- Trouble in mind, I'm blue
But I won't be blue always,
'Cause that sun is gonna shine in my back door someday
Now all you men's the same
But now I'm old enough to change my name
Lord, that sun's gonna shine in my back door someday
I'm gonna lay my head
On that lonesome railroad line
And let the 2:19 ease my troubled mind
Trouble in mind, I'm blue,
But I won't be blue always
Child, that wind's gonna come and blow my blues away!
She was a huge influence the early rock n rollers like Elvis & Chuck Berry among others. I taught Survey of American Popular Music Traditions at Indiana State University a couple years ago, and the textbook didn’t have anything about Sister Rosetta Tharpe in it, but you better believe I made sure those kids knew about her and her contributions.
Playing electric blues guitar by the railroad track while singing her guts out, what can I say, who else did better, man or woman back then? What a voice, what a talent!
In wet weather, no less - which messed with her tuning but it just don't matter - only makes it better, really!
What a voice, what a woman!
"Pretty good for a woman ain't it!" Sister Rosetta is a true force of nature. So much joy to the world!
Screw Janice Joplin on this song!!! Gimme Sister Rosetta anyday of the week!
If there is indeed a Heaven, I hope I get to jam with Sister Rosetta one day.
I have been thinking the same, since I found her. Working on a new playlist. Check it out, featuring S sister Rosetta

It's also fascinating to see a woman play the electric guitar, and damn well, in that era. She is so ahead of her time. It's an amazing story!
The mother of original rock and roll
This lady is better then all musical stars of present day together.
The pioneers. The foundation of everything. The KINGS and QUEENS
Agree musicians today can’t hold a candle to Rosetta. Today’s stars are pampered and travel in luxury. She pioneered when blacks were no even allowed to drink out of same water fountain as whites. She did not make the money stars do today. She was and still is a star. .
Amen to that justified
That’s because they had to rely on their talent as musicians and singers. They didn’t have to have a white smile, good hair and flashing lights to cover up the fact they ain’t got no talent, like todays “singers”...
Ok boomer
Essa nega foi a maior guitarrista de todos os tempos.Ela brincava no palco com o 🎸 instrumento.
Me gusta escucharla aun sin entenderla y no se diga los años que nos separan, yo soy del 62
the whole setting is so nostalgic...lucky are those who were there
What a voice...what energy...what talent!!!
How come we have been peddled Great British Bands and Artists since 1960's and this GENIUS performed under the radar of stardom.?
First of all, do you not realize this performance is *in* england. Second off all, if the british wave never happened, the greats like sister rosetta wouldve been forgotten to a great degree. Blues in america was becoming obsolete and forgotten until the brits started obsessing over it, learning to play it, and exposed it the world in a way that may have never happened otherwise. Brits appreciated black american musicians, and gave them credit, flying them to england to perform for waves of young audiences who appreciated and obsessed over their american blues, hence why Sister Rosetta is seen here performing in england. People need to understand that brits were important in renewing dying american blues music. Why else would howlin wolf and others had huge followings in europe.
I kinda see what you're saying, though. But america had a darker climate for black artists, especially for blues and raw stuff like this, so it the british wave had to be the catalyst for exposure to mainstream.
@@BSIII Yup.....you nailed it.....good call!
Ugly confederate influence would not allow us to witness and like creativity and art of people that they called animals. (!) Britain had no ugly south, so they got to hear it. And monkey see monkey do , the brits stole it, claimed they wrote it, and sold it right back to our ignorant country, all dressed up as whi.... uh, european. Then we were allowed to hear it.
cause americanos are funny about black people
We need more Rosetta’s today
Con Rosetta Tharpe posiblemente nació el Rock...La gran olvidada de la historia de la música Rock.
En fin que siempre es lo mismo...Muchas muchísimas partes de la historia de la música habría que reescribir las.
This is one of the best FEEL GOOD music video out there! This woman is TOTALLY COOL,even in today's standards she would be a hit! I just LOVE her !
Incredible talent to play and sing, I've fallen un love with this lady !!!😊
Forever Thanks Rosetta !!!
She's awesome ☺
I've sung this for years and never knew how it came into my head..always LOVED NinaSimone but this earlier version must be where I found mine!
I think Janice Joplin sang it, too.
I love Rosetta beautiful beautiful beautiful 👏👏👏🇧🇷
she is UNBELIEVABLE
I was in NYU and heard this for the first time from one of the students while we were taking a break. Neve knew it was a blues song!!.
So cool I listened to it twice, really liked her turnaround
What a great voice!
She could give me lessons any day and save me at the same time
How did they manage to capture the sound so well? The small guitar amplifier is under the wooden bench, behind her, apparently without a microphone. She is singing with a microphone in her outfit, just below her mouth. The wire goes into the pocket of your dress, but where is it connected? All instruments are audible and do not appear to be playing back. Mystery.
Das ist der Blues für mich.
many versions here. this is the best.
The Absolute Queen of Everything 💗🖤✔️
Best stage ever!!
The master Sister and her works. dont this hit you right down in your soul, this is eques to any great master painting of long ago. is sheer beauty cannot be beaten
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS 🙏 OHANA 🙏
I love you
Raw Strength and Beauty!
I also would urge anyone to listen to Sam 'Lightnin' Hopkins version - another great blues man, and his version is just...solid blues.
When you have music like this in your life as a performer, you are living in Heaven. This is the kind of artist I want to be, but a different category of art. Still, I want to be the same totally swinging chick on the planet where my work is concerned. She had that joyous thing. That's what I strive for. She's an inspiration.
I've been a totally swinging chick singer for decades, singing Blues, Jazz, Rock 'n' Roll and even improvisational/experimental stuff - in bands (some with horns), duos and trios. I'm also visual artist, filmmaker and vintage clotheshorse. Go for it!
Amazing 😮
2018. Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Wonderful.

It's a crime that she is not acknowledged as the mother of Rock 'n Roll.
Anyone know where this was recorded?
An amazing gig with various Blues legends brought over to Manchester, England 64 in response to the wave of interest in Blues music at the time. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/local-news/when-the-blues-train-rolled-into-chorlton-1049592

The more time goes by the weirder this gets . . . disused Manc railway station , done up with sacks of stuff and a rocking chair on one side , Beatniks and blues afficienados on the other , it's raining . .. . . .and awesome Blues musicians from the Mississippi Delta laying down some tunes . . . . .it's not normal is it . . . .?? . . 🤣

To keep some controversy going, TH-cam must employ 19 trolls whose job is to "Not Like" genius like this.
meh, not everybody likes the same thing.. genius or not. I like this, but don't care if someone else doesn't, I don't trouble myself with what others think, stay a lot happier this way

The Godmother of Rock & Roll.
Great guitar playing, but has anyone noticed she wasn't singing into a microphone?
What a voice.
Microphone was clipped to a collar of her coat. And you can notice that there is a cable sticked in a left pocked of a coat. It's visible expecially in othes shots of that show. Probably it was wireless system, even in those old days. I can't notice other cable on the floor other than guitar one.
But yeah, great voice and great singing.
It was the first time a radio mic had been used in England I seem to remember reading years ago. I remember watching this programme as an awestruck 14 year old. We all had a great interest in blues thanks to the likes of the Stones, who always credited their influences, the Animals, Yardbirds and others. Chris Barber was anther who paid for blues greats like Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and others to come over where a lot of them earnt more money than they had seen before and were amazed to see venues full of white people appreciating them. They also loved the respect they got at a time when there was segregation in the USA and they were treated like second class citizens.
What year was this? Kudos to the tech team because the sound quality is outstanding
The best
Ojala hubiese vivido en Upata...justo al lado de la teacher Loris.
When she does that laugh at 1:14 it sounds just like Eric Burdon’s laugh in Bring it on Home
OMG a slice of heaven
Wow💖💖💖💖🤗🤗🤗
Excellent for a Woman: she is one of a kind..
BADASS
1 never had trouble
Love this but gotta say worst clapping ever
now we know from whom Elvis style originated
Yes, and Big Mama Thornton did Hound Dog first. Check out the black & white video with her singing it and famous Blues guitarist/living legend Buddy Guy on guitar.
Not only Elvis...
But yes, Elvis had great taste and style.
Wow! What a voice! What a performer! I couldn't help but guess, and it looks like I was right, that the audience was mostly white "hipsters", or maybe beatniks? Or, pre-hippies? Just curious about how young people can catch onto something good before the older generation. I could be wrong. But, she is amazing!
A Godess.!!
Awesome
I'm blue
Omg!!!!
A que lindo vibra todo dentro cuando esta musica negra suena
Wow! Style of the Mahalia Jackson. In the time of Rev. Martin Luther King Junior.
Don't forget about Aretha Franklin
I keep expecting a train to ride through the station when she sings about "pacifying her mind."
Troublin' mind. Not, trouble in. South Speak.
How is this almost 9 years old and only has 171,410 views???
It's at 194,000 now, 6 months later.
