  • Are you stocking up on food? At Just Do Something Homestead we are now in full speed ahead mode. For 60 days we are going to stock up on something every single day! It may be canning, freezing, vacuum sealing, dehydrating, or even shopping and putting up cans of food. Are you going to join the challenge? Today Deb introduces the challenge and shows you how to get started.

Oh, I'm sorry you had to give that up, but I don’t think I could have done both! I rely on my VERY local farmers market when I have crop failures or just not quite enough for a canning recipe. It's handy, and I know I can count on the quality. My squash, cukes, and cantaloupe just all recently decided to produce (🤨), so I guess I'll be watering! My tomatoes completely petered out. I got VERY little. But a friend and my sister-in-law offered me tomatoes, and my friend offered me green beans, so I got those canned. I'm doing some serious seed-saving this year, because we just don't know! Blessings to you, Deb!

I was the last vendor at my farmers market. Each week there were less and less vendors. Then I was down to just 3 or 4 customers. I’m still in contact with those few. But it wasn’t worth the work involved to keep going.
Now I can focus on preserving my crops.
It’s been a tough gardening year for sure. Yep my garden is just starting to give me summer squash too. I wish you luck and never, ever give up!

I agree I’m feeling we all need to stock up for the coming months. My small garden was a flop due to heat this summer.

@@teeser2436 My garden struggled for months. I kept replanting and hoping. It’s now supplying enough for us but not enough for the farmer’s market. But I can catch up. Tomorrow I’ll can more potatoes. Ask around. You may find some inexpensive produce yet this season. Never give up!

Mine suffereed also😩. I have an apartment patio here in south Texas…and the heat was devastating to my tomatoes.
The bell peppers did good though, just thankful for what I’ve learned NOW instead of LATER❤

I think it’s more important than ever to start filling your pantry. If nothing happens, then we were prepared. But I’m not willing to risk not being prepared.
      Thanks for watching!

My 104 yr old farmer friend, told me, that when you have a bumper crop of anything, preserve it.
Next yr you might get the harvest that you want.
When preserving veg or fruits, they will hold you over till you harvest more. Just a thought.
    Blessings

@@JudyShrouds I absolutely agree with all that! I’ll be preserving all I can. A slow start is better than no start!

I am feeling this need to stock up as well. I have been expanding my pantry stock, but my garden has been disappointing, so I am doing many of the same things you are doing. Thanks for the encouragement! My dixty days start tomorrow. 😊

I’m going to do a little of everything. My pantry is a huge mess because we’re going to rip out the shelves, move them to a better wall, and add some free cabinets that I got. But it takes time. And one thing I never have enough of is time. lol.
But sometimes you can’t wait for the perfect timing. So I’ll start prepping today.

Great job preserving food! Plus you control what’s in it. I wish more people understood the importance of canning. Thanks so much for watching!
