If a Burger flipper makes a mistake, you get a wrong order. If I make a mistake, airplanes loose doors or people die. It's just a way different ball game. Newest on the layoffs btw is that no Union members are on the chopping block yet. Maybe early next year. That is from an article in the Seattle Times.

The US is a capitalist country and also a democracy. Democracy means balancing between activating, restraining and reconcilling forces. This is not happening and we have been living with the consequences for some time. Manufacturing jobs have been going overseas for some time. We have all suffered from this as not everyone is cut out to be a computer programer. Get back to the table and start negotiating!

There's no way that China's single-aisle will be certified in the US and Europe any time soon. They will sell a bunch domestically but that's going to be it...for now.
They run their work centers so "lean" at times that you have to borrow people from another to complete your normal assignments. But yeah, lay off new hires that have the potential to learn, become engineers, and maybe even design your next generation airplanes.
I'm really surprised Boeing doesn't just move a lot of things out of Washington where is the cost of living is so high they've already lost 5 billion dollars so they could have saved a bunch of money by relocating everything to another state where cost of living is a lot lower and they wouldn't have to be paying such a high wage to their employees freshly considering they have facilities all over the country it should have been that big of a deal just relocate I mean it will hurt Washington immensely but the strikers would maybe be able to keep their jobs and Boeing would be able to save more money in the long run and with all the lawsuits are having because somebody somewhere is dropping the ball and screwing a lot of their products up they need to save every penny they can
If you want a low cost of living…. Why not China or even Africa? Note that Airbus manages to design and manufacture brilliant aircraft whose components do not fall off. It is increasing its technological lead over its competitors while paying its (highly skilled and difficult to replace) workers decently and therefore does not p*ss away billions fighting its own workforce. It’s called competent management.

I have a relative who worked at Boeing. He tells me aht the employees voted to discard their pensions for a one-time payment of thousands of dollars. So (accordng to my relative), the union members voted the pensions out a few years ago. Is that true?
@@charlesbruggmann7909 this is only the beggining because they can’t announce layoffs for the union until they come back off strike. the workers with seniority will not lose any sleep at all once all the newer people are laid off. they are just using the new people to get what they want and the new people think everyone is their brother😂😂

Boeing has relocation plans on the table, but part of the strike deal is to ensure future planes like the 797 stay in Washington state

Pensions add a risk burden for the company going forward. And with life expectancy increasing, a defined benefit plan becomes unsustainable.
