don't worry about people saying I want to hear a cold start because it not worth tearing up your equipment to please them just start it with that pack running sounds better and you don't have to wait long for that heat either.
Beat me to it. Exactly what I was thinking. Until somebody drives up with that $500-$600 starter with a mechanic to change it, I wouldn't do it. Won't be tearing up my stuff just to appease a stranger on TH-cam. Second thought, I wouldn't do it then either.
As another person has said, don't worry about tha Na Sayers! You do You! But that plow load is bonkers,,,,,lot's of Creativity in that one......Safe Travels!
I loved coming and going west. Drive, sleep, drive, sleep, maximize my day I would start my day getting up at 5:am eastern. Being out west made it easier to find a place to park at the end of the days driving. Thumbs up 👍
Drilled oil/gas wells in the late 70's. Rawlins/Rock Springs/Evanston. No regrets as it was some prime landscapes out there. Always look forward to returning any chance I get.
Yep, Orwell fired up nice, easy, and fast with the Green APU keeping the engine warm and the batteries at maximum charge. Don't go doing any more of those cold starts. I smashed that "Like" button like you would not believe! I smashed it so hard that there in now a hole in my monitor.
That mountain might have been, what we call Eisenhower, because of the tunnel. I believe it’s official Loveland Pass. However, you would have to jump onto Hwy 6 to go over it. All hazmat loads have to take it. Once was running with a driver I met running west and he had hazmat. It’s so beautiful up there, I take it in the summer if I have the time.
Good ol' Laramie WY. Lived there winter of 00-01 when I went to WyoTech. Some memories in that town. Btw, then 3985 Challenger locomotive is no longer in Cheyenne with the UP. It was donated and moved last year along with some other pieces of equipment including the DDA40X 6936 to the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America in Silvis IL. Only the 4014, 844 and 838 (parts unit for 844) are at the Cheyenne Steam Shops now.
I was taught to hit those chains with your bar after you pull that binder. Sometimes that can be enough to make them shift or turn a link over on its side and it pops lose again. But you always do a good job with your load securement. So what do I know? LOL I like your videos by the way. Orwell is looking good.
Nice to hear Martin Palich's steel drivin' history with Republic Steel and others, along with Ryan . Good music from the 8V71 clearing it's throat, might need a gargle to smooth it out , but you already taken big steps to get grasshopper roadworthy . Nice haul of parts and accessories from JR's Truck Parts .
Beautiful morning sun. Crossing the Great Plains in winter or high winds is not fun. But at the other end is some gorgeous country. Can't wait to see what happens next on this trip.
I live 14 miles east of Elko NV. along I-80 MP 314 and love it I've been back in your neck of the woods to many people back there and I hate big city's
My father trucked all his life and he used to go out west a lot. He'd always say he liked trucking out west for the scenery but he'd also say how lonely it felt out there. Sure is different than going east.
The only thing left in Cheyenne is the UP 844 and the Big Boy. The rest of the heritage fleet was sent to Silvis Illinois to a private/public partnership.
I got to tell you. You put together the some of the best videos out there. I really like the way you set your cameras up on the outside of the truck. Be safe out there 💪💪
back in the 90s & early 2000s the fine was 500$ for each wheel position if caught by DOT depending on how many chains each state said you were required to carry. the company trucks had chain bank hangers so we carried chains year round. it was easier to carry them year round instead of trying to get by the office to pick them up.
From my experiences of being in the west, I learned if you don't plan ahead or don't have chains. it will test even the most experienced traveler when it wants to if you don't pay attention to the forecasts or hope you don't have to turn around and go back into the city because of a June snowstorm.
Challenger and 5501 is now in another place. UP only has 4014 and 844. they donated the challenger, the Centennial and the other steam engine to focus on 4014. even 844 has taken a minor back seat as she does not have the PTC gear that 4014 does.

Not good watching Orwell struggling like that when you do cold start look after Orwell and he run for another 10yrs easy.pls don’t do it again mate
Orwell rolled coal both days, No worries.
Yea don't listen to people wanting you to destroy your truck
good work stay safe
THANK YOU STEVE for taking me Along.. nice views.
Orwell sounds much happier today.
Great content Steve! Put on the nicest rims, but leave ol" Rusty on. It's your trademark now.
It doesn't matter what you put on for a load it always looks safe, secure, and professional. Safe travels, driver!!
Rumor has it... Prime still trying to park 🤣🤣🤣
Good job of stacking 5 loads in a 3 load trailer. Safe trip, Driver.
As always SMASHED THE LIKE WITH VIGOUR !
Excellent!
Hey Steve, You're Doing Some Good Work! Stay Safe Man!
As another person has said, don't worry about tha Na Sayers! You do You! But that plow load is bonkers,,,,,lot's of Creativity in that one......Safe Travels!

@ 35:20, New Corvettes from Bowling Green KY. No more train rides from Corvettes, all the way on transports.
Oh Gretta.
I loved coming and going west. Drive, sleep, drive, sleep, maximize my day I would start my day getting up at 5:am eastern. Being out west made it easier to find a place to park at the end of the days driving. Thumbs up 👍
Nice Job
13:15 white Volvo dry van trailer going opposite way, THATS ME... I hollered at ya, but didn't hear anything.
Sometimes ya just gotta give a creative honk and then keep on truckin'
Looking good with that black smoke going
Incredible chooching once you hit the freeway in Wyoming. Just as a warming-up diesel should!
Lived in Green River for ten years. Like Wyoming. Miss it. Backpacked the Wind River Range just out of Pinedale where your first stop was.
Drilled oil/gas wells in the late 70's. Rawlins/Rock Springs/Evanston. No regrets as it was some prime landscapes out there. Always look forward to returning any chance I get.
Orwell running on the old west 😍
Yep, Orwell fired up nice, easy, and fast with the Green APU keeping the engine warm and the batteries at maximum charge. Don't go doing any more of those cold starts.
I smashed that "Like" button like you would not believe! I smashed it so hard that there in now a hole in my monitor.
I thought it took a little life out the starter yesterday.. but the CPU will extend it .. they're expensive lol
Those partials loads can pay well keep on truckin ,
I agree with the last person. No cold-start needed.
Love seeing the down and dirty details. Not just the steering wheel.
That was some coal you rolled! Be safe and stay warm.
Steve good job❤❤❤
that is a nice truckstop i stop there sometimes too

Stunning countryside with the lovely sun behind you .carl 🇬🇧
Finally some open road... Stand on it with both feet !
I miss stopping at Kwik trip in Brooklyn
The challenger is gone from the UP, it was donated with the centenial and other stuff to a museum last year;
There is a challenger and a centennial in north platte
Yeah, I missed that.

I miss trucking
I made a lot of trips across 80 during good weather and bad. Good weather, run about 85 across there.
I have not seen Wyoming but have missed some videos.
We got a lot of black coil yesterday. Great work on the loid placement on the trailer. God-bless and safe travels
Love the videos of the beautiful state of Wyoming, keep doing what you are doing , be careful and safe out there, Mike from Mississippi.
I’m definitely jealous of your big trip out west. I was out there a year ago end of January 2023. Want to go again so bad.

It's windy. And cold and hot. But it's always beautiful. Based in Cheyenne currently
HAHA Orwell did grumble a little bit yesterday on the cold start
You mentioned union pacific big boy And the challenger 3985 big boy 4014 And also the 484. No 844
I loved running flatbed, you could see over the whole trailer when backing into a slot.
I have been to that Q STAR very large store. 😊
Beautiful scenery

Take Orwell to the Grand Canyon after Flagstaff
Thanx for the ride
UP steam program has the Big Boy (4014) and the 844 (never retired 4-8-4). The Challenger (3985) has been passed to another organization.
G'morning and safe travels!
Love your cab over, awesome tractors.
That is a pre-trip inspection you should do before driving. 🙂
I live 14 miles east of Elko NV. along I-80 MP 314 and love it I've been back in your neck of the woods to many people back there and I hate big city's
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Steve.
My 99 flb started on fire out there at 252mm eb. Was just over 1 year old. 40:26
Couple of years ago Union Pacific's Big Boy 4014 came through Mcalester Oklahoma were I live. It was awesome.
I use to love that Kwik Trip in What Cheer/Brooklyn Iowa, they had the best Turkey Sandwiches, that’s the one with the mashed potatoes and gravy!😊
My Grandfather worked at the round house 30 plus years till he retired in1975,then they moved the round house and all the cranes to Northplatt NE😊
Best wishes from Saskatchewan Canada.

Lol ..I guess you know where you are ..a couple minutes later you talked about both engines ...
Hey Steve , hows it going , you like trains you need to visit the Henry Ford museum and greenfield village in dearborn MI you wont be disappointed
My father trucked all his life and he used to go out west a lot. He'd always say he liked trucking out west for the scenery but he'd also say how lonely it felt out there. Sure is different than going east.
Good truck drivers make sure their tied own straps are secured. 🙂

Snows a'comn brother. Be care out here in our neck of the woods.

Hi Steve they say a Wyoming wind sock is a anvil on a chain

Nice weather across Nebraska
Man, I live in grand junction.. would've been neat to see Orwell rolling thru town , safe travels man 🤘
Very good video thanks for sharing
Great video great view
That high altitude and thin air makes them old diesels roll coal about every time you shift.
From my experiences of being in the west, I learned if you don't plan ahead or don't have chains. it will test even the most experienced traveler when it wants to if you don't pay attention to the forecasts or hope you don't have to turn around and go back into the city because of a June snowstorm.
There's two of the Galloping Goose' at the Durango and Silverton train in Durango

I was hoping that they would rebuild Challenger once they had the Big Boy finished. Would have been great to see the two of them running together.
I think its still possible! make one heck of a train thats for sure! @@comput3rman77
The union Pacific 844 is there it's the only steam locomotive that never retired
Good money making LTL load
Plus, you get one lap of western America
Keep safe Driver
Good evening brother
huge difference the APU makes.
