Oh my goodness, I see this all the time in various postings of art and photography and it always blows my mind. Somebody with the audacity to tell someone else what their art should look like. It blows my mind. But I will say that if my vision warrants it, I will edit most or all of the detail out of shadows. Years of learning "thou shalt have shadow detail!" was in my head for years. The courage to do what I want with my art is something I had to get comfortable with. Took longer than it should have but I'm grateful to have arrived at this place in my work. People like you really teach this courage and I so appreciate it! It's so important on so many levels for so many reasons. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
I often request a discussion on a Facebook group for a photo course I'm doing. Most don't respond or simply do a like which tbh is pretty lame and pointless.... Ref unsolicited advice it's not really related as it often is about my style sense, or perceived lack of.
My comment is not about Cole's image, but rather about the framing of him against the image in the background. It looks like a puff of smoke coming out of Cole's head. Then again, maybe that was intentional, another way of stating his opinion about unsolicited advice. Another great discussion and food for thought. Thanks guys.
Bill, this site doesn’t have room for another smart-ass! Jason already has that position filled (and he’s doing a great job at it!) Yes, it is unfortunate how our heads often mix with the background image!
@@colethompson1906 I realize that the juxtaposition was purely coincidental, but I thought a humorous comment on it might get a laugh or too. Are you sure I couldn't be the second smart-ass of the site? I don't have any other titles to make my life better.
Cole…. If only it were in color!! Hahahaha! I really like your approach Cole, let the individual requesting the feedback tell you about their image and what they want. Then help them achieve it. Great message to all the people out there giving workshops too. When we are at a location we should start off by asking people what it is about the scene they love, then help them get it…. This is what I do now and have for a long time (just didn’t start that way). Another good video.

Having made said decisions more than once in my life, and having paid untold prices for the errors in my judgement, I had to agree with the fellow…

We appreciate you Ellen. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

I'm with John. I can't figure out if Cole is venting or if he's trying out a new hairstyle. But I won't tell him what to do with the cloud. :)
Wait, are you referring to my hair as “the cloud?”
@@colethompson1906Perhaps.
From this side of the screen, it looks like you have a cloud sprouting from your head. Or steam from a volcano.

Yes Jason, a wonderful approach as a workshop leader: teach people to see for themselves.
Good job!

100%. It’s just useless to receive advice from others. Image Critique We often see on TH-cam ls just dumb in my opinion.
But, could you tell us how you truly feel? HA!!!
@@thecoleandjohnshow7236 yeah, hehe. Gear and image critique are trending on TH-cam and i just can't figure out why?
I know people mean well and want to share their knowledge, but…
Have I ever received unsolicited advice... do Jehovah's Witnesses count?
Any experience you’d like to share?
