If you think this is awesome you should have seen her perform live!!! Oh my God...Sister Collins made frequent visit to my family church in Olive Branch MS......I was 5 then and now I'm in my late 40thies now and still being blessed by her spirit and music. She didn't just sing these praises she lived by them too. I miss mother Collins and very saddened that all of accomplishments isn't being recognized. She paved the way for a lot of gospel singers...Lee Williams......The Williams Brothers and many more to mention. Orlando I certainly hope you are continuing this wonderful journey that your mom left behind(we worked together at WS).

texasjohnnyboy you missed it..... i was one of a very very few who traveled extensively with her... ate at her house, knew her like a Big Sister..... She was Pure Gold in Gospel Singing.... Never to be Duplicated..... Shirley Caesar is the closest performer to her, and yet no comparison..... People literally passed out, fainted, lost it often as she was coming to the stage to perform... Never seen anything or anybody like her since. Glad I had her in my life......and still have all but one record that she recorded..... I don't have "Deep Down In My Heart"
I'm glad to hear your brief story that, obviously, holds first hand depth. I'd never heard of Lula before but, once I came across this tune, it really caught my attention. I kept going back to this tune as one that was setting the pace. It lays it on the line and tells ya how it's supposed to be done. The substance in her voice comes with all the aspects of being the real deal. She eats the "blue note" alive and she gives it back to ya and right from her heart... the way it's supposed to be done. Because she had no use for glamour and glitz, she was on the bottom and she was so very strong that she could hold up the top. I can hear it in her voice..... and so could those people that passed out, fainted and lost it as she would be approaching the stage to perform. I can't tell ya how much I think of this woman's voice. It's amongst the very finest I have ever heard. Her huge foundation makes other's glamour & glitz look like a sin.
