- FIRST TIME WINTER CAMPING (in New Zealand's 3RD POOREST region!) ✨ | S01E08
In this episode, I go winter camping for the first time ever, and I do it in the third poorest region of New Zealand. Stopping first through the city of Gisborne near the East Cape of New Zealand, I then make my way up to Tatapouri Bay. I try to push myself by going hiking in the rain but end up learning a big lesson.

P.S. What's one off-beat place you want to visit in New Zealand? (Maybe I'll give it a wee look & make a video!!!) 💜
I camped for 4 years on Oriental Pde, Welligton, in a non self contained 1996 Toyota Estima with my partner…that was still our home and having my coffee staring at the sunrise on the harbour is priceless. I learned that you don’t need much to be happy. Get dressed prepared for work in a humid van in winter isn’t fun but we get used to it. Cooking simple meals at the back of the van with welly wind was also pretty challenging. Good on you to get out of your comfort zone.
I feel that. Sometimes less is actually more. Problem is we get sucked into what everyone around us has and got, and very soon we forget we can survive on less.
Glad you enjoyed the video. 💜💜💜
Just wonderful, when the snow melts, thanks to you I have 2 new Colorado hot springs to
explore. I am so happy I found you again. Next visit to Colorado venture over to NM for some fun hot springs adventures.
Yay! Glad you enjoyed! I do love me some hot springs, and I hear NM has many many of them! 💜💜💜
Hiya, that was a nice watch very audatious imdeed (winter camping)🤣😂:), i remember my grandfather telling me "you won't find the answers you seek if you don't take risks" leap of faith so to speak, obviously you've chosen nz and all that it is as a tool or plateform to find who you are, I wish you all the best and hope your stay in nz works out thanks for sharing, remember new zealands all about the journey not the distanation❤
Thanks so much for this kind comment! Indeed, NZ has become my home. Can’t wait to qualify for citizenship early next year!!!!
You’re grandfather sounds wise. 💜💜💜
Ha ha, you have to be a bit mad to camp in winter in NZ. It’s tough. Cold, wet windy, empty. I admire your pluck. You really do need good gear, and plenty of warm clothes and ensure you have good thermals! Makes such a difference to your comfort and state of mind.
Haha. Just went out this weekend too. 😅 and yes, definitely a bit mad. The goal is to eventually work up to tramping in somewhere. Used to do that all the time, but it’s been a while. 💜
Enjoying seeing the New Zealand countryside. Hope you recover from your trip. Loved this video!
It’s such a diverse country for how small it is! I’m continuously seeing new landscapes!! So glad you enjoyed the video!! 💜💜💜
I’m definitely feeling better lately! 🙏
Beautiful...❤ not a bad place also...😉
Dawww, thank you! 💜💜💜
Is good to go off grid and travel off the beat'n track and explore NZs outback country life
Indeed! It’s almost a completely different world. We’re so isolated and in our bubble in Auckland!!
Hang in there girl.
NZ is a different place when it is not raining every single day.
Signs are we are going to have a long hot summer.
We will get a chance of equinoctial gales until October.
After that blues sky light winds and fair sailing till April / May.
Northland east coast Early December when the Pohutukawa are in full flower.
Blue water, white sand, black rocks and crimson flowers .
The sheer beauty will leave indelible marks on your soul.
Two camp grounds I would suggest are Matauri Bay and Houhora Harbour.
Heya! thanks so much for this encouragement! I am so super stoked about the predicted sunny weather to come, though I imagine there's some mixed feelings from those who have suffered this past year from the ample flooding.
I have added those two to my list. Thanks so much for sharing! You're a fellow sailor I imagine?? 💜💜💜

lived aboard a 45' ketch for five years Sailed it to Fiji and back two up.
When you said sailors often talk fondly of the bad times it struck a cord.
When we sailed back from Fiji we had thirty to forty knots over the deck for six days straight.
Broad reach under double reefed main Yankee jib and reefed mizen.
Sitting watch alone in the early hours knowing there was nothing and no one for many hundreds of miles except out little vessel as the boat surfed down huge waves was terrifying .At the same time it was one of my lives most awesome experiences .
@@martinsmallwood9605 I completely resonate with this description!!! I head out to do my third Fiji/NZ crossing in two weeks and I am so stoked for those moments!! I love being at sea!
What kind of ketch was she? I’ll be on a fairly new Jeanneau 52 with two of my patrons.
💜
Loving your content and these missions you go on, am waiting for Tongariro Crossing 😊
Yayyy! So glad you're enjoying this! It's been a fun personal journey. Tongariro is tentatively scheduled for October if I get back from my ocean crossing in time!!!! But who knows about weather, aye! 💜💜💜
You are living a awesome life and dream good for you
Awww, thank you. Haha, I'm about to go out this weekend for camping!!!! I can't get enough of the outdoors!!! 💜💜💜

Haha, thanks. Definitely going out more prepared next time!!! 💜💜💜
Sending you good vibes for the upcoming weekend!
Daniella, I replied to your reply comment to my comment on your recent community post.
I saw that! I hope you enjoyed this episode :-)
❤
Dawww, thanks! Hope you guys are well. Big hugs your way. 💜💜😘
Cool video.. how are you liking the Feldon tent, i'm looking for an RTT and that and the Bushbuck are on my short list.
I’m not familiar with the other brands, but love the feldon. We stuck an old xtra layer of microfoam in there for comfort and she still easily folds up. Lots of welll thought out features. Happy camping! 😊 💜
Hot water bottles! 2 or more in winter 😂
Hehe. I had plenty of hot water. Do you mean in your bed to warm it up? Haha… I was grossly unprepared! 💜
Awesome content
Yayyy! Thank you so much! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!! You liking the pushing myself aspect or the local NZ info? 💜
@@TheAudaciousPath Thanks madam
Good edit. Not just another pretty face. Well done.
Haha. Thanks? This face is about to be reconstructed to deal with a jaw issue, so episodes will get progressively more interesting. See how I can adventure while healing! 💜
