- I was given a BMW E30 M3 to cruise around London for the day and I took it down to the Gumball 3000 London leg on Regents Street!

The first road car to come from M devision was the M1 in 1978 followed by the M535i in 1979. The E30 M3 came almost 10 years after these two so was not the first M car.

loved way the wheel archers flared out when I first saw them as a kid pretty much the same as the lancia delta EVO of the era .loved the lancia more it was a giant killer especially in the twistes

The M3 E30 is probably my 3rd-2nd favourite car of all time. In that orange looks stunning, and the sound is just orgasmic AF. Nice video Becky!!!
PS: In case you want to know it, my favourite car is the F40.

This was such an outstanding video! The E30 M3 is also a dream car of mine but I'm currently looking for an E30 325i for my first car. I am just hooked classic BMWs in general. The look, the sound, everything is just perfect!

The very first BMW "M" car was the M1 E26 (1979-81) (which is also their first supercar), and then the M6 E24. The M3 E30 was launched in 1986 and then produced from 1986 and 1992.

It may of been the first badged as M, but the 2002 turbo is where it all started. I'd love one of them.

Cars I See the 2002 turbo was out of production before the M1 was conceived.
Also just noticed I missed the 3 out of my first post. But she was talking first M3, but I'd argue the 2002 turbo was the first m3, it just didn't have the name.

+Cars I See you are right, as the 2002 never had am M, but the turbo would have been. Plus I heard a story somewhere, that the guys what worked on the turbo was later to form the Motor Sport division.
The timings make this believable, ad the 2002 went out of production in 78 and the M1 was released 79ish.
Tbh I cant recall where I heard that tale, so it could be rubbish. Knowing me I could of dream't it 😴

Americans we know that you only had the M535i E28, but in Europe the first M car was the M1 with the M88 engine, which was later used in the E28 to create the M5. Therefore, the first M car is either the M1 or if you want the E28 M5. The E30 M3 was the first M car using an "S" motor, the S14.
Also this specific example is extremely vandalised. I mean, E30 M3 on bags? Redone interior when it originally had the checker seats? Cmon... If you really appreciate the "classics" you keep them stock.

I also drive a Mercedes 280SE Coupe from 1967 around Amsterdam. The Gumball Coupe had a AMG V8 in it build by Mechatronic. Sub zero indeed : )

I nearly died when I saw the Jager E30 M3... But 19's and air ride? :( I'm not a purist (my E36 is far from pure) but.. That kinda takes away the motorsport side of things :( it's beautiful don't get me wrong, but I couldn't bring myself to Air an M3 on 19s :/
