  • Caitlin Clark captures second straight Honda Cup Award
Caitlin Clark, a standout player for the Iowa Hawkeyes, has once again made history by winning her second consecutive Honda Cup Award. This prestigious honor caps a college career filled with record-breaking achievements and highlights her immense impact on women’s college basketball.
During her time at Iowa, Clark shattered numerous records, cementing her legacy as one of the sport's all-time greats. She became the Division I career points record holder, amassed the most points in a single women’s college basketball season, and maintained the highest career points per game average. Additionally, she set records for the most 3-pointers in a single season and the most career 3-pointers in women’s college basketball history. Clark also became the all-time women’s NCAA Tournament career points leader. Her extraordinary performances not only brought national attention to Iowa women’s basketball but also inspired future generations of players.
Clark’s back-to-back Honda Cup victories place her among an elite group of athletes, including Maya Moore (2010, 2011), Tracy Caulkins (1982, 1984), and Rachel Garcia (2019, 2021), who have achieved this feat. The Honda Cup Award, presented annually by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) for the past 48 years, honors the top women athletes across 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports. It recognizes superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to community service.
In her acceptance speech, shared by CBS Sports' “We Need To Talk,” Clark expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the significance of the award. "Yeah, I think it’s pretty special. I know how important this award is and how many great people have come before me like you mentioned. Maya Moore was my idol growing up, so now to be on the same list as her, it’s pretty absolutely incredible," she said. Clark credited her coaches and teammates for their support, stating, "Obviously, my coaches are there tonight accepting on my behalf. It doesn’t happen without them, those two there and the rest of our coaching staff. But also the teammates I had throughout the years. They kind of let me be myself, so I wouldn’t have got to the point I got to if it wasn’t for them. It’s just really special."
Clark concluded by celebrating her fellow athletes, "This award definitely means a lot. It’s a first-class award. And then, congratulations to all of you, especially the finalists. I’m big fans of all of yours. I watch as much women’s sports, just as much as anybody, so congratulations."
Clark’s remarkable achievements have not only elevated her status in collegiate athletics but have also significantly contributed to the prominence and recognition of women’s sports. The Honda Cup Award, established in 1976, continues to honor exceptional NCAA women athletes, and Clark’s consecutive wins highlight her as a true standout in the field.
