@@servethesongs he gives, I have no doubt about that. I personally find it rather disgusting that people of fortunate circumstances give and then spend all their time telling anyone who'll listen, about how giving and how generous they are. Alex Lifeson, if you are familiar with anything he shares about himself, makes no bones about how fortunate he is. That he can still present a relatable version of himself knowing there will always be someone somewhere that that isn't enough for, is really awesome. He buys guitars, so do I, he's not saying buying guitars is some feat of greatness, it's just what he does, and whatever his reasons are, he can buy guitars and feel OK about. Don't presume to know what anyone, rich or poor is going thru, living with or trying to cope with. Stay safe and well ✌️ 🎶 🎶

It makes me feel good, to know that Lerxst is at a place in life where he is aware that his guitars have value as a result of his owning them. And he can casually consider selling most of them for the good of others. He deserves that. He has always impressed me.

You three contributed so much to the backdrop of my life from the time I was a boy, when I first heard you until today. The first concert I ever went to was Grace Under Pressure and I was frankly mesmerized by musicality, power and sheer brilliance that came from three little figures on that stage that stood only a few hundred feet from my teenage eyes and ears. If I knew where to send it - I'd send you and Geddy a written letter of my thanks and maybe even an original, little song to two of the nicest and most talented musicians I've ever had the pleasure of listening to in my life. God Bless you, Geddy and your families and Neil's family as well!

I’m a huge Lifeson fan. I’ve always played a lot like him and in my mid 40s started a moderately successful Rush tribute band,at a point when joining another original band was of no interest.
Another similarity here. I have a modest guitar collection but I’d never owned or been interested in a Tele. A friend gave me one he no longer wanted.
I assumed I’d probably just sell it and buy a really nice bottle of wine to drink with him, but I found I LOVED playing it.
I have a Les Paul, a white Sheraton (poor man’s Lifeson 355), two Strats and a cheap shredder style guitar I use of a song with alternate tuning (Between the Wheels).
When I want to just sit with a guitar, improvise along with unfamiliar movie soundtracks, or develop an idea, that’s the go-to.
Totally get why Alex and Jimmy love em.

Page only really used the tele on the first album . After led zepplein 1 page did not use the tele agian until led zeppelin 4 for the stairway solo and that is the only tele on zepplein 4. After led zeppelin 1 there is more fender strat used than there is tele . Physical graffiti presence and in through the outdoor had a fair bit of stat on them but even those Albums were more les paul than anything else . Pages use of the tele after led zeppelin 1 is a wildly exaggerated internet myth . Pages dragon teller was destroyed in 1969 after page retired it from the road . A friend of his repainted it without his permission and destroyed the electronic so that only the neck pickup worked. So it was not really usable except for stairway which was recorded on the neck pickup in the late 70s he replaced the dragon tele with a brown tele and put the dragon tele neck on it .

If Alex wants to save the world by donating his guitars, he should award them to worthy musicians for them to be played and inspire musicians into the future... not sold to the highest fat cat bidders as a trophies.
Some of the planet's best Strats are now in Japanese tycoons collections, never to see a stage ever again. And in this digital world, we need real musicians more than ever. You should pass your torches (guitars) on to them- after all, it's about the music.

I agree somewhat, I'm sure he wants the hard cash to go to these charities which is noble but as he stated these are tools of the trade and it would be nice to see these wonderful guitars played instead of just admired. I had an EVH Wolfgang (I'm a crap guitarist) that just sat around and finally sold it because I felt bad for the guitar not wailing as it should. Such a wonderful humble man considering his stature in the world of rock music. It angers me when I hear he is an underrated guitarist, I just laugh because he is the platinum standard for what a guitarist and bandmate should be. Alex was in a band with the finest of drummers and bassists rock has ever seen and it goes without saying he is right there with them. No one element was more important than the other.

Crazy. I have a poster from the late 70’s with him playing a Strat Every other time I have seen them live or in pictures never a Fender. Always understood the tonal difference. In the 80’s my band always had that great guitar tone cause I played a Strat through a Twin and the other played a Les Paul thru a Marshall. A great blend.

I never have been able to own or buy whatever guitar I wanted. I always had to get whatever I could get and work with that. Still to this day, I have 7 guitars, one being a 5 string bass, and none of them would be considered high quality. The best ones I would be lucky to get $200 for them. But I wouldn't sell them, because I use them all. Some of them are warped from humidity, some of them I had to redo the electronics myself to make them a little better.

Oh my god! I would LOVE to have ANY one of Alex's guitars. I've been listening to them for over 40 years, have about 7 guitars of my own, and 4 or 5 of them are essentially 'copies' of the types of guitars Alex played, or were built to elicit a specific 'sound'. For example, I built an SG shaped guitar, with a fender style neck, ebony fretboard, Bill lawrence l500 rail pickups, cts pots, and locking tuners. I use Dean Markley blue steel strings on it, and the back of the body is bubinga (african rosewood) and the cap is western Canadian big leaf curly maple. It has real gibson jack and switch and it sounds so sweet. Deep ballsy lows, yet, crisp mids and highs. I'd had a dream that I got to sit with Alex for a few hours and let him play my homemade guitar and he offered to trade one of his guitars for it. Strange dream, but almost like I got a real visit with one of my primary influences. I'd love to sit and chat with Alex for an hour.. so many questions, and he's so entertaining too.

Where almost none of his guitars are from the late 50s and early 60s you could probably got some of his guitars for a quite reasonable price . If I could have one of his guitars its would be his mid 70s tobacco sunburst les paul standard that he used on all the worlds a stage . For me tone wise that guitar is right up there with pages number 1 burst . Even though it's what vintage snobs would call an undesirable norlin era les paul . Those 1974 and 75
Tobbacco sunburst standards are killer sounding guitars and can be had for very reasonable prices in fact they can be had for alot less than a custom shop les paul . He also has an early 2000s 58 led paul plain top reiisue that I thought was one of the best sounding modern les Paul's I have heard . He uses that guitar on the making of 2112 DVD as well as on every live release starting with the one from Brazil in 2003 .
