I don't think there was any romantic attraction between FDR and Princess Martha. I think it was more of a deep and respectful friendship between two people who were trying to protect their countries and the people they loved.

one of the better historic dramas on pbs. all the characters were played beautifully and the photography, scenarios were all equal in excellence.

This is really a story of survival and great love between princess Martha and prince Olav and the tests of separation and burdens of leadership.
To me FDR creeped on her from the beginning - he definitely wanted her.
Her - I think she saw him as a good friend, and emotions become tangled when you are in a place. She wanted her husband, and he was so hurt that his wife could have developed feelings for this other man he kept away from her and their children for years.
Clearly that was a terrible mistake and he was lucky that ultimately she was still willing to be with him and they were able to rebuild their life together.
I also think Martha ultimately used FDR to get what she wanted for Norway. And her husband did not realize how dangerous of a game it would be.
