The solderless connection is so awesome. I'd honestly love a set of fishmans but they seem impossible to install and you can't beat a classic 81 man. It's the metal/shred sound. Very helpful video my guy
I agree! The solderless EMG system is so much better than their old system! I love classic EMGs, but I really want to try a v set of Fishmans! Cheers brotha!
Yeah EMGs are easy to install except routing out a battery compartment while with a strat or guitar that has a backplate you can do a stealth install where it looks like it has no battery.
i bought a emg 81 2-3 yrs ago,,,and never installed it,,as i didnt know you couldnt mix them,,and i rarely use the front p-up,,so i am gonna install it in my prs,,or lp,,or strat??? cant wait to hear it into my tube amps,,great video
Hi sir, i have emg 85 pickup and want to install it to my strat too. can u advice me, whats are the parts should i prepare? example like: battery holder, stereo input jacks with 4 solder lugs?? or is it same with this video?
Hey there. If you buy a new pickup, it will come with everything you need. The pickup, stereo output jack (3-lug), new 25K pots (needed for EMGs) wiring etc. it’s all plug together so it’s very easy. Good luck!
I put 2 batterys, 18v conversion in middle pickup position. They last 3000 hours, so no need for easy access. EVen if only half that. The fun part is dremeling out the body.
@@starbattles1 One 9v is more than enough for me. EMGs absolutely deliver. There really are no pickups as well made and well designed. They cover all the territory of music and, when you think about it, they are like an amp inside your guitar because of the built in preamp. You just have so much more range with these things. Do you play metal?
EMG absolutely RULES! I've got a PRS with the 81/89 set and they absolutely DEMOLISH any other pickups out there. Nothing beats EMG for clarity, articulation, sustain, noise control, output retention, etc. There are a lot of great pickups out there and I've owned them all, but EMG broke new ground when they released the 81 upon the guitar world and things have never been the same. I've had both Duncan and DiMarzio actives, and even a Bill Lawrence in an ax with a built in preamp. NOTHING even comes close to EMG. From crystal clear to volcanic lava tsunamis of gain, they've got it all locked down. They are truly space age creations.
I recently bought an 81 with the solderless wiring for my partscaster, and I'm running into an issue: the stereo output jack is too large for the jack cavity on the strat body. It fits unwired, but when wired up, the assembly takes up too much space and makes it impossible to mount the jack plate. I imagine this can be solved with a dremel, but is this typically necessary on a strat with EMGs? It is a Squier body, if that matters.
I only want to replace my bridge (passive) humbucker, so do I have to use the knob stuff that comes with the EMG or can i just unplug the current humbucker and put the EMG?
I have a Strat too and was wondering the same thing. That's why I'm considering getting an emg 81 for the bridge and emg S, or maybe SA, for the neck and middle.
Hey there. I’m just about to install an 85 as a single pickup in my American strat. The thing is I bought the Zakk Wylde set so I got the 85 and 81. My question is can I just use the wires in the set to wire the one pick up in? I can’t seem to find a diagram to do so, do I just follow this vid? My pick guard will be here in 4 days.
Hey there. Yes, you can follow this video. It’s real easy, just connect the pickup to the pickup cable, then the other side of that pickup cable has black/white wires with a plug and a red wire. Connect the black and white to a volume knob, then connect a cable from the volume to the output jack. Now connect the red wire to the red wire of the battery clip using the red plastic connecting piece. Now all you have to do is follow the directions on how to wire the output jack 🤘🏼 good luck. Email me Mark@guitarguts.com if you need more help.

Thanks bro, i just decided to pick a strat and equip it with emg. This video is going to be' super helpful. Subscribed.
Is there any chance of showing a 2 pickup installation on a strat? I'm curious where the board you plug the cables into would go under the pick guard
3:52 which direction should the lock washer face? with the ridges toward the pick guard or toward the pot?
Nice video. quick and concise!
+Rigid Records thank you!!
Well I'm planning on putting the EMG Het Set in my Silvertone SS11 or I'm just going to do one EMG 81.
Hi brilliant video....where can I purchase the pre wired pick ups please.... thanks
Helpful for me, Thank you my friend !
You’re welcome 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Yeah I remember Zakk Wylde got Dimebags tone out of EMG's without using a Bill Lawrence L500XL.
this reminds me of building a pc

I have an American fender strat with stock pickups. I would like to add the emg 81 to the bridge and keep the other pickups intact. Is that possible?

The Hidden Hand no you'd have to get emg single coils I tried it and it ruined the emg sound just disconnect them
Can a EMG pickup be wood mounted?
Was that a special pickguard or a normal one you can get on Amazon?
where i can buy one humbucker pickguard like yours?
The Stratosphere
@@Highrollinhunter just bought from Mars
Your voice reminds me of chuck from death that's a compliment btw
Hell yeah! When I heard his voice the first time I thought he was a Cali guy, but he’s from Florida. We have that beach style to how we talk.
I am looking for this diagram and can't find it
Works but now when I acitvate my distortion pedal in the clean channel it's still a clean sounds... help
Something isn’t right. Can you send me a photo of the wiring? @guitarguts on IG or Mark@guitarguts.com

You should've taken the plastic cover off the guard before mounting that pot.
My pickup has a small dent in the bottom corner. Is this normal?
+PYROmaniaC doesn't sound normal to me, but it may not even effect the pickup... strange.
is the pickup active
+guitarist_ 2004 yes it is
I'm about to order one, what size route did you use to fit the emg? I can't tell if it's the trembucker or humbucker routing option.
Its a normal humbucker size for the routing.
