Great video!! Thank you for the breakdown of ingredients and process. A couple of questions: When heating the oil to make it a 5 degree difference for the lye solution for mixing.. is there a certain temp or method… cause you can burn the oil right?? Second question: what is the temp gun thing called? Also how long do you infuse turmeric in oil? And is it possible to add a fragrance oil, or would it be too much? Thanks in advance if you get to this message. Soaps looked great.. hoping to atart first batch but need to understand process first
Hi @eddiep, thanks for your comment 😀. So I usually heat the oil portion until my butter melts or to get it near the temp I want to mix at. You don't want your oils to start smoking, so for me once the temp is under 80 degrees I'm good, (and this is Celsius). For the temp gun, you can search amazon or other places for an Infrared Thermometer Laser Temperature Gun. They usually can do both Celsius and Fahrenheit. After I added the turmeric powder to the oil, I heated it using a double boiler setup for about 30 mins, then left it overnight to continue infusing. I've seen recommended by others to heat for a couple hours, my short time was ok for me. And yes, you can definitely add fragrance. I usually don't and these soap have a neutral smell, so your added fragrance shouldn't be affected. You should check the recommendations on how much to use based on the fragrance you decide to use. Hope this helps, and congrats on starting your soaping journey. Have fun.
