Great to watch, up here in Canada a reporter or announcer would be told to shut up for interrupting the concentration of the archers during competition.
The additional weight help offset the weight drag on the string and the disparity between the centre of balance on the bow and the drawpoint. With string walking it has a greater distance too. Arrow length has a role too but it's all about equalizing the weight balance without rods.
I don't get why it's called bare bow... Call me crazy, but shouldn't a bare bow be just that? Bare? No rest. No stabilizer. Just a bow shot from the shelf? It's a wild and crazy idea I know.
Those shots are hard enough to make as is. I shoot a traditional horsebow without shelf or any aids and have to tell ya hitting a 20x20 square from 35 meters takes skill and practice.

It was a comment on how well they were shooting without all the modern equipment on their bows . The statement that aren't archery is you talking you are pissed about something and just want to pick a fight grow up!
Why do you need a women's class in this day and age of equality? Feminists have been very vocal about the fact that they can do everything as good as men can... better even.... Everybody should compete the in same event against each other equally regardless of age, sex, or gender identity. Anything less is lowering the bar, and encouraging and enabling inequality.
I don't think indoors it matters all that much, but outdoors it certainly does. Women usually shoot lower poundage than men, which makes it a lot harder to consistently shoot at 90m/100yd (the longest distance in outdoor competitions), and they normally shoot slightly shorter distances instead.

As a weapon even by todays standards, the bow still stacks it well against the gun, a little less noisy but none the less just as deadly. I look at it that if ever simething really bad happened, we might very well be rellying on this to bring home the food. I am from the U.K, many years ago, but I think its the only country where there is a law tbat has never been removed, that being every man and boy above the age of sixteen should proctoice on sunday after church for two hours , although clearly no longer enforced I think it kept a ready made army skilled in their art always ready for battle, plus as i say it kept their j eye in for hunting all the year round. No fancy weights or balances just a bare bow and arrow. Most archers even today, make a lot of their own gear, maybe no the bow so much but arrows are certainly tended to by the archer himself, so it stands to reason that these archers understand their equipment very well. Ever a simple trick of spinning the arrow on the tip of the finger just to watch if its in anyway bent, is a simple trick but serves a purpose. I think in fact that this has got to be one of the oldest sports going and good for the mind in as much as you are never shooting against someone else, you are shooting against you last score with the idea of improvment all the time.
One year later and your words are coming true. it's looking like all people should definitely learn the barebow as we all may be hunting for our food very soon. I have bought one recurve for myself. I have made bows for everyone in the family and have bunches of arrows made up. Homemade shafts, broadheads and feathers made from the wings of a big big bird that looked like a bobcat got it. I figured it's better to have honed these skills well before anything hits the fan.
