    You could have just flipped the car upside down to fiberglass the glovebox subwoofer enclosure 😅 beautiful, mad scientist stuff mate!

    @Pssound
    Peter, I hate trying to lay fiberglass mat "upside down" as well! 😵‍💫 So there are low heat moldable thermoplastic sheets available (think 1/16"-1/8" thick ABS) that I use to mold the shape of the cavity first.
    You use a heat gun and follow behind it with a damp cloth to quickly cool and set the plastic into shape as you go. Check your local plastics supplier or Amazon & eBay.
    You can then use the resulting plastic form as a mold to lay up and wet that section of your fiberglass enclosure.
    It adds another step but is relatively quick, and you don't have to mask off the area with tape or aluminum foil which is a PITA and time consuming. You just can't mix your resin too hot or the moldable plastic sheet will lose its shape, LOL.
    You can do this with 1/16" thick ABS sheet just to try it. Use a short telescoping pole or rod (like a short, adjustable camera monopod) to help hold the sheet in place. Get one with lever locks instead of twist collar locks. Works a treat to quickly reset and hold the moldable plastic sheet in place as you go.

    "For most people it would take ages" this made me laugh :) The wooden boxes in my doors with midrange took me over 6 month's, working in free time. But it was definitely worth! Front sub may be the next half year project :)
    Nice video, Nice build.
    Im very interested if the W7 can keep up with the acoustic elegance in IB.

    Peter you need a thin ripping jig you can by them from Amazon or ebay.

    • @bbfoto7248
      @bbfoto7248 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @William Hancock
      Or make one. There's no shortage of DIY Woodworking TH-cam videos showing how to make a small parts/thin rip cutting jig.
      The key is to find a way to clear each small piece away from the saw blade as it is cut (chop/miter saw or table saw), otherwise, these small pieces vibrate or drift back into the blade and become projectiles, or you risk losing a finger reaching in to grab them.
      I use a stream of compressed air to blow them clear of the blade, and then they drop into a 5-gal bucket as they are cut. But even that doesn't always work depending on the size, shape, and weight of the material.

    Dinamica is the (little bit) cheaper version of Alcantara… 😉 Both are microfibre cloths.
    Alcantara sued the in front of the court so they have to rename their stuff, now it’s Dinamica.

    Peter, will you be selling the front sub enclosure as a diy kit?😉

    • @bbfoto7248
      @bbfoto7248 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @AcidDeathRitual
      First off, what's your TH-cam name all about, mate??? LOL?
      Second...though I doubt it would be profitable for this particular vehicle, Peter could take the front subwoofer glove box enclosure to get 3D Scanned and converted to a CAD file, and then have it roto-injection molded on-demand like the JL Stealthbox enclosures. That would be expensive, too. But so is 70+ hours of labor + the materials, as well as being hazardous to your health, LOL. He could be using that time to work on a different install (or complete this one sooner) to make more profit....i.e. Time is money.

      @@bbfoto7248 Nah, I want exact one to one 150 piece puzzle set. Otherwise it would be a shallow imitation.
      Also, in my lands we sacrifice incels to a cauldron of organic dragon stomach acid so that the world won't end. We usually get together around 7 o'clock every Friday. Most people just wear their good gambeson, but I usually rock mail and cuirass ever since that time Sven got some nasty splash back.

    Hey man do you have a sled for your tablesaw??? I just bought the Dewalt dwe 7492 and i always make a sled for every tablesaw..you can very easily and fast make small part that are supported and safe because you can use a pencil and keep your fingers away…And the Dewalt is worth the money because of rack and pinion fence…

    I know you explained why the tweeters are in the sail panel because of the competition rules. But, are there any advantages to this placement? And where do you think would be the best place to locate them given no limits or rules to follow.

    Hi Peter, can we say that like the JL, the Morel Ultimo, like in the Porsche Macan build a couple of months ago, is the closest to an IB sub?
    And by the way, what would you prefer as a front sub; 10WM or an Aliante 12 if the price for an Accuton is to steep for someone?

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That Cayenne had the Ultimo 12, indeed, very accurate, musical sub, but can’t deliver the effortless extension below 25Hz, but that doesn’t matter for most people as 25-100Hz is way more important. Some JL subs can play proper low in sealed and stay musical, but the tightness and accuracy of something like a Morel Ultimo is difficult to match.
      Btw what subs we prefer for front and rear duty is covered in multiple weekly topics on our Patreon channel where i break it down properly. Don’t have time to answer 20+ messages daily.

    • @umtbozkr2358
      @umtbozkr2358 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Pssound Peter, thank you for your answer. I realize that you are very busy. You have developed skills and knowledge that only a few other people achieved.
      I tried to be Patreon a while ago, but I don't know what I did wrong, but I couldn't get it right.
      I will make a new attempt to be Patreon this weekend.
      I started car audio mid nineties as a hobby with success. For a long time, I couldn't find the time to go through with it.
      The main reason I asked the question about the front subwoofer is that I want to build my installation for my 2014 F11 BMW and leave the tuning over to you.
      I already got all the hardware I need. I have two Morel 4 Ohms for the rear. Only I can't choose between my Focal 10WM and my Aliante 12 as a front woofer. They have both upsides and downsides.
      The reason I asked the question is that I want to install my hardware and leave the tuning over to you. That's easier for me because I am from the Netherlands and the car is my company car which I use for my business.
      In the past, I used the Alpine H701 processor and the program Praxis from Liberty X. But now I have bought a Helix Ultra, which is much more challenging than the Alpine. I've got REW on my laptop, but honestly, it's very different in comparison to Praxis.
      So that was the reason I asked you the question.
      Good night Peter

    I’ve seen you’ve worked on a ton of Mercedes vehicles and I have a particular question about them. I have a rd 500/1 with a jl w3 with a lc2i pro in my 2022 c300 and sometimes my output is noticeably lower but other times it can get louder. One day I get into the car and it sounds just fine but when I get back it sounds weaker. My dealership says the battery is fine and I got the sub installed at a reputable shop.

    • @noncog1
      @noncog1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try to figure out how to reliably recreate the problem, then have the shop look at it
      Is it per chance a source dependant issue, or are you always listening to the same source. Also, the mix and master track to track etc
