals were cooked on a charcoal grill. Now, have you ever noticed that the fish who swim up to our boat to graze on our potato peelings are greatly magnified to the size of a submarine. Carp are gigantic fish and being magnified makes them look dangerous. Actually, it really was fun except for the bathroom part. Hope you found some humor in our family vacation.
I made chili the other day and did not have any canned tomatoes. They’re in my freezer judging me. Lol anyway I had canned tomatoes and okra so I put them in my blender, blended them up, and used that as my tomato base for my chili. No one in my family was the wiser.
Hi an Aussie here. Lamb is our thing..haha. lamb must be enjoyed with mint sauce or jelly. A totally different flavour profile. Try it next time. Lamb chops are best cooked on a bbq or an air fryer. Yummy.💚🦘🌼

It's been yrs since we went camping. Food tastes so much better on an open fire. Especially bacon and eggs. We took stuff for breakfast to cook and then a cooler of sandwich stuff and one with drinks in it. We fished and it was easier for us. You're doing a great job momma Jamerrill with your children. Love your camping trips.⛺️We go camping every year up in the Sierra Nevada mountains. We stay for 10-12 days. It’s a lot of work, but fun.🏕️ We take everything, but the kitchen sink.😂
Hey Jammerill!! Take one of those beef bones, oven roast it and then you take it and simmer it in homemade pasta/spaghetti sauce. My mom was taught this in the 70's from a old school Italian lady!! Best sauce ever!!! You can look it up online for more info.
Hi jamerille , I make a lamb tagine with mine. I add a little chilli flakes to mine and a jar of El fez Morocan tagine sauce from Amazon it amazing . I have with rice or cous cous. It takes hours to tender the lamb. I pre brown the lamb and use some ras el hanout spice rub on the lamb before I brown. Than add onion and peppers to the pot and a spoon of flour . One jar of tagine sauce and a little water to prince out jar. Put on low for Anything up to 5 hours . If sauce is too thick add a little water . But you want it not like water you want it thickish sauce to coat rice and cous cous . This is an amazing meal and after you eat this you will want more . Goes nice with either Lebanese flat bread or Nan breads. Xx
There’s so many good camping 🏕️ places at state parks n private campgrounds were from Michigan originally n loved camping on Lake Michigan in mackinaw city some camp grounds have cabins to n pools. We’re in Tennessee 2 years now haven’t gone camping here yet. Have fun finding new places to camp as you get more experienced it gets easier . I love camping with totes makes it easier to grab n go.
I’m a camper. I make foil packs for each person. Super easy. I make them and freeze them. Pull them out when we go camping and throw them on the campfire hot coals even on a grill.
Also our cottage pie here in the U.K. has just fresh small diced carrots in it with onion and Worcester sauce and salt and pepper . We add hour in hours to soak up any fat to make a rou to thicken gravy. Or we also add bisto gravy browning . Then we top with mash . And bake on low for about 2 hours . Now this sounds long. But makes the beef more tender and gives time to take on all the flavours . Please try this is amazing with coliflower cheese and cabbage. The cottage pie comes out rich and in a slab as not a lot of sauce as the gravy soaks in and thickens into with all the flavours and makes it taste great . Please give this a go or see it on my channel .
When our son became ill and moved in with us he didn't eat beans....so when I made chili, I always left out the kidney beans and would warm up a can of them on the side for my husband and I to add to our bowls. But since Kip died June 5, 2024, I can put the beans in the chili pot once again.
I am so sorry for your loss 💔We had a “no beans in my chili” son too. I would just scoop his out, pre-bean addition and make it in a separate pan. He also didn’t like the level of spice the rest of my family did, so it worked out great. We Mamas do what we need to do to feed our families, don’t we 😊
If you have electricity, bring a crock pot. Fill it when you get up, dinner done. Use a liner for easy clean up. Good for chili, spag sauce, etc. I wouldn't leave it out overnight.

You will figure out as you go what you can do without so you aren’t packing and hauling so much stuff. You could make bacon in that cast iron pan then cook some sliced potatoes and onions in the bacon grease along with some fried egg for breakfast. It smells up the whole campground and is delicious!
Chili hack **** Roast the peppers, onions and veggies in oven while browning your meat. It makes it taste like you've slow cooked it all day😊 Working mom of 6 starved kids lol. If you want to reduce egg breakage and everyone will eat broken yolks, Crack eggs into a mason jar and place in cooler, then pour into hot pan if you don't mixthem they mostly will be whole eggs.❤
I live in upstate NY, drive all the way, about 11 hours, to First Landing State Park every year to camp with my family ...and looking through your comments to see if anyone is recommending any other State parks in VA to camp at. VA has the best parks!
I am so happy you and your people get to adventure.. I am also impressed how well you roll with the pinches of food issues. I have family folks allergic to poultry and peanut. For years it was terrifying to let anyone feed us.. I resently discovered permade meatballs that were safe from Sam's club.. I kid you not I did a happy dance because I found another cheat item I can use.. (gift to me)

I am also doing an elimination diet and I want to caution u to a very bad ingredient they are putting in everything - pea protein. It's a toxic crop they kill with round up so they can harvest it. My face swells up when eat it. I do not have a peanut allergy but many on Reddit have had to use an EpiPen after consuming pea protein - there's something wrong with it. Maybe a commercial hybrid? Not sure but even organic pea protein makes my face swell. Don't know, no other food has ever done this so beware....
My Daddy made us a metal stand 4 legs a grate top welded together to set over campfire to cook on just a thought somebody in your town probably a fabricator shop? Could do yall one😊
Oxtail is my favorite part of the beef but it has become an item no longer in my budget. It, and beef liver used to be the least expensive parts to buy. 😢As far as your mama lunch is concerned? If I can’t look at it, I can’t eat it. 😂

I live in upstate NY, drive all the way, about 11 hours, to First Landing State Park every year to camp with my family ...and looking through your comments to see if anyone is recommending any other State parks in VA to camp at. VA has the best parks!

I am so happy you and your people get to adventure.. I am also impressed how well you roll with the pinches of food issues. I have family folks allergic to poultry and peanut. For years it was terrifying to let anyone feed us.. I resently discovered permade meatballs that were safe from Sam's club.. I kid you not I did a happy dance because I found another cheat item I can use.. (gift to me)

I am also doing an elimination diet and I want to caution u to a very bad ingredient they are putting in everything - pea protein. It's a toxic crop they kill with round up so they can harvest it. My face swells up when eat it. I do not have a peanut allergy but many on Reddit have had to use an EpiPen after consuming pea protein - there's something wrong with it. Maybe a commercial hybrid? Not sure but even organic pea protein makes my face swell. Don't know, no other food has ever done this so beware....

Oxtail is my favorite part of the beef but it has become an item no longer in my budget. It, and beef liver used to be the least expensive parts to buy. 😢As far as your mama lunch is concerned? If I can’t look at it, I can’t eat it. 😂
