I paused this video 5 times because I thought my neighbors dog kept barking at 12:30 am. Every time I stopped it the barking wasn’t happening haha it was the video
The last thing I check is the gap between the bottom A to B pillar (951mm IIRC). Provided this is correct you can then twist the door aperture square as required. I read this is what the factory did on occasion. Before breaking out the hydraulic ram though confirm the door hinges are good and not sagging.
Useful tips. My bug is still up on its wooden dolly and waiting it’s heater channels to be replaced. I’ve procrastinated about it for 2 years nearly as I’m nervous about buggering it up……
Hey Mike, In my opinion and experience for me anyway is don't over think it . And do your research. Thanks for sharing. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺.
kind of.... they dipped the car in a coating after assembling it. so you need to do what you can to prevent the rust from coming again. it was a super thin primer. and then they painted them on the outside and whatever blew to the inside was what was painted.
thanks for your comments and likes.
I may never get as in-depth with a VW as you are with this gem, but that doesn’t mean I don’t thoroughly enjoy content like this.
Actually one of the better videos I've seen on this. It gives me a confidence boost, looks like I'm lining up decently on my own project.

Great Stuff!!! VDUBS Forever....
Good points! Pays to tack it first, hang the door. Also do one at a time!
yea I leave the doors on until I am done with the channels.
Mike You read my mind this is exactly what I needed to know for our crusty Oval
You better get that bug finished...I think Thomas wants to go for a ride!

Hi Chris, were the heater channels rust proofed or painted in any way at the factory?
