The immersion blender is by far one of my favorite kitchen gadgets. I have never seen nor heard that method before. Crazy to see that it worked, as i honestly didnt think it would. Learn something new all the time
i know, i was surprised too which is why i love experimenting. I think the key are tiny hard seeds with soft insides...hmmm maybe i'll try tomatoes too. you may refer to me as the seed queen now.
hi Mary, YES! you can use the seeds right away..the problem is that planting seeds from a grocery store tomatillo isn't a good idea. The reason is that it is 99% sure to be a hybrid...hybrids are a cross between 2 different parent plants to grow their 'child' plant with certain characteristics. If you plant hybrid seeds, the plant will revert back to one of it's parent plants and might (might) give you some fruit the first year...any seeds saved again won't produce anything. The best course of action and what I do is by Heritage, Heirloom or Open Pollinated fruit (in your case tomatillos)...you rarely find these in a grocery store...perhaps at the occational farmers market...(interestingly you can find Heirloom tomatoes in the grocery store but that's not what you are asking about)...so I would just not waste your time by planting the store tomatillo and buy some seed from a reputable online retailer and make sure it's Herloom, Heritage or OP. Good Luck to you and I'll point you toward MIGardener (he has a good YT channel too) and he has the best Heirloom seed prices in the business...all his seeds are Heirloom: migardener.com/products/rio-grande-verde-tomatillo?_pos=1&_sid=b54419c64&_ss=r
I just cut up the fruit and place it in a bottle of water shake until the seeds are loose and pour off the pulp and water then place seed on paper towel till dry and save in envelopes...
Make sure you mash up pulp and seed then put in bottle with 2/3 water place lid on shake real good let set for day or two everytime you walk by give it another shake ...lol pulp flots and seeds sink to bottom pure off water and pulp rinse seed in colander... dry about a week then place in envelope..
great eye! one of my favorite kitchen tools....it's a stacking cruet set (it has 3 bottles so I use oil, vinegar and soy sauce...but the soy bottle is somewhere else right then) I believe it's handmade and Italian...got it as a gift. If you ask Mr Google to show you 'stacking Cruet set" you'll see a bunch of different types. They were really popular in the 20's and after.... Makes an swesome gift...I hope you make some...they are hard to find.
you've never heard of Tomatillo's? WHAT? don't you eat Mexican food? any of the green sauces are made from tomatillos. very similar to a green tomato with citrus notes. I make salsa verde (green sauce) and enchilada sauce from them as well. Salsa Verde recipe coming up soon. You guys will like it. I grown them in my grow zone of 8a...not sure what comparable grow/hardiness zone is in your area..but suspect they will...you will really like them. If you email me your address I'll send you some seeds (and the swiss chard I owe you) for the shire. OldSchoolPreparer@gmail.com
My Tomatillo didn’t come back this year... don’t they have a tendency to re-seed themselves like a dill plant? I guess I’ll have to replant it this coming Spring
they don't easily reseed themselves as they can't handle the cold that well, they prefer warm weather. I am trying burying some whole tomatillo's to see if that can over winter but I have doubts.
old school prepper thanks! My neighbor has one that seems to make it through the winter (I’m in South Carolina), but mine die off. I’ll plan to replant. Appreciate the help! 🙏

that's awesome that works for you....i'll have to give it a try!

Also works well with tomato seed and strawberry and blueberries any seed that's small enough to fit in 16 or 20oz bottle...

@@PreppingWithSarge just an FYI you need two plants to get fruit. they don't self pollinate so they need a partner
