When you are holding a Shell you can put it on by: Use left stick down, And Pressing b

I'm not close to done like you are but i already played them. And now for the tips!
Mario: after completing level get payment and keep coins collected in level.
Luigi: after completing level get payment and don't keep coins collected in level.
You can use call luigi to get the level done no one will know.
Assist parts can be used for getting power ups defeating enemies and for going through hard to reach places.
Don't be afraid to use assist parts or call luigi if needed
If you don't want to do a level then go to the pause menu and click give up or start over
On/off switches can be used to kill enemies
